Tuesday 7-14 Two Virtual Plus Dances

It is hot!!!!

This was the fifth day in a row that it got up to 100 or higher. Today it officially got to 104 degrees in Belton/Temple area. It was windy.

We started the day out by going to the storage center to take the Minnie for its monthly drive. Larry tries to do this once a month when we're not using it to keep the Minnie running correctly. While taking the Minnie for a drive we run the generator.

Taking the Minnie for a ride

We attended two virtual plus dances today. The first dance was at 11:00 with Dayle Hodge. Dayle had 33 participants on Zoom. Some of the participants were single people but the majority were couples so there were more than 33 people dancing. Dayle is a pleasure to dance to because he cues the whole time. He sights calls so he knows when the dancers are having problems. When dancers have problems he will walk us through the move. He explains the move first and then he has the dancers dance the move while he cues it. It's always nice to be able to just dance without stress. We had an outstanding time.

The second plus dance was at 6:30 to 8:00 with Dick Otis and Bill Harrison. We had 44 participants. This was the first time that Dick Otis had done a Zoom dance so there were a few mistakes but that was ok, he still did a great job. Dick and Bill did three tips a piece. We had a super time dancing to Dick and Bill.

In between the dances I did my daily challenges and The Event: Tri Peaks Mini of 10 games. It took me 36 minutes and 20 seconds, which put me in 28th place in my group. We watched YouTube videos and I worked on my puzzle.

After the second dance we watched an episode of Midsomer Murders. I watched a couple of movies on Amazon, Cover with Chocolate and Footloose. Cover with Chocolate was a murder detective movie and was good. It has been years since I watched Footloose and it was still a good movie. I ended up doing 27,000 steps, which put me in first place in my group.

Monday 7-13 Boat Day

Boat Day

We had another hot day. We spent most of the day indoors.

The first thing we did today was go to the lake. We were on the lake by 9:30, we wanted to beat the heat. By the time we got to the lake a little breeze came up. Larry has been nursing a toe nail for over a year to get rid of a fungus that was growing under the nail. When he was putting his foot into the binding of the wake board the nail broke half way down his big toe. The nail hurt and he didn't want to take a chance of an infection so he got back in the boat. I did a wake board set and then we called it a day. After pulling the boat out of the a water we wiped it down. We had a nice time on the lake.

After lunch I worked on my daily challenges and The Event: Two Game Tango Mini, which was 3 games of Spider and 3 games of Pyramid. It took me 18 minutes and 31 seconds, which put me in 23rd place in my group.

Larry called our doctor and the soonest they could get him in was Friday so he went to urgent care. The doctor didn't know what to do, he said they didn't have any tools to trim off the broken nail, he said he could deaden the toe and remove the entire nail but it would hurt and the entire nail did not really need to come off.  He asked Larry what he wanted to do. So the doctor didn't do a thing. When Larry got home he soaked his foot for a half hour to soften the nail. Then he trimmed the nail down as far as he could. There is still quite a bit of the broken nail still attached, not sure what he is going to do. He did get a prescription for an antibiotic.

I worked out on my Wii Fit for a half hour and I took a nap. After my nap we watched YouTube videos.

In the evening we attended Ett's weekly C1 Virtual Workshop/Dance at 6:30. We had 73 participants on the Zoom. This week we did a lot better, I think that was because a couple of folks told her they simply didn't understand what she wanted and she finally walked through those moves.

Later we watched an episode of Midsomer Murders. Then I finished watching Line of Duty, I liked the series a lot. The series was about internal investigators, who investigate bad cops. It went on for four seasons and each season had one bad guy. It had a lot of twist and turns throughout the season. Then I watched an Amazon movie called My Spy, which was about a spy, who had to go undercover to protect a mother and her daughter. It was cute and funny. It's a lot better than the previews. I did 26,000 steps, which put me in second place in my group.

Sunday 7-12 Lawn Mower and Dancing

Laugh and have fun

We had another 100 degree day, it actually got up to 104 at the house. I'm very grateful that we have air condition to keep us cool.

Yesterday, Larry ordered oil for the lawn mower from Walmart. While I was sleeping Larry went to Walmart, the oil was in the automated kiosk. Then he stopped and got gas for the lawn mower. On the way home he stopped at Jack 'n' Jill Donuts to buy breakfast.

By the time he got home I was getting up. After breakfast we went outside and finished putting the mower back together, then Larry filled it with gas and oil. After starting it he had to do the final blead. Then he mowed part of the front yard to make sure the mower worked correctly. When Larry put the mower in gear it took off much quicker than it normally does. Another project well done by Larry.

Before lunch I worked on my daily challenges and The Event: Klondike Mini of 5 games. It took me 9 minutes and 13 seconds, which put me in 11th place in my group.

After lunch we attended Ett's weekly Virtual C Dance at 1:00. This week Ett invited Joachim Ruehenbeck from Germany to call for her. Joachim is a good caller but very difficult. We only danced to three tips because we kept breaking down. We weren't having fun so we logged off. The dance had 87 participants in the Zoom.

After the dance I worked on my puzzle and Larry read a bit. I worked out using my Wii Fit and Gold's Gym for an hour. We watched YouTube videos.

Working Out

In the evening we attended a weekly A2/C1 Virtual Dance with Loren Smith. We had 33 people for the A2 and 30 for the C1 tip. We had a great time. We broke down now and then but Loren cued the whole dance. He called two A2 two couple tips and one A2 full square. The full square was very hard because it was easy to loose the six phantoms. We also did the C1 tip. We had fun dancing to Loren and with the other dancers.

After the dance we watched an episode of Midsomer Murders. Then I started to watch the fourth season of Line of Duty. I ended up doing 22,500 steps, which put me in third place on my group. We had a good day.

Saturday 7-11 Lawn Mower Repair

It's hot!!!!

We had another 100 degree day. It got up to 104 degrees at our house.

We started the day out by working on the lawn mower. We have a Honda lawn mower that was given to us by a friend. We don't know exactly how old it is but it is probably about 20 years old, we have had it for about 13 years. It has been terrific. Lately every once in awhile the transmission does not go into gear correctly and it has been getting more frequent. Honda claims the transmission fluid never needs service but in doing some reading Larry found a number of people who had similar problems to ours and changing the fluid corrected the problem. However, since Honda feels it does not need service they did not design it to be serviced. To change the fluid you have to remove the transmission. We worked on this all morning and still are not done.

Larry had to take the back of the lawn mower completely apart. He started by draining the engine oil and gas. Then we lifted the mower onto our work table and turned it upside down. Larry removed the rear wheels and the height adjusters. Before removing the adjustment pieces Larry took pictures of each wheel to make sure he could put them back together. He had to be careful because the piece are designed to fit the left side or the right side. Then he disconnect the drive shaft. He drained the fluid into a bucket, refilled the transmission and then blead and refilled it again. Now it's ready to be put back together. He also discovered the rear wheel bearing are worn out so he will have to order those. It was getting hot outside so we called it a day.

After lunch I did my daily challenges and The Event: Easy Street Mini of 10 games. It took me 37 minutes and 40 seconds, which put me in 28th place in my group. While I did my computer games Larry read.

We attended a Virtual A2/C1 Square Dance, that was hosted by the Gay Callers Association (GCA). The event schedule was 1:00 to 2:30 Mainstream/Plus and 2:30 to 4:00 A2/C1 Dance. We attended the A2/C1 Dance. The dance alternated A2 and C1 with a different caller each tip. We danced to Kris Jensen, Ett McAtee and Michael Levy. While we were dancing to Michael we started having internet problems, our internet connections would go up and down. We fought the internet for about a half hour before giving up.

For dinner I barbecued pork ribs and they came out good. We streamed our YouTube videos via our Mobley hotspot because our internet was still giving us problems. We danced for an hour to a Johnny Preston two couple A2 tape, we did very well. Then we watched Hildalgo, which was one of our dvds. Then I finished watching the third season of Line of Duty. I did 26,000 steps.

Friday 7-10 100 Degree Day

We hit 100 degrees today.

Trying to keep cool

Last night Larry did our weekly grocery shopping online at Walmart. The order was ready this morning around 7:00 am. I was still sleeping but Larry was awake, he gets up around 6:00. Larry picked up our groceries. This week there were a few substitutes and a couple that they couldn't substitute. It's good business for Walmart when they substitute items because it keeps customers happy. For us when they substitute items it's ok. When you submit your order you can indicate you don't want any substitutions or if you don't like the substitution they will take the item off when you pickup the order.

On the way home Larry stopped at Jack 'n' Jill Donuts. When he got home I was awake so I put the groceries away. Walmart gave us a thank you gift for using online grocery shopping. The gift was a Walmart recycle bag with some goodies: small bag of gummy vitamins, a couple of bottles of flavored water, Hidden Valley Ranch Dip mix and a small container of laundry detergent. This was very nice of Walmart.

Thank You gift from Walmart

After putting the grocery away I did my daily challenges and The Event: Free Cell Mini with 5 Free Cell games. I completed the games in 6 minutes and 59 seconds, which put me in 10th place in my group. Today our points were doubled when we played a Free Cell game. This was a special bonus. Then I worked on my puzzle.

In the afternoon I worked out for an hour using my Wii Fit and Gold's Gym.

After dinner we attended Ett's Friday A2 Dance at 6:00. She had 51 people Zoomed in, She called 5 tips. We did a lot better this week. We made fewer mistakes and didn't get frustrated.

Larry's sister Louise use to play card games at the senior center but it appears it might be a long while before it reopens. The other day Larry found out you could play card games online versus friends you invite or other people who are online, you can even play against the computer. He called Louise to see if he could help her set this up so she could play with her friends. It didn't take too long to figure it out and it worked really well. Not only could Larry and Louise play against each other they could see and talk to each other. Now this is real social distancing, your friends can be anywhere in the world. Very cool. Hopefully Louise can get some of her friends to join in.

While he helped her I worked out for a half hour using Just Dance. We spent the rest of the evening relaxing in front of the television. We started watching the 20th season of Midsomer Murders. I continued watching the third season of Line of Duty. I ended up doing 24,000 steps, which put me in second place in my group.

Thursday 7-9 Working Out and Dancing

Awesome Day

Summer is really here. We got up to 100 degrees. It was too hot to do anything outside so we stayed inside and kept busy.

In the morning I worked on my daily challenges and The Event: World Tour Mini of 7 games. It took me 19 minutes and 8 second, which put me in 30th place in my group. While I did my computer games Larry read.

Today we attended three Virtual Square Dances. The first one was at 11:00 am, it was a C1 dance to Dayle Hodge. This was Dayle's first C1 Virtual Dance so in between each tip dancers gave him points on how the dance could be better. He was gracious for the suggestions. His format was the same as for his plus and A2 dances, two tips of dancing, one tip of workshop on moves dancers asked to work on and the last tip was dancing. Even though we made some mistakes the dance was excellent. After the dance he asked if anyone wanted to stay over to go over a modification of Tea Cup Chain, which is a plus move to work with two couples. We stayed after to help see if the call worked. We went over it a few times. I was confused until the last time and I figured out what I was doing wrong. It works great.

What am I doing wrong?

The second dance was Jeremy Butler's weekly A2/C1 Virtual Dance at 6:00 pm. Jeremy invited Jack Pladdys to help call the dance. Jack called two of the A2 tips and Jeremy called an A2 tip and the C1 tip. Jeremy had 51 participants in the A2 session and 48 in the C1 tip. We had a great time.

The third dance was Loren Smith's weekly Plus Virtual Dance at 8:00 pm. Tonight Loren called three 2 couple Plus tips and a four couple tip. Loren had 33 participants. We danced the whole dance, even the 4 couples tip. This week Loren cued a lot more on the 4 couples tip so people could get through the tip. We had a super time.

In between the three dances I decided to workout with my Wii Fit. I hadn't done this in 88 days I did the Wii Fit for 30 minutes and Just Dance for 30 minutes. It was a great workout.

Working Out

After the last dance I finished watching the second season of Line of Duty and started the third season. I did 26,000 steps, which put me in second place in my group.

Wednesday 7-8 Getting Hotter

Partly Cloudy Day

The temperature got up to 97 degrees and the humidity was 40%.

In the morning I did my daily challenges and The Event: Two Game Tango Mini of 5 games of Klondike and 5 games of Spider. Today Microsoft Solitaire had bonus points on doing The Event. It took me 1 hour, 13 minutes and 38 seconds, which put me in 19 place in my group. While I playing computer games Larry read.

At 11:00 we attended Dayle Hodge's A2 Virtual Dance. He did another outstanding job of calling. He cued the whole dance and walked us through moves we were having problems with. The format was excellent; Dayle called four tips with the third being a workshop on moves dancers wanted to look at. During the dance and at the break times dancers were enjoying talking and laughing with each other. We had an awesome time dancing with friends and new friends.

After the dance we had lunch. Then at 1:00 we attended Ett's C1 Workshop/Dance. After two tips we gave up, we were getting confused and not having fun.

Square Dancing Virtually

We decided to mow the yards. Today the temperature is in the 90's but beginning tomorrow it is suppose to be in the 100's. I mowed the frontyard and the far backyard, it took me about an hour. Then Larry took over with mowing the rest of the backyard. While I was mowing Larry removed the cobwebs, weedeated and blew off the driveway.

Then we went inside and cooled off under the air conditioner.

In the evening we danced A2 with Johnny Preston on tape for an hour and a half. Then we finished the last episode of the 19th season of Midsomer Murders. Then I continued watching the second season of Line of Duty. I ended up doing 25,500 steps, this put me in fourth place in my group.

Tuesday 7-7 Busy Morning

We had a terrific Tuesday

We had overcast skies and a few sprinkles here and there. The temperature didn't get out of the low 80's.

There was a breeze in the morning so after breakfast we decided to go for a walk. We drove to Crossroads Park and walked the path around the park. We were the only ones walking, I guess it was because it was 9:00 am. The breeze kept us cool.

Yesterday, we received a message from a square dancing friend, Char Larson telling us that Dayle Hodge had added a few virtual dances. Tuesdays at 11:00 he was calling a 2-couple square dance for Plus, Wednesdays at 11:00 he was calling a 2-couple square dance for A2 and Thursdays at 11:00 he was calling a 2-couple square dance for C1. So we put the dances on our calendar.

We attended the 11:00 Plus dance this morning. We had 47 people there. Some of our friends (Mary, Beverley and Gary) from Marble Falls and Nancy from New Braunfels were there for the first time. It was great to see them. Dayle did an awesome job of calling. He cued through the entire dance, this helped out a lot. The dancers could keep track of the phantom couple and he cued the move to get everyone in the right place. When the dancers were having problems Dayle walked us through the move. It was a great dance and we had a super time.

The dance was during the time we usually have lunch, but that was ok, we just had lunch after the dance. After eating we went to town to pick up our mail. We had three packages waiting for us. One was a face shield Larry had ordered and a couple of items from Wish.

Face Shield

When we got home I did my daily challenges and The Event: Two Game Tango Mini, which was 3 games of Klondike and 3 games of Tri Peaks. It took me 11 minutes and 40 seconds to complete, which put me in 13th place in my group.

After doing my computer games I worked out using the two programs on Amazon. The first program was Fitnation: Sexy Core Workout. It was the sixth episode. The episode concentrated on your whole body, it had squats and lungs to work on your legs and upper and cross punches to work on your arms. It was for 20 minutes. Matt Titus did the episode and had Mary doing the beginner level and Marian doing the advance level. Some of the episode I did the beginner level and some of it a higher level, but not advanced. It was a good workout. The second program was 21 Day Transformation: At Home Yoga Stretch for 20 minutes. Julia Bognar hosted the program. It was a great workout because I don't stretch like I should.

Having fun working out

In the evening before watching television we squared danced for an hour and a half to an A2 tape by Johnny Preston. Then we watched an episode of Midsomer Murders. Then I finished the first season of Line of Duty and started the second season. I did 28,000 steps.

Monday 7-6 Boating, Workout and Dancing

Working out is good for your heart

We started the day out by boating. We hadn't been to Lake Belton for almost a month, mainly due to the wind. We woke up to overcast skies, it was 80 with a little breeze. We got the boat ready to go to the lake. We put our life jackets and towels in the boat, our water toys and gloves were already in the boat. Then Larry backed the truck up so we could put the boat trailer on the hitch. Now we ready to go. We got to Rogers Park ramp about 9:00, there were a few fishing boat trailers in the parking area. Fishermen like to get out early to beat the heat. When it's cool we don't go until the afternoon. Once we launched the boat Larry parked the trailer and went to the dock to wait for me. I picked Larry up and off down the lake we went. Today we drove to the dam and back. We stopped to look at the waterfall. When we went around the bend we got caught in a little rain, it only lasted a few minutes. The rain wasn't a downpour. We drove into Arrowhead Point cove to check out the homes. There were a few boat trailers in the parking area. We could use this ramp because it's just down the street from the house but Rogers ramp is more protected so it's easier to put the boat on the trailer. When we got almost to Rogers ramp we stopped the boat and got into the water to cool off. We were at the lake about an hour and half. It was a very pleasant morning on the lake.

Waterfall on Lake Belton

After lunch I did my daily challenges and The Event: World Tour Mini of 10 games. The theme for today was Fun Monday so the games in the event and daily challenges the points were doubled. The points don't really mean anything except after a certain amount of points you move up in another level of Solitaire but the games complexity doesn't change. You control that by saying what level of complexity you want. It took me 47 minutes and 11 seconds, which put me in 16th place in my group.

My levels

Then I worked out for a half hour to the fifth episode of Fitnation: Butt, Hips and Thigh Workout. This episode Matt lead and he had two ladies help by doing the exercises at beginner and advanced levels. The workout concentrated on the lower body. By the end I could feel my legs but I enjoyed the workout.

In the evening we attended a C1 Workshop to Ett at 6:30. When we were halfway through we gave up, dancing with Ett can be very confusing. We danced an A2 tape for about a half hour. Then we watched an episode of Midsomer Murders. Then I started watching the first season of Line of Duty. I did 26,000 steps.

Sunday 7-5 Just Another Day

Let's go for a hike

We woke with overcast skies and it was in the low 80's. We decided to go on a hike, not really, it was more of a walk. We drove to Crossroads Park and walked the trail that goes around the baseball fields and tennis courts. We walked for 35 minutes. By the time we got back to the car we were sweaty but we got a little exercise. We only saw one person and he was with his dog. We had a nice walk.

Visiting Crossroads Park in Temple

When we got home I did my daily challenges and The Event: Two Game Tango Mini, 3 games of Free Cell and 3 games of Pyramid. It took me 16 minutes and 54 seconds, which put me in 25th place in my group.

We have been doing virtual square dancing for about a month and are having a good time. When we started Larry setup a camera on the computer so other people could see us, you can do Zoom dancing without a camera but it is nice to see everyone. Due to the location of our camera we appeared dark so Larry installed a program that allows him to adjust the brightness and it looks much better.

Ett had a virtual dance at 1:00, 1 tip of C1, 2 tips of C2 and 1 tip of C3A. We danced the C1 tip and tested the camera settings, it worked good. We did good during the dance.

Afterwards I worked on my puzzle until I couldn't keep my eyes open. Then I took a nap. Larry read. When I woke up we watched YouTube videos.

In the evening we attended Loren Smith's A2/C1 dance. Loren called three A2 tips and one C1 tip. We sat out the third A2 tip because it was a four couple tip. Whenever we dance the four couple tip it's very frustrating and it's not worth it. The C1 tip went very well.

Square dancing virtually

Before and after the dance we watched an episode of Midsomer Murders. Then I finished watching The Expanse. I did 26,000 steps, which put me in third place in my group for the week with 177,195 steps.

Saturday 7-4 Happy Fourth of July

Happy Fourth of July

How did you celebrate your Fourth of July?

Yesterday, the governor announced that everyone had to wear a mask whenever they go to any business and you can't have gatherings of more than 10 people without the approval of your local government. HEB had already announced they were requiring all employees and customers to wear a mask. Larry was excited to hear about these announcements. There were a few things we have wanted from HEB but Larry had not really wanted to go inside the store and we didn't need enough to do an online order from them. Since everyone now had to wear a mask he decided if he went inside early to avoid lots of people he could purchase what we wanted. I got up a bit early and he was out of the store by 8:00.

Shopping at HEB

Afterwards we went across the street to the UPS Store to pick up our mail and a package that was waiting for us but it was closed. We forgot that it was the Fourth of July. Then we went to pick up our groceries at Walmart.

Because of the Coronavirus we hadn't had a donut since February. We knew the drive through was open but we still had been avoiding stopping by. On the way home we stopped at Jack 'n' Jill Donuts and bought a couple of donuts. We were the only ones there.

When we got home I did my daily challenges and Event: Spider Mini of 10 games. Today was a special day it was called Spider Saturday, where when ever you play any Spider games you get double the points. It took me 55 minutes and 19 seconds to complete the event. This put me in 10th place in my group. We watched two episodes of the GizWiz.

At 1:00 we attended a virtual square dance called Take A Peak with Dayle Hodge calling 2 tips of A2 and 2 tips of C1. For the A2 tips we had 131 people and the C1 had 114 people. Dayle did a great job of cueing for the tips, he did cue more for the A2. He is an excellent caller. We did very well. I lost my phantoms now and than and went the wrong way but Dayle would tell us where we needed to be. We had a great time.

After the dance I worked out using the Fitnation program. I did the fourth episode, which was The Metabolic Meltdown. The program I workout with was Matt Titus and Dr. Laura Miranda. They take turns during the workout and they have people working out at different levels. Today I did mainly the lower level. I had a great workout.

For our Fourth of July dinner we had Sister Schubert's dinner rolls and European bacon. After dinner we watched an Amazon movie called Once Is Enough. It was about a thirty-two year old chubby comedian who lost his mother to obesity and didn't want to die that way so he decided to run a hundred mile marathon through the Colorado mountains and lived to joke about it. It was a good documentary. Then we started to watch the 19th season of Midsomer Murders. Afterwards I continued to watch the fourth season of The Expanse. I ended up doing 28,000 steps, which put me in third place with 151,168 steps.

Friday 7-3 Beautiful Hot Day

Bright beautiful flowers in our planter

The high today was 101 degrees. Even though it was hot it was a beautiful day.

Larry asked me if I wanted to go to lake this morning because there was no wind. I told him not really. He decided to fertilize the yard and spray for bugs. I worked on my Solitaire Daily Challenges and Event: Medium Mayhem Mini of 5 games. It took me 13 minutes and 34 seconds, which put me in 17th in my group.

After lunch we attended Denise Carbonell's weekly Virtual Plus Dance. She invited Jeremy Butler to help her call the dance. We had four tips with a singing call, forty people were Zoomed in. Denise called a couple of four couple moves, they were: Relay the Deucey and Teacup Chain, where the men went inside instead of the ladies. Both Jeremy and Denise did an outstanding job. We had a great time.

When we finished the dance I did some housework. Yesterday, I did the laundry. While I cleaned the house Larry read.

Doing chores in the house

We watched the wildlife in the backyard. Three days ago when Larry changed out the bird feed in the feeder, we put the sunflower seeds in a bowl and put it on the porch to see if the squirrel would find it. Sure enough he showed up today. As he ate the seeds he would throw the shells on the porch. It was cool to watch the squirrel eating the sunflower seeds. We decided it was probably a bad idea to attract them too close to the house so when I watered my flowers I moved the bowl under a tree. Then I blew off the porch.

Boy, these sunflower seeds are good

Is there any more?

In the evening we watched an Amazon movie. It wasn't that good because it was a slow moving movie. At 9:30 We attended a Virtual Square Dance with David Mee calling, it was a Plus dance with an A2 tip. David called five tips of Plus and one tip of A2. The dance was for an hour and a half. Kept Larry up past his bed time. There were two round dances in between a couple of the Plus tips. We had a great time. Afterwards I finished watching the third season of The Expanse and started the fourth season. I did 20,000 steps, which put me in third place in my group.

Thursday 7-2 Walking, Mowing and Dancing

Awesome Day

We had an awesome day. The temperature got up to 100 degrees today.

We started the day out by going for a walk on Pepper Creek Trail. We walked for a half hour. It was hot and humid with a breeze. There were trees here and there that kept us cool. When we walked in the open it was hot. During our walk we saw a lot of people walking their dogs, jogging and playing disc golf. We saw a couple of guys trimming trees that were growing over the pads of the  disc golf course. We had a nice walk.

When we got back home I did my daily challenges and The Event: Hard Road Mini of 5 games. It took me 48 minutes and 43 second, which put me in 19th place in my group. I also worked on my puzzle. Larry finished reading a book.

After lunch we mowed the frontyard and backyard. I mowed the front, which took me a little over an hour. It was very hot and humid so I had to take a break. While I mowed Larry weedeated. When I was resting Larry finished mowing the backyard. Once I was rested I finished weedeating. After Larry finished mowing he blew off the lawn mower, driveway and front porch.  It took us an hour and half.

Today we participated in three virtual square dances.

At 11:00 we did a special virtual A2/C1 dance with Dayle Hodge. Dayle wanted to practice the tips he was going to do on Saturday at the Take A Peak Convention. He called A2 the first half hour and C1 the last half hour. The A2 tips had 30 people participating via Zoom, the C1 tips had 29. Dayle did an outstanding job, he cued a lot and this helped the dancers get through the tips. After each tip the dancers gave him some feedback and he was very grateful for it.

Next up was Jeremy Butler's weekly A2/C1 dance. This week the dance was for 40 minutes. He did three A2 tips and one C1 tip. Jeremy called a little faster this week and called more challenging moves so it made it more complex. At times we broke down but we had fun. There were 36 participants.

The third dance was Loren Smith's weekly Plus dance. Loren called three tips, two were two couples tips and the last tip was a full square. We have decided we don't care for the full square tips, it is simply too difficult to keep track of 6 phantoms. We had 28 participants. We had a couple of people from Australia and one person from Japan. We had a good time.

After the dances we danced to Johnny Preston two couple A2 tip on tape. We worked with this tip for a little over a half hour. We had fun.

After square dancing I continued watching The Expanse. I did 26,000 steps, which put me in second place in my group.

Wednesday 7-1 Walking and C1 Virtual Dance

It's summer
Officially summertime started on June 20th. Our summer has been pretty mild, the temperature hasn't gotten out of the 90's. The last couple of weeks we have had a lot of wind.

This morning we went on a walk at Crossroads Park. We walked a little longer. It was humid but there was a wind out of the south so it didn't feel too bad. We didn't even feel the humidity until we got back to the car. We saw a couple of the baseball batting areas being used. As we walked by the church we noticed the daycare center was closed, which was a surprise because they usually have a lot of kids playing in the playground.

When we got home I did my daily challenges and The Event: Two Game Tango, 5 games of Klondike and 5 games of Free Cell. By the time I finished I was in 18th place in my group.

At 1:00 we met virtually with Ett for her Wednesday C1 Dance/Workshop. We had 51 people participating. We successfully completed probably half of the calls. Dancing with Ett is very challenging, she tries to explain moves but many times she does not use the official definitions, this confuses me and is frustrating.

After the dance we changed out the bird feed in the feeder because there was only sunflower seeds left. After replacing the feed we saw a continuous stream of birds, I guess they prefer the fruit and nuts over the sunflower seeds. We put the extra sunflower seeds in a bowl for the squirrel but we haven't seen him yet.

I watered my flowers and worked on my puzzle. Larry read.

Flowers are still blooming

In the evening we watched YouTube videos. We watched a documentary on Amazon called The Conscientious Objector about Desmond Doss life. He was a U.S. medic, who refused to carry a gun and was the first conscientious objector awarded a Medal of Honor. It was a great documentary about Desmond sticking to his religious belief during World War II and becoming a hero. I finished watching the second season of The Expanse and started watching the third season. I did 26,000 steps.

Tuesday 6-30 Last Day of June

Hold on Pooh Bear

We had another windy day. Today was the last day in June what should we do?

We started the day off by going to Belton to walk Nolan Creek Trail. We hadn't done this in a long time. As walked we saw a lot of people walking the trail. By the time we got back to the car we were a little sticky because of the high humidity.

When we got home I did my daily challenges and The Event: Tri Peaks Adventure of 20 games. It took me 1 hour, 3 minutes and 38 seconds, which put me in 7th place in my group.

While I did this Larry worked on the Seeds Program. This month he only chose one item, which was a Moen kitchen faucet. He had planned to install this is the Minnie but we use a water filter that screws onto the end of the faucet and the design of this faucet does not allow that.

After lunch I worked out using Fitnation. I did the third episode which was called Ignite. It was a half hour, it worked your upper and lower body and we did some cardio. We stretched before and after the session. Then I worked on my puzzle the rest of the day. Larry finished reading a book and started another one.

We didn't see much activity at the bird feeder but the squirrel showed up again. He spent some time trying to figure out how to get to the bird feeder. A hummingbird did show up at the yellow hummingbird feeder. The doe and her fawn walked through the backyard.

How can I get to that feeder?

In the evening we watched a documentary on Amazon called Four Seasons Lodge. It was about a lodge in New York, where survivors from the Holocaust meet in the summer to dance, cook, fight and flirt and celebrate their survival. It was a very good documentary. Then I continued watching the second season of The Expanse.

My goal in steps is to do 25,000 steps a day so I could reach my weekly challenge of 175,000 steps. Yesterday, I only did 20,500 steps so today I did 30,500 steps. The total so far this week is 51,000 steps, which puts me in third place.

Monday 6-29 Masks Required - Nope, Just Kidding

Hold on tight

It was very windy all day. We stayed around the house all day.

Today the yellow hummingbird feeder was seeing some activity. Later in the afternoon Larry saw a hummingbird at the yellow feeder and another at the orange feeder. The bird feeder with seeds was also active, we also had a squirrel trying to get to it but so far he has been unsuccessful. He started out eating the sunflower seeds that the birds had dropped onto the porch, then he climbed on the table and looked at the feeder trying to figure out how to get to it. He got off the table and climbed up the railing underneath the feeder. He stood on the hummingbird feeders for awhile trying to figure if he could jump up to it. Then he gave up and left. At dinnertime I threw a bag of shredded lettuce out in the backyard for the deer. After dinner the doe and fawn came back and ate the lettuce. Another doe joined them. After eating they continued the adventure on the empty lot next door.

While hanging around the house I worked on my puzzle, watered the flowers and attended a virtual C1 workshop with Ett at 6:30 pm. I did my daily challenges.

Last week our county judge said that all businesses and customers would have to wear masks starting today. The reason for this was because our county has seen a large growth in coronavirus activity. Today the 5:00 news said the county commissioners have now decided to make masks voluntary but they would strongly recommend wearing masks. So in other words we are back where we were other than the governor has ordered all bars to close.

At 6:30 we attended a C1 Workshop that Ett was giving. We stayed the whole time but it was frustrating. We spent a lot of time broken down. Last week Larry had written her an email asking if she could cue a bit more, she wrote backing saying she would and while she did try she was confusing. Ett had 60 people attend the Zoom call. While sitting out we noticed that there were a lot of people struggling. We'll have to think about attending again or maybe we will drop her and just use the two couple tapes we have.

After the dance we watched a documentary called Sit Stay Rider: The Story of America's Sidecar Dogs, it was about dogs riding in a sidecar of a motorcycle. The owners put goggles on the dogs when they're riding in the sidecar. It was cute documentary. Then I continued watching The Expanse. I did 20,500 steps.

Sunday 6-28 Day of Virtual Dancing

Keeping Skills Up

We had another windy day. At times the wind was really strong.

In the morning I did my daily challenges and Event: Two Game Tango, 10 Free Cell games and 10 Pyramid games. It took me 2 hours, 9 minutes and 47 seconds to complete. When I finished I was in 14th place in my group. I probably will drop considering I finished by noon and the challenge lasts for 24 hours, it started at 6:00 am central time.

After playing computer games I worked on my puzzle. Larry wrote a review on a book he finished reading and started another book.

Today we attended three virtual square dancing events. The first event was a C1/C2 dance to Ett. She called three tips of C1 and then three tips of C2. This was great because we don't know C2. Our session of the dance was a half hour. The first tip was easier than the other two. Ett did better in cuing so that made it less frustrating.

The second event was a festival. Mike Dusoe and Denise Carbonell invited other callers and round dance cuers to attend. The festival started at 1:00 pm our time and was over at 3:30. The mainstream/round dance had 212 participants logged into Zoom. We danced plus for an hour and a half. During the plus dance we had 208 on Zoom and another 40 on YouTube. We danced 6 tips to 6 different callers around the United States and other callers were logged into Zoom to see how the festival was going. We danced to: Denise Carbonell, Mike Dusoe, Ted Lizotte, Darren Gallina, Tom Miller and Dean Singleton. Larry danced each tip but the singing call he sat down, I danced the singing call by myself. We had a great time.

The third event was Loren Smith's weekly A2/C1. We had 32 people participate in A2 and 31 for the C1 tip. Loren did three A2 tips, the first two were two couples and we did very well. The third tip was a full square, we didn't do too well. The C1 tip we did fine. We had a great time.

In between the second event and the third event we watched YouTube videos. I watered my flowers. They're still growing, when a few die another few grow. The ones that are really growing were the seeds that we received as a gift from Alexa.

After the third event we finished watching Alpha House. Then I finished watching Agatha Christie Partner in Crime, which was three episodes. Then I started to watch the second season of The Expanse. I did 26,000 steps, which put me in third place in my group for the week with 178,070.

Saturday 6-27 Just Another Saturday

Just chilling out

It was windy all day. The temperature was in the mid 90's.

We stayed around the house and kept cool under the air conditioner. Larry read and I worked on my puzzle. I did my daily challenges and The Event: Two Game Tango Mini of 5 Free Cell games and 5 Tri Peaks games. It took me 27 minutes and 57 seconds, which put me in 36th place in my group.

We watched an episode of GizWiz and the YouTube videos we follow. I worked on my puzzle.

In the evening we danced C1 to Johnny Preston on tape for an hour and a half. Then we watched an Amazon movie called Blue Jasmine. It was about a New York socialite who is down on her luck and in denial, she goes to San Fransisco to visit her sister to find herself. It was directed by Woody Allen, not a great movie and really didn't have an ending. Then we watched an episode of Alpha House. Next I started a series on Acorn called Agatha Christie Partner in Crimes. It's a series about a husband and wife who get involved in solving crimes. I watched three episodes. It's a good series. I did 22,000 steps, which put me in third place in my group.

Friday 6-26 Cardio Workout with Julia Bognar

Cardio Workout

In the morning we went back to Crossroads Park. We parked next to the baseball fields. A few of the batting cages were being used by families. One had a mother pitching to one of her girls while the other girl was warming up with a bat behind the net. The batter was wearing a helmet. Another cage was being used by a father and son. Our walk was the same trail as Wednesday except we walked the opposite direction. While walking we saw a couple of ladies walking their dog. When we got back to the playground there was another family using a batting cage, the family appeared to be a mother, father and two girls.

It's amazing, no matter how many trails a city puts in there is always someone using them. Today there was a breeze out of the south so the walk was pleasant. I was sticky when we got back to the car but not drenched with sweat. We walked 35 minutes for 1.7 miles.

After lunch I used another cardio workout program that Larry downloaded from Amazon. The program is called 21 Day Transformation and Julia Bognar hosts it. The program has ten episodes and each episode is for each day. I'm not doing the 21 days challenge but I did do the first two episodes. Each episode was 20 minutes long. The first episode was called Home Cardio for Fat Loss, it concentrated on burning fat. There was a lot of kicking and punching. The second episode was called Ultimate No Equipment Butt Lifting & Ab Toning Workout. There was a lot of leg lifts, twisting from side to side, shuffling from side to side, lunges and squats. The last five minutes was on the floor for a few ab exercises. Some of the exercises on both episodes I couldn't do because I am out of shape and not limber enough but I still kept moving the full 20 minutes. I think I'm going to be sore tomorrow.

I worked on my daily challenges and The Event: Free Cell Adventure of 20 games. It took me 2 hours, 27 minutes and 32 seconds. When I finished I was in 10th place in my group but I probably will fall a few spots by the end of the challenge.

Today Larry did our online grocery shopping at Walmart. We usually go to the Walmart in Belton because it's convenient to The UPS Store and we pick up our mail. There were no openings in Belton today so we sent our order to the Walmart in Temple. That was ok, we will pick up our mail next week. The Temple store is actually a bit closer than the Belton store.

Weekly Grocery Shopping

At 6:00 we attended an A2 Virtual Square Dance with Ett hosting it. There were 56 people participating in the virtual dance. After the second tip we were getting frustrated so we stopped, dancing with phantoms is very difficult and Ett was not cuing at all. Most callers help by cuing calls where you are in unusual positions or if they see folks having problems. After the dance Larry sent Ett an email asking her if she could cue a bit more.

We continued dancing but used the A2 two couple tapes with Johnny Preston for 45 minutes. Then we tried a C1 tip with Lee Kopman, after 15 minutes we gave up.

After square dancing we watched a few episodes of Alpha House. Then I watched a 1993 series called The Fragile Heart on Acorn. It was a drama about a cardiac surgeon, who's ambition and self confidence takes him through events that shakes his personal and professional life. It was an ok drama. I did 26,000 steps.
