Friday 12-30 New Year's Eve Dance & Holiday Pie

Just having fun

We had an awesome day of having fun.

Larry continued working on the Queen pinball game and he downloaded a new game called Shrek and got it to work. He played both games a few times. Later in the afternoon I played a few games of pinball. We are loving playing pinball.

I played the Daily Challenges of Solitaire and Mahjong. The event today was Event: Hard Road Mini of 5 games. It took me 1 hour, 24 minutes and 58 seconds to complete, which put me in 20th place in my group. I played Angry Birds. I did a few games of Sudoku.

After playing games I did a little reading.

Late afternoon I was relaxing with a book and Larry was working on the pinball machine when the neighbor's kids, Keileigh and Connor came by to wish us a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year with a pecan pie. The pie was a Brazos Bottom Pecan Pie and it comes in a gorgeous wooden box. It is delicious. While they were here I asked them if they wanted to play some pinball. Keileigh is 15 and Connor is 11 and they didn't know what a pinball machine was. They had never seen one. Larry started Shrek and explained how to play the game. They both enjoyed playing the game and were very impressed.

Brazos Bottom Pecan Pie

In the evening I attended Ett McAtee's Weekly A2/C1 dance at 6:30 for an hour and fifteen minutes. It was her New Years Eve dance. She had four people dancing in her basement at the same time as she called the dance in the basement. She called four tips of A2 and one tip of C1 with 24 participants. I had a super time.

While I danced Larry played with some more slot machine software.

Yesterday, I mentioned Larry had to reload the data for our dvds on the Fire TV. He checked out the reload and it came out perfect and we have plenty of memory. He found out that the program we use for the dvds, NOVA has changed to a new company for their data. The new companies pictures are noticeable sharper and brighter and they have terrific information.

After the dance we watched the first movie of Shrek from our dvds. When Larry went to bed I watched Wonder Woman. I watched an episode of Rockford Files I ended up doing 27,000 steps, which put me in 2nd place in my group.

Thursday 12-29 Running Errands & Having Fun

We started the day out by doing some errands.

The license plate tags are due on the Minnie in February, Texas allows you to renew them 90 days in advance so we stopped at the storage center to take the Minnie in for its yearly inspection. We stopped by Valvoline Instant Oil Change to get it inspected. It was quick and easy. The lady who helped us was friendly and fast. Then we started the generator and went back to the storage center to put it back in storage. Larry went online and submitted the renewal.

Next stop was The Home Depot because Larry needed a stronger catch to hold the door closed in the back of the pinball machine. He also needed a couple more power strips.

The last stop was Walmart to do our weekly grocery shopping.

Grocery shopping

We spent the rest of the day relaxing.

Larry installed two more pinball games, James Bond 60th Anniversary and Queen. The first one was probably the easiest install he has done, the second one installed easy but you could not hear the music, it took him a couple of hours to figure it out. After getting it to work we played those and other games. We are now up to 15 games, the problem with having lots of games is you have too many choices. To get really good you need to practice and play a game a lot, with so many available you tend to move from one to another. They are all really good. For Larry the entire endeavor has not been about actually playing the games, it has been more about the process of building and getting everything working. While installing and getting the games working can be frustrating Larry sees it as a challenge and enjoys the process. Without support from internet sites this process would be impossible.

I did the Daily Challenges of Solitaire and Mahjong and event. Today the event was Event: Medium Mayhem of 27 games. It took me 1 hour, 15 minutes and 54 seconds, which put me in 15th place in my group. I played Angry Birds. I also read a little bit.

In the evening we watched a movie on Amazon called July Rising. It was about a sixteen years old girl who inherits her grandfather's orchard. She had to navigate her future. While the movie was fairly good it didn't really end, just left you hanging and wondering. Then we watched an episode of Death In Paradise.

After Larry went to bed I started watching Wonder Woman but it crashed. I had to get Larry out of bed to see what was going on. The other day our Fire TV told us we were running out of memory so he removed some data. He's not sure if he had removed our dvd data so he reloaded the data. We have a lot of dvds, it was going to take awhile to do. He went back to bed and I started watching the 2nd season of Rockford Files.

Watching Television

I ended up doing 27,000 steps today, which put me in 2nd place in my group.

Wednesday 12-28 Dance Day & Playing Games

Just another Wednesday of fun

We had a great day of having fun.

I attended three virtual square dances. First was Di Green and Terry McCann's Weekly Plus at 10:00 for an hour. Di and Terry took turns calling five tips with 16 participants. I had a great time dancing to Di and Terry and with friends.

Second was Ett McAtee's Weekly C1 at 1:00 for an hour. She called four tips with 21 participants. This week she worked on the finish concepts of moves. She cued us through the moves more than usual because they were hard to see with phantoms. I danced with a some people that I hadn't seen since they went back to in person dancing. I had fun dancing with friends and to Ett.

Third was Dave Eno's Weekly C1/A2 at 6:30 for two hours. This week Dave Hutchinson, Greg Moore and Karen Rabe helped calling the dance. Dave Hutchinson hadn't called virtually since February due to medical problems. He did a great job. The format this week was two C1 tips with 10 participants, four A2 tips with 10 participants and one C1 tip with 10 participants. The two Daves called the C1 tips, the last C1 tip they took turns calling. During the A2 tips Karen and Greg took turns calling the first and third tip together and the two Daves took turns calling the second tip. The fourth tip all four callers took turns calling. It was a lot of fun because each caller had their own style of calling. It was a small group but we had a super time dancing with each other. When we had troubles the callers would repeat the sequence.

Having fun dancing with freinds

While I was dancing Larry continued working on the pinball machine games. Larry played games after making the adjustments to the games and fixing problems. I played pinball for a couple of hours and had a lot of fun.

When I wasn't dancing I played games. I did the Daily Challenges of Solitaire and Mahjong. I did the event, which was Event: Klondike Mini of 10 games. It took me 34 minutes and 19 seconds, which put me in 19th place in my group. Then I played Angry Birds 2 and Angry Birds and Friends.

After the last dance we watched the first episode of the 11th season of Death In Paradise, which was their Christmas episode. Then I finished watching the third season of Jack Ryan on Amazon. Afterwards I finished watching the 1st season of Rockford Files on Freevee. I ended up doing 27,000 steps, which put me in second place in my group.

Tuesday 12-27 Games, Dancing & Pinball

Just having fun

We spent the day just having fun.

We started the day by attending Di Green and Terry McCann's Weekly A2 dance at 10:00 for an hour. Di and Terry usually take turns calling five tips but today Di called all the tips. She called to 15 participants. Larry danced with me. We had a great time dancing with friends.

Larry continued playing with the pinball machine. He loaded a couple of new games and they didn't work correctly. He spent most of the day working on them, he finally gave up on one and was able to get the The Munsters working. You probably remember the sit com in 1965 - 1966. It was about a friendly family of monsters and their misadventures. It starred Fred Gwynne, Al Lewis and Yvonne De Carlo. It was a cute series. I played it  a very times and had fun.

While Larry played with the pinball machine I played games. I did the Daily Challenges of Solitaire and Mahjong and event. The event today was Event: World Tour Mini of 10 games. It took me 42 minutes and 43 seconds, which put me in 20th place in my group. Then I played Angry Birds.

In the evening we watched two more episodes of Three Pines. Then I continued watching the 3rd season of Jack Ryan. Afterwards I watched a couple of episodes of Rockford Files. I ended up doing 28,000 steps, which put me in 1st place in my group.

Monday 12-26 Happy Boxing Day

Happy Boxing Day

Today was Boxing Day. Boxing Day is a holiday celebrated the day after Christmas. It originated in Great Britain, servants got the day off and were given a gift box from their employer. The servants got to go home and give gifts to their family. The gifts are given in a box.

We started the day out by attending Di Green and Terry McCann's Weekly C1 dance at 9:00 for an hour. Di called five tips with 17 participants. Larry danced with me and we had a super time dancing with friends. It was a nice way to celebrate Boxing Day.

Get a partner and dance

Last week Larry spent quite a bit of time messing with slot machine games. He said he was going to drop it, there just are not that many people doing it so there is very little help or development. However, today he was back at it. He had some questions on a group of games and communicated with a knowledgeable person via a Facebook group. He has the games working but is now having difficulty figuring out how to get a menu system to work with them. If he was doing this via a more normal system it would probably be easier but he really wants them to work via the pinball machine setup. I played a couple of the games and it's like you're in a casino. I had fun learning how the games work.

While Larry worked on the slot project I played my games. I did the Daily Challenges of Solitaire and Mahjong and the event, which was Event: Two Game Tango of 20 games (10 Klondike and 10 10 Spider). It took me 2 hours, 44 minutes and 23 seconds, which put me in 20th place in my group. Then I moved on to Angry Birds.

Angry Birds

In the evening we watched another episode of Midsomer Murders. Amazon puts an episode up every Sunday. After Larry went to bed I started watching the 3rd season of Jack Ryan on Amazon. Then I watched a couple of episodes of Rockford Files on Freevee. I ended up doing 28,000 steps, which put me in 2nd place in my group. It a great start for the week.

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas to everyone. We had a super Christmas. The temperature in the morning was in the teens and got in the 40s.

Louise and Alice showed up to celebrate Christmas around 9:00 and stayed until 1:00. Louise brought fudge and oatmeal chocolate cookies. For lunch we had ham, dressing, baked beans, homemade noodles, gravy, three cheese potatoes, relish tray and dinner rolls. Before lunch we snacked on the fudge, cookies, relish tray ( Colby Jack and pepper Jack cheese, sausage, sweet pickles and olives) and deviled eggs. While waiting for lunch Louise and Larry played pinball. Larry explained to Louise how the machine works. She had a great time playing. Alice kept me company in the kitchen. We had a fantastic Christmas celebration.

I made homemade noodles for our Christmas lunch tomorrow. I did my housework.

Doing housework

In the afternoon we went to Round Rock to celebrate Christmas with Louise and Alice. Louise cooked our traditional dinner, chili, cornbread, fudge, cookies and Fritos for the chili. She put a relish tray together with cheese, ham, sweet pickles and pepperoni. Like always I ate too much. After dinner we opened our presents. We got a lot of wonderful gifts. Then we had pecan pie for dessert. The food was delicious. Thank you Louise for the great meal. Thank you Shirley, Barbara and Louise for the wonderful gifts. Thank you Larry for the pinball machine. We had a super celebration.

It's freezing

When Larry woke up at 6:00 it was 11 degrees. It was windy but not as bad as yesterday. The high was 28. We hung around the house and kept warm.

She called four tips of A2 with 16 participants and one tip of C1 with 14 participants. During the C1 tip she worked on Percolate But, which means to substitute a part of the move. She continues working on the C1 moves Loren Smith teaches on his Sunday night dance. I had a great time.

After the dance we watched an episode of Death In Paradise. Then I watched a Christmas movie on Amazon called Naughty or Nice. It was a good movie. It was about an advertising executive who lost her job and she came across Santa's naughty or nice list. It was a drama, comedy and fantasy movie. Afterwards I watched a couple of episodes of Rockford Files. I ended up doing 27,000 steps, which put me in 2nd place in my group.

Thursday 12-22 Cold Front

It's cold

We had a wonderful day. It started out at 42 degrees and by 10:00 pm it had dropped to 15 degrees. By morning it should be 12 degrees. In the afternoon the wind came up. The wind is out of the north with gusts up to 28 mph. Brr, it's cold.

We attended Dayle Hodge's Weekly C1 dance at 11:00 for an hour. He called four two couple tips with 17 participants and one four couple tip with 15 participants. I was struggling with the move Zing I couldn't get it. I told Dayle I had a mental block on the move and he called it in the next tip and I got it. So I celebrated by jumping up and down. Dayle cued us through some of the more difficult moves he called. We had a great time dancing to Dayle and with friends.

We played some pinball.

I did the Daily Challenges of Solitaire and Mahjong. The event today was Event: Experts Only Mini of 5 games. It took me 1 hour, 45 minutes and 16 seconds, which put me in 11th place in my group. I played Angry Bird 2 and Angry Birds and Friends.

In the evening we rented Top Gun: Maverick on Amazon. It's the second Top Gun and we saw it in the theater. It's very good. After Larry went to bed I watched another Christmas movie on Amazon called Christmas Catch. It was a comedy about an undercover cob who falls in love with a suspect. It was good. Then I watched a couple of episodes of Rockford Files. I ended up doing 27,000 steps, which put me in 2nd place in my group.

Wednesday 12-21 Christmas Dances & More

Dancing with friends

We had a cold day. It started at 32 degrees and only got to 48 degrees.

I got up early at 7:30 so we could go to town. First stop was at Walmart to pick up a couple of items I forgot the other day. While we were there we picked up sticky buns for breakfast. Then we went to the UPS Store to pickup our mail. It was surprising that it wasn't busy considering it's four days before Christmas. The last stop was to fill the car with gas.

Doing errands

I attended three Christmas virtual square dances. First was Di Green and Terry McCann's Weekly Plus at 10:00 for an hour. They called five tips with 12 participants. The Di, Terry and the dressers dressed up for Christmas. I had a great time.

Second was Dayle Hodge's Weekly A1/A2 at 11:00 for an hour. He called two A1 tips, two A2 tips and one four couple tip with 10 participants. Larry danced with me and we had a super time. After the dance Dayle took us on a tour of their Christmas decorations in the house.

Third was Dace Eno's Weekly C1/A2 at 6:30 for two hours. Karen Rabe and Greg Moore helped Dave call the A2 tips. The format was two C1 tips with 10 participants, five A2 tips with 11 participants and one C1 tip with 9 participants. Dave Hutchinson attended the dance for a bit to thank us for the get well cards. In between the tips we did a little Trivia. The last A2 tip all three callers took turns calling. Dave called the C1 tips. I had a fun time.

While I danced Larry was researching building virtual/electronic slot machines. These are not very popular, especially in the US, they are a bit more popular in the UK where slot machines are called Fruit Machines, supposedly because the original machine tended to have fruits on the reels. You would win by lining up cherries, lemons and other fruits. Today he temporarily installed a couple of slot machine games on the pinball machine and we had fun playing the slots. They look, work and sound like real slot machines in a casino. Of course with our setup I had to play using a keyboard. Not sure where he will go with this, simply exploring.

I did the Daily Challenges of Solitaire and Mahjong. The event today was Event: World Tour Mini of 10 games. It took me 51 minutes and 17 seconds, which put me in 18th place in my group. I played Angry Birds.

After the last dance we watched an episode of Death In Paradise. Then I watched a Christmas movie on Amazon called When Hope Calls Christmas. Then I watched a couple of episode of Rockford Files. I ended doing 27,000 steps, which put me in 3rd place in my group.

Tuesday 12-20 Di and Terry Christmas Dance & Having Fun

Just having fun

We had a great day of hanging around the house.

We started the day out by attending Di Green and Terry McCann's Weekly A2 dance at 10:00. It was their A2 Christmas dance. They took turns calling five tips with 16 participants. Some of the dancers were dressed up for Christmas and Di and Terry dressed up also. Larry danced with me. We had a super time.

Di Green and Terry McCann's Christmas dance dancers

Larry had posted our pinball machine on a couple of websites and later on Facebook. We got lots of terrific comments and some questions. None of the pinball folks had ever seen a freestanding fold down machine, they thought it was a brilliant idea. Hopefully some others will build one and come up with ideas on how to make it better.

I started reading a book on my Kindle called My Notorious Life: A Novel by Kate Manning. I like the book so far.

I played the Daily Challenges of Solitaire and Mahjong. I did the event, which was Event: Easy Street of 30 games. It took me 59 minutes and 35 seconds, which put me in 15th place in my group. I played Angry Birds.

For dessert the last couple of days we had some new cookies by Betty Crocker called Cinnamon Toast Crunch. They were very good.

In the evening we watched two episodes of Three Pines on Amazon. When Larry went to bed I watched a Christmas movie, that was recommended by Louise. It was called Holiday in Handcuffs. I watched a couple of episodes of Rockford Files. I ended up doing 28,000 steps, which put me in 4th place in my group.

We started the day out by attending Di Green and Terry McCann's Weekly C1 at 9:00 for an hour. It was their Christmas dance so some dancers dressed up for Christmas. I wore a Christmas hat and Di wore a Christmas jacket. She took it off halfway through the dance because she got hot. Larry danced with me. Di called five tips with 17 participants. We had a great time dancing to Di and with friends.

Sunday 12-18 Just Having Fun

Overcast Sunday

It was overcast all day, It looked and felt like a winter day. We woke to the temperature in the mid 20s and got to 55 degrees. There was a breeze out of the north.

We spent the day hanging around the house.

The pinball machine is finished and we are playing it but it will continue to occupy time, not only for playing but also adding games and adding enhancements. Today Larry took a few pictures of the completed machine and posted them along with a short description on a couple of virtual pinball sites that he follows. He is getting some terrific responses on the design and how great a job he did.

The finished pinball machine

Folded up for storage

Ready to play on

I played the Daily Challenges of Solitaire and Mahjong. The event today was Event: Klondike Mini of 5 games. It took me 9 minutes and 52 seconds, which put me in 18th place in my group. I played Angry Birds.

I took a two hour nap. After I woke up we went to town to do our weekly grocery shopping and Christmas dinner shopping. We went to Walmart. It was busy but not too bad.

Before the dance we played some pinball. It is a lot of fun and the sound effects really add to the games.

In the evening I attended Loren Smith's Weekly A2/C1 dance at 7:30 for an hour and a half. The format was three tips of A2 with 11 participants and two tips of C1 Teach and one tip of C1 with 11 participants. During the teach tips Loren worked on the But/Replace/Finished Concepts. I had a super time dancing to Loren and with friends. Loren won't be calling for two weeks because of the holidays.

Saturday 12-17 Getting the Minnie Ready for the Cold

We had another cold day, a low at 6:00 of 42 degrees and it got to 54 degrees. It's suppose to be getting colder.

Larry installed a couple of new pinball games, Guardians of The Galaxy and The Adams Family. You might think this is a simple process but that is not the case. Each game is different and must be setup individually. Some games are not too difficult but others are quite a challenge. All of these games are developed by individuals and while most of them do an amazing job on the game they don't do such an amazing job on documenting the installation and configuration. It took Larry hours to get the games running where he was happy with them. They are both fantastic games with terrific effects and sounds. Lots of fun to play. In the evening Larry once again backed up the pinball machine.

After lunch it warmed up a bit and we went to the storage center to take the Minnie for a ride. They are predicting severely cold weather later this week so we brought it home to drain the water tank and water heater. The padlock on our storage door was getting so corroded that it was difficult to read the numbers to unlock it so Larry brought it along and cleaned it up. After draining the Minnie we took it back to the storage. Once it was back in the stall we plugged in the heaters and the battery charger.

I played my games. I did the Daily Challenges of Solitaire and Mahjong. The event today was Event: Spider Adventure of 20 games. It took me 3 hours, 53 minutes and 48 seconds, which put me in 11th place in my group. I played Angry Birds.

We watched YouTube videos.

In the evening we finished watching  A Private Affair. Then I watched Sleepless in Seattle. It's an old move but it's still good. I started to watch the first season of Rockford Files on Freevee. I ended up doing 26,000 steps, which put me in 2nd place in my group.

Friday 12-16 Pizza Night & Christmas Tree

Celebrate it's Friday

We had another cold day. The low was in the low 30s and didn't get out of the mid 40s.

Keep warm in front of a fire

Larry spent the day finishing up the pinball machine.

I played my games. I did the Daily Challenges of Solitaire and Mahjong. The event today was Event: Medium Mayhem Mini of 5 games. It took me 16 minutes and 1 second, which put me in 18th place in my group. I played Angry Birds.

Playing Angry Birds

After Larry finished the pinball machine we played a bit. It works excellent. You can feel the balls moving through the games and when the flippers hit the ball. You can even feel the vibrations of the game.

We use to go down to the Rio Grande Valley on Christmas day so I didn't decorate the house. Since Covid hit dancing has slowed down in the valley and they don't have a lot of upper level dancing any more. Our favorite caller Randy Doughtery passed away. This is the third season we will miss and we probably won't return. If we did go it would only be for a week and not a month or two.

I have been thinking about decorating for Christmas, this afternoon Larry helped me get the decorations and tree out of the attic. It took me over two hours to decorate it but I'm happy I put the tree up. Merry Christmas.

Our Christmas tree

Santa Claus and a snowman

For dinner we had a pizza.

In the evening I attended Ett McAtee's Weekly A2/C1 dance at 6:30 for an hour and fifteen minutes. Ett asked Loren Smith to cover for her. Loren is a super caller and a lot of fun to dance to. Loren called four tips of A2 with 12 participants and one tip of C1 with 9 participants. We just danced and I had a great time.

After the dance we watched continued watching  A Private Affair. We watched three episodes. Then I watched a Christmas movie called A Christmas Carol starring George C. Scott. After the movie I finished watching the 3rd season of My Life Is Murder. I ended up doing 28,000 steps, which put me in 4th place in my group.
