Sunday 11-29 Awesome Day

Awesome day

We had a damp cold day. It didn't get out of the low 50's. But it still was an awesome day.

Larry started the day out by making me a couple of mini Gnomes. Then he made the two mini Nutcrackers and two mini Gnomes into ornaments. The ornaments are very cute.

The Christmas ornaments Larry made for me

While Larry worked on ornaments I played Solitaire games. I did the Daily Challenges and Event: Two Game Tango Mini of 10 games (5 Klondikes and 5 Spiders). It took me 1 hour, 47 minutes and 15 seconds, which put me in 36th place in my group.

We attended two virtual dances. The first one was Doren McBroom's weekly DBD at 1:30 for an hour and a half. We had 25 participants. Doren called six tips and walked us through a few moves: Reverse Wheel Around, Wheel Around, Dixie Style to a Wave and Reverse Dixie Style to a Wave. Doren put us in position where we were in both the Beau and Belle position. We had a fun time.

The second one was Loren Smith's weekly A2/C1 dance at 7:30 for an hour and fifteen minutes. This week Loren invited Ett McAtee to join him in calling the dance. During the A2 tips we had 46 participants and the C1 tips we had 43 participants. Loren and Ett called two A2 tips and one C1 tip. The third and fourth tips were workshop tips where we worked on 4 couples and all 8 moves. We had a very pleasant evening of dancing to Loren and Ett.

In between the dances we watched an episode of GizWiz and YouTube videos. After the last dance we watched an episode of The Yorkshire Vet. Then I finished watching The Mentalist and started to watch the Miss Fisher Mysteries for the second time. After reading the book I was curious to see if the series was like the book. I found out it was very close to the novel. I ended up doing 24,500 steps, which put me in 5th place in my group with 189,579 steps for the week.

Saturday 11-28 Laid Back Day

Laid back day

It was another overcast day, by mid afternoon the rain came in. It didn't down pour but it was very steady. It didn't get out of the 50's.

Larry made Belgium waffles for breakfast.

I spent the day playing Solitaire games and Sudoku games. Today was called Spider Saturday, which means that every spider game you solved your points are doubled. I played the Daily Challenges and the Event: Spider Mini of 5 games, it took me 19 minutes and 49 seconds, which put me in 28th place in my group.

When Louise came over for Thanksgiving we gave her some Christmas ornaments, a mini Nutcracker, mini frog, mini angels, mini Christmas Gnome and few other items he made with the Cameo. I asked him if he would make me a mini Nutcracker and a mini Gnome. Today he worked on the Nutcrackers.

We watched YouTube videos. In the evening we watched a movie off of Amazon called Sometimes Always Never. It was about a father and son, who go on a road trip to find the older son. It was a good movie. Then we watched an episode of The Yorkshire Vet. When Larry went to bed I continued watching The Mentalist. I ended up doing 28,500 steps, which put me in 4th place with 165,068.

Friday 11-27 Decorating for Christmas

Overcast Day

It was an overcast day with a few sprinkles. The high for the day was in the morning with the temperature in the low 60's. During the afternoon the temperature started to drop into the high 50's.

For the last five years we have left on Christmas day to go to the Rio Grande Valley so I haven't being decorating for Christmas. This year due to the Coronavirus we're going to stay at home. Today, I put up our Christmas tree and decorated it. It took me about three hours. Some of the decorations on the tree we purchased 40 years ago, time sure flies.

Getting ready for Christmas

We dance six days a week in the living room and that's where I put up the tree. I didn't realize how big the tree was. It took took up part of the area we use for dancing so when we dance we have to be careful that we didn't knock the tree over.

We attended two virtual dances. The first was Di Green's weekly C1 at 2:00 for an hour and a half. We had 43 participants. Di workshopped Interrupt Concept. This concept is very hard because you have to remember where to put the interruption and to finish the move. The dance was very complex but Di did a good job of cueing and walking us through the moves.

The second one was Ett McAtee's weekly A2/C1 dance at 6:00 for an hour and a half. We attended the A2 session, it was four tips with 33 participants. We had a fun time.

Before Di's dance I played my Solitaire games. The Daily Challenges and Event: Two Game Tango Mini of 6 games (3 Free Cell and 3 Tri Peaks). It took me 12 minutes and 37 seconds to complete, which put me in 13th place in my group.

After Ett's dance we watched an Amazon movie called Uncle Frank, it was about a gay man in the 70's who confronts his past. It was a good movie. Then we watched an episode of The Yorkshire Vet. After Larry went to bed I finished watching the sixth season of The Mentalist and started watching the seventh and final season. I ended up doing 26,500 steps, which put me in 3rd place in my group.

THursday 11-26 Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving!! I hope everyone had a safe day.

Larry started the day out by working on a computer project. We have an old laptop computer that his been boxed up and he has a project in mind to use it on. It has not been turned on in about 18 months so he had to let it charge. Once it was charged and booted up Microsoft started downloading updates. It took all day and was still doing the updates by the time he went to bed.

I played my Solitaire games. I did the Daily Challenges and Event: Pyramid Mini of 10 games. It took me 25 minutes and 25 seconds, which put me in 18th place in my group.

This was the first Thanksgiving we had at home in three years. Last year and the year before our friends Rene and Robert had invited us to their place to celebrate. This year we invited Louise out for lunch. She showed up with Alice at 10:30. She brought an apple pie, brownies and sugar cookies. Before lunch we visited a bit and snacked on deviled eggs, relish tray with sweet pickles, olives, cheese and salami along with Louise's brownies and sugar cookies. For lunch we had honey spiral ham, turkey flavor dressing, homemade egg noodles, gravy and rolls. We had a great Thanksgiving with Louise and Alice.

After Louise left I cleaned things up while Larry worked on painting some wire molding. Later on we watched YouTube videos. In the evening we watched three episodes of Warehouse 13. Then I continued watching the fifth season of The Mentalist. I ended up doing 26,500 steps, which put me in third place in my group with 110,061 steps.

Wednesday 11-25 Busy Day

Thanksgiving preparation

We had a busy day. It started out with a little drizzle but by the afternoon the sun came out. The temperature didn't get out of the 60's.

While I was sleeping Larry went to The UPS Store to pick up a package from his Aunt Barbara, it was Christmas gifts, she also sent chocolates and caramel corn.

Larry spent some of the morning organizing his paper crafting area.

Whenever we square dance Larry likes to use shoes with leather soles because they will slide across the floor. This afternoon he added leather to a pair of shoes he seldom wears and he will start using them for dancing.

In the morning I played my Solitaire games. I did the Daily Challenges and the Event: Two Game Tango Mini of (3 Klondike and 3 Spider). It took me 18 minutes and 38 seconds to complete, which put me in 25th place in my group.

We attended two virtual dances. The first one was Dayle Hodge's weekly A2 at 11:00 for an hour. We had 30 participants. The third tip was a workshop, where Dayle worked on Peel and Trail and Trail and Peel. We had a great time.

The second one was Doren McBroom's weekly C1 for an hour and a half. This week Doren invited Betsy Gotta to help him call. Betsy and Doren called two tips a piece and the fifth tip they called together. The dance was very challenging and I got frustrated because of lack of cueing.

In between the dances I did my weekly housework and laundry. Tomorrow Larry's sister will be coming over for Thanksgiving, she loves homemade noodles so this afternoon I made egg noodles and deviled eggs.

Doing housework

After the last dance we watched a couple episodes of Warehouse 13. Then I watched a few episodes of The Mentalist. I ended up doing 27,000 steps, which put me in 3rd place in my group with 83,034 steps.

Tuesday 11-24 Day of Dancing

A rain front

The day started out with a little rain. The clouds went away in the afternoon. Another front came back in at 11:00 in the evening. We had a super day.

Larry started the day out by going to town to do a couple of errands. First up was taking a few things back to The Home Depot including the new security camera that caused all kinds of problems with our network. Then he stopped by the UPS Store to pick up a couple of packages from his mom. They included Christmas gifts and some goodies (cookies, fudge and peanut brittle). Then he went to Walmart to pick up a couple of things.

I started the day out by playing Solitaire games. I did the Daily Challenges and Event: Two Game Tango (10 games of Pyramid and 10 games of Tri Peaks). It took me 1 hour, 53 minutes and 6 seconds, which put me in 21st place in my group.

We attended three virtual square dances. The first was Dayle Hodge's weekly Plus dance at 11:00 for an hour. We had 31 participants. Dayle did an excellent job of calling.

The second dance was Di Green's weekly A1/A2 dance at 1:30 for two hours. During the A1 session we had 41 participants and the A2 session we had 43 participants. Each session Di and Terry called 5 tips. During the A2 session they walked through All 8 and All 4 couples moves. I danced the A1 session by myself. The dance was a lot a fun. Di and Terry did a super job of calling.

The third dance was Don Moger's weekly A2 dance at 6:00 for an hour and a half. We had 54 participants. We had a great time dancing to Don.

In between the dances Larry finished making a Christmas Snow Globe. It came out very cute. I did some Sudoku games. I watched our new neighbor lot starting to be cleared for their house. We snacked on the goodies that Larry's mom sent us and they were delicious.

Monday 11-23 Another Home Project

Squirrel enjoying himself

We had a super day. It was very pleasant with the temperatures in the low 60's and cloud covering.

Larry spent the day working on our internet speed problem. When he installed the new wireless security camera he noticed it caused a problem with other wireless devices. In investigating this he discovered one of our wireless networks was running very slowly. He removed our current router and replaced it with an older backup, this got everything back to working but he still was not happy with the wireless network that the security cameras are on. He decided to split some of them onto a mini-router that would be located on the ceiling in the garage. To do this he had to get an ethernet cable from our current router to the garage. That meant stringing a new cable through the attic. This took some time. This has helped the two cameras that are farthest away from the original router. In all of his testing he also discovered that the new wireless camera is continuing to cause problems with the wireless network so it will be going back. The backup router is quite old and not as fast as the newer one so he will still need to decide what the longer term plan is but at least everything is working.

I did my Solitaire games. I did the Daily Challenges and Event: World Tour Mini of 10 games. It took me 41 minutes and 38 seconds to solve, which put me in 18th place in my group. Then I did some Sudoku games.

We attended two virtual square dances. The first was Joachim Ruehenbeck A1/A2 dance at 12:30 for two hours in between the session there was a half hour break. I attended the A1 session by myself because Larry was working on the network stuff. During the A1 session we had 36 participants and the A2 session had 35 participants. Joachim called five A1 tips and four A2 tips. We had a super time.

The second dance was Ken Burke's weekly A2 dance at 5:30 for an hour. We had 11 participants. Ken called three tips. It was an ok dance.

After the dance we watched the last two episodes of Roadkill on KLRU. It was a good mini series about Peter Laurence (Hugh Laurie), a self-made forceful politician in the UK. Then we watched an episode of The Yorkshire Vet. Then I continued watching the sixth season of The Mentalist. I ended up doing 28,000 steps, which put me in fifth place in my group.

Sunday 11-22 Home Project

Home Project

It was a pleasant day with cloud covering, which kept it cool. The high today was in the low 70's.

Larry wants to move one of our security/wildlife cameras to the back porch so he spent the day installing an electrical outlet. He started by installing an electrical box on the ceiling of the porch. Then he connected a wire to the plug and fed the wire to an existing outlet and connected the wire to that outlet. Once the wires were connected to the two electrical outlets he covered the wire with a white tube. He still needs to mount the tube.

I played my Solitaire games. I did the Daily Challenges and Event: Klondike Mini of 5 games. It took me 9 minutes and 1 second to complete, which put me in 13th place in my group. I also played a few games of Sudoku.

While we worked on the home project I watered my flowers. It still amazes me that I still have flowers growing in November.

Flowers still growing in November

We attended two virtual dances. The first was Doren McBroom's weekly Plus DBD dance at 1:30 for an hour and a half. We had 19 participants. Our friends Renee and Robert attended the dance. This was their very first virtual dance. They did very well. After the dance Larry e-mailed Renee and gave her some pointers on virtual dancing. We had a great time.

The second dance was Loren Smith's weekly A2/C1 dance at 7:30 for an hour and a half. This evening Loren invited Ray Brendzy to attend and help him call the dance. During the A2 session there were 33 participants and the C1 session had 28 participants. We danced 4 A2 tips, 1 C1 teach tip and 2 C1 tips. The third A2 tip was a full square tip. Loren called the first and third A2 tip and the last C1 tip. Ray called the other 2 A2 tips, the teach tip and a C1 tip. During the teach tip Ray went over Weave, Box Recycle and Ah So. We had an outstanding evening of dancing to Loren and Ray.

After the last dance we watched an episode of The Yorkshire Vet. Then I finished watching the fifth season of The Mentalist and started the sixth season. I ended up doing 21,000 steps, which was about 2,000 steps shy of my daily goal. I ended up doing 178,156 steps for the week and ended up in 4th place in my group.

Don and Ross called a tip by themselves and the third tip they called together. We danced with dancers we usually don't dance with because they dance higher levels than we do. We had a great time.

Larry discovered one of the wireless bands on our internet wasn't working correctly. He spent the afternoon working to get the WiFi to work correctly. He ended up putting in his backup router and one by one he brought every device back online. The speed is back to where it should be.

While Larry was working on the technology problem I took a nap. When I woke up I finished reading Miss Fisher first novel.

We had a great day. We spent the day having fun.

I started the day off by playing my Solitaire games. I did the Daily Challenges and the Event: Easy Street of 30 games. It took me 1 hour, 12 minutes and 16 seconds, which put me in 17th place in my group.

While I played my games Larry continued making cards.

We attended three virtual square dances. The first was Dayle Hodge's weekly C1 dance at 11:00 for an hour. We had 34 participants. Today, Dayle had to take a couple of breaks to attend to a home project, he had a repairman replacing his water heater. We danced three tips because we had another dance at 12:30 and we wanted to eat lunch. The three tips we did were challenging and fun. We had a great time.

Wednesday 11-18 Busy Day

Busy Day

We had a busy day of doing this and that.

Larry started the day out by continuing working on making Christmas cards. He finished making a card and decided to modify it bit to make it a fold out card. It came out very cute.

Christmas card

While he worked on making the card I played Solitaire games. I did the Daily Challenges and the Event: World Tour Mini of 10 games. It took me 56 minutes and 33 seconds, which put me in 21st place in my group.

We attended two virtual squares. First was Dayle Hodge's weekly A2 dance at 11:00 for an hour. We had 29 participates. Dayle cued the dance, which helped keeping the dancers in the right position. When the dancers were in the wrong place he explained what formation they should be in and where they should be. We had a very enjoyable dance.

In the afternoon we pulled the boat out of the garage, hooked it up to the water hose and started it up. Since it is stored in the garage and we will be home all winter we are not sure if we will winterize it this year. During the summer a bezel around one of gauges had fallen off, it was only cosmetic and didn't keep the gauge from working. Today Larry removed the dash and the gauge. He has glued the bezel back on and when the glue sets up he can reinstall the gauge.

We had a Sceptre 19" LED TV in the Minnie. A few months ago Larry decided to use it as our monitor for our security cameras. Larry thought it would be nice to have a bigger security monitor so he has been watching Craigslist. Yesterday he found a 23" Element TV in Fort Hood for $25.00, today, we picked it up.  Larry cleaned it up and plugged it in. It works great and the speakers sound super. It didn't come with a remote control so Larry got out an old universal remote control we have and programmed it to work with the television. For what we are using it for we really don't need a remote.

New monitor for our cameras

After the last dance we watched a couple of episodes of Warehouse 13. Then I finished watched the last episode of the fourth season of The Mentalist and started the fifth season. I ended up doing 27,000, which put me 7th place in my group with 78,135 steps.

Saturdat 11-14 Lunch with Louise

Hold on

We had a beautiful sunny day with wind. At times the wind was very strong.

Since the coronavirus hit in March Larry's sister, Louise has been stuck at home. She just leaves the house to go grocery shopping. Before the coronavirus hit Louise use to go to the local Senior Center in Round Rock almost everyday to play cards and workout. It's been very hard on Louise considering she's single. The last time we visited Louise she said she's getting bored. A couple of days ago Larry called and invited her out for lunch.

Today she arrived around 10:00 with her dog, Alice. For lunch I barbecued sausage patties. Last night I made potato salad to go with the patties. Louise made some marshmallow walnut fudge and no bake cookies for dessert. I also baked some Reese's Peanut Butter Cookies for dessert. Louise and Alice were at the house a few hours. We had a very nice visit.

Before Louise showed up I played Solitaire games. I did the Daily Challenges and the Event: Easy Street Mini of five games. It took me 10 minutes and 42 seconds, which put me in 28th place in my group. We watched a couple of episodes of The GizWiz.

After Louise left we watched YouTube videos and read. I finished reading Maggie Sullivan novel Ration Of Lies.

Reading is fun

After dinner we started watching Road Kill on PBS, it is a new series. There were only two episodes, a new one will be added each week. Then we watched two episodes of The Yorkshire Vet.  A couple days ago while we were dancing one of the dancers needed a petticoat to go with an outfit that was purple. I told him I had a few petticoats and I would be thrilled to send him whatever colors he wanted. I shipped him a purple petticoat and a white petticoat via the UPS Store. While there Larry picked up our mail.

We attended two virtual square dances. The first dance was Di Green's weekly C1 dance at 2:00 for an hour and a half. We had 45 participates. Di called six tips, four of them were workshop tips. She worked on Rotary Spin from both positions (outside people and inside people), Alter the Wave and Split calls. All these calls we worked with four couples. Di did an outstanding job of cueing through out the dance. I struggles a bit because I kept going only a quarter instead a half. We had an outstanding afternoon dancing to Di Green.

The second dance was Ett McAtee's weekly A2/C1 dance at 6:30 for an hour and a half. This week Ett invited Jeremy Butler to come and call the dance together. They called four A2 tips and two C1 tips. We had a great time dancing to Ett McAtee and Jeremy Butler.

In between the dances I played my Solitaire games. I did the Daily Challenges and the Event: Free Cell Mini of 10 games. It took me 1 hour and 6 minutes to complete, which put me in 14th place in my group.

On Facebook our friend Sharon said her husband Mike was turning 80. Larry decided to make a card using the Cameo. It is hugh because it has 80 candles. The card is a folding card so it can fit in an envelope. The card came out great.

We watched YouTube videos. After the second dance we watched three episodes of The Yorkshire Vet. I finished watching the third season of The Mentalist and started the fourth season. I ended up doing 27,000 steps, which put me in fourth place in my group.
