Thursday 4-29 Overcast Day

Overcast Day

A front came in last night around 11:00 and is staying around for a little while. Early morning I heard some thunder but I didn't hear hard rain. It rained on and off all day. It got up to 73 degrees with the humidity of 87%. This didn't keep the squirrels and birds away.

I started the day out by doing the Daily Challenges and the Event: Easy Street of 30 games. It took me 1 hour and 42 seconds to complete, which put me in 14th place in my group. I did a few Star Club Solitaire Dark.

The oral surgeon can't see Larry until Monday. He has to eat very slowly, on the one side he has the cracked/broken tooth, any pressure on it causes severe pain, on the other side he has a temporary crown, they worked on it a bit yesterday and now he can eat on that side but he has to be careful or it is also painful. Hopefully the oral surgeon will be able to get the broken tooth removed soon.

After I finished my games I did my weekly housework. Larry worked on another paper project.

Doing housework

We attended three virtual square dances. First was Dayle Hodge's Weekly C1 at 11:00. He called four tips of two couples and one of four couples. We had 24 participants. We have been dancing virtually for about a year and the dancers are doing well, Dayle is putting us in more complex positions, this makes it more challenging, that's ok because Dayle tries to cue us through moves we have problems with. The four couples tip was very hard for me but Dayle helped by tell me where I should be. We have a blue X on the floor to identify the center of the square, the caller can see it and can tell you where you should be. We had a super time dancing to Dayle.

Second was Joachim Ruehenbeck's C1 at 12:30. He had 23 participants and he called five tips. We had a great time dancing to him because he dances with his wife and their backs are to the camera and you know where you should be. It was fun to dance to Joachim.

Third was Jeremy Butler's Weekly A2/C1 at 6:00. Jeremy called four tips of A2 and one tip of C1. We had 13 participants in the A2 session and 9 in C1. We had a great time dancing to Jeremy and with friends.

In between the dances we watched YouTube videos and finished watching Downton Abbey. Then I watched a few episodes of Star Trek: Voyager. I ended up doing 27,700 steps, which put me in 3rd place in my group.

Wednesday 4-28 Dentist and Dancing

We had a busy day of doing this and that.

We started the day out by going to the oral surgeon to finish up my implant with a healing cap. Now I'm scheduled to get the crown process started in the middle of May.

On the way home we stopped by Aldi. We only go there occasionally and we hadn't been since last summer. There were more people there than we remembered seeing previously, apparently their business is growing. They stock brands of products not carried by Walmart or HEB, they are normally a bit less expensive and the quality is good. We stopped today because we were driving by.

We attended two virtual square dances. First was Dayle Hodge's Weekly A2 at 11:00. Dayle had an appointment and didn't plan to be there so he asked Doren McBroom to cover for him. Dale's appointment ended early so he made the dance. Doren and Dayle both called. The format for the dance was four two couples A2 tips and one four couples A2. They both called a tip, they called the last two tips and the four couples tip together. During the two couples tips we had 39 participants and the four couples tip we had 30. We had an outstanding hour of dancing to Doren and Dayle and with friends.

Second was Doren McBroom's Weekly A2/C1 at 6:15. This week Doren invited Ett McAtee to join him in calling the dance. They called four tips in each session. During the A2 session we had 15 participants and C1 we had 16. We had fun dancing to Ett and Doren and with friends.

After Dayle's dance I did the Daily Challenges and the Event: Two Game Tangos Mini of 6 games (3 Free Cell and 3 Pyramid). It took me 12 minutes and 27 seconds, which put me in 4th place in my group. Then I did a few games in the Solitaire Dark, I finished the Klondike games.

Larry finished a couple of paper crafting projects. He hung his Hippie Couple on the wall and he finished his Elegant Egg by adding a pearl ball to the top.

Yesterday while eating dinner Larry heard something crack and he immediately had pain coming from a tooth. Two and a half years ago the tooth had a root canal and crown. They got him in the dentist office today and found that the tooth cracked, it will have to be removed and replaced with an implant.

Larry can't seem to get beyond having problems with his teeth. This year alone he has gotten a crown on an implant, had a crown come off that had to be re-glued, had a tooth removed and he is partway thru getting a crown on another tooth, it has a temporary crown and they are waiting for the permanent.

After Doren's dance we watched an episode of Downton Abbey. After Larry went to bed I watched a few episodes of Star Trek: Voyager. I ended up doing 26,000 steps, which put me in 3rd place in my group.

Tuesday 4-27 Dancing and Having Fun

Fun Day

We had an overcast day with the temperature in the high 70s.

I started the day out by doing the Daily Challenges and the Event: Tri Peaks Mini of 10 games. It took me 30 minutes and 43 seconds, which put me in 23rd place in my group. Today was Tri Peak Tuesday, where every Tri Peak game you solve your points are doubled. I also did a few Tri Peaks and Klondike in the Star Club Solitaire Dark section.

While I played Solitaire games Larry worked on  a paper project.

We attended two virtual square dances. First was Dayle Hodge's Weekly Plus at 11:00. We had 34 participants. Dayle called four two couples Plus tips and a four couples tip. The third tip Dayle worked on Follow Your Neighbor in different positions. We had a great time dancing with friends and Dayle calling.

The second was Di Green and Terry's Weekly A1/A2 at 1:30. This week Di added an extra tip, which was a four couples tip at the end of the A2 session. Di and Terry called five tips in each session. During the sessions we had 32 participants and the Four Couples we had 27. We had a lot of fun dancing to Di and Terry and friends.

After the last dance we watched YouTube videos. In the evening we watched a couple of episodes of Downton Abbey. Then I watched a few episodes of Star Trek: Voyager. I ended up doing 27,500 steps, which put me in 3rd place in my group.

Monday 4-26 Just Having Fun

Smile and be happy

We had another beautiful spring day with the temperatures in the low 80s. It was cloudy all day with a wind.

The birds were once again active in the feeder, porch and hummingbird feeder. A cardinal paid us a visit on the porch. A couple of squirrels showed on the porch and a couple of them were under the oak tree. When the birds and squirrels left I blew off the porch because they left a mess.

I slept in until 8:20. Then I did the Daily Challenges and the Event: Two Game Tango Mini of 10 games (5 Klondike and 5 Spider). It took me 1 hour, 17 minutes and 31 seconds to complete, which put me in 24th place in my group. I also did a few Dark Solitaire Klondike games in the Star Club Challenges. The Solitaire games in Dark Solitaire are hard and the cards are dark color.

While I played my games Larry worked on editing my annual book.

After lunch I finished mowing the backyard. Then I laid down for an hour.

After Larry finished editing my book we watched an episode of the GizWiz.

We attended one virtual square dance, which was Daryl Murphy's Weekly A2/C1 at 5:45. Daryl invited Betsy Gotta to come and call the C1 session of the dance. Daryl called four tips in the A2 session, the fourth tip was four couples. Betsy called four two couples tips for C1. During the A2 session we had 11 participants and C1 session we had 8. We had a great evening of dancing to Daryl and Betsy.

Sunday 4-25 Yardwork and More

Gorgeous Day

We had a gorgeous day with the high of 84 and a lot of sunshine. In the afternoon a breeze came up.

We had a lot of activity in the birdfeeder and on the back porch. We had doves, hummingbirds, sparrows and finches. The squirrels were active on the porch and under the oak tree. At times the doves were eating along side the squirrels.

I started the day out by doing the Daily Challenges and the Event: World Tour Mini of 10 games. It took me 1 hour, 7 minutes and 23 seconds, which put me in 25th place in my group. I also did some Star Club Retro Tri Peaks.

Larry did our weekly grocery shopping online. Walmart delivered it at 1:00. They had to substitute a few items that were out of stock, the substitutes were fine.

Larry is done with his hippie guy and girl paper project, now he needs to decide how to display them. They are really cute.

After lunch we did some yardwork. Larry mowed the frontyard, while I weedeated. Then I took over the mowing and mowed half of the backyard. Larry blew off the the driveway, porch and walkway. Afterwards he treated for bugs. He used a backpack sprayer to treat the eves and foundation. He used a spreader and granular treatment for the yard areas. It took me an hour and a half to do my part. Larry worked a little longer.

We had two virtual square dances scheduled for today. First was Doren McBroom's Bi-Monthly DBD at 1:30 for an hour and a half. I zoomed in and we only had three people show up so after 10 minutes Doren decided to cancel the dance.

The second dance was Loren Smith's Weekly A2/C1 at 7:30. Loren invited Ett McAtee to come help him call. We danced 3 A2 tips, 1 C1 Learn and 2 C1 tips. During the A2 session we had 31 participants and the C1 session we had 23. We had a great evening of dancing.

Before the dance we watched two episodes of the GizWiz and YouTube videos.

In the afternoon I did laundry.

For dinner I barbecued baby back ribs. They came out delicious.

Saturday 4/24 Girl Power 2 & Saturday Night Fever Dances

Dance Day

We had a wonderful day of sunshine. The temperature got to 79 degrees.

We started the day out by going to Michael's. Larry wanted to get a certain color of brown and blue for paper projects. Micheal's had cardstock on sale for 25% off. We were able to purchase what he wanted. Then we walked next door to Target and picked up some chili we like.

Shopping

When we got home I did the Daily Challenges and the Event: Two Game Tango Mini of 10 games (5 Klondike and 5 Spider). It took me 52 minutes and 32 seconds to complete, which put me in 17th place in my group.

Larry worked on a couple of projects on his Cameo.

We attended two virtual square dances. First was Girl Power 2 at 1:00 to 3:15. We had Girl Power 1 awhile back, it was a tremendous success, the callers had a lot of fun calling and there was a great turn out so they decided to do another one. This dance had Di Green from England, Ett McAtee from Maryland and Judi Burr from Germany calling the square dancing tips and Amy Shotting cued the Round Dancing tips. The ladies decided to try a different format. Zoom now has the option of breakout rooms, the dance started with everyone in the main room and then everyone separated into one of four breakout rooms: Mainstream, Plus, A2 or Rounds. This worked out excellent. We danced in the A2 room. Ett and Di called in the room (Ett called 2 tips, Di called 2 tips and Ett called the last 2 tips). 136 participants were logged into the dance and our breakout room reached a high of 51. The opening singing call was done by Di, Judi did the closing singing call. We had a super afternoon of dancing. The callers had a great time and said they were going to do it again.

The second dance was Don Moger's Weekly Saturday Night Fever. This week Don invited Tom Miller to help him call. We danced three A2 tips and two C1 tips. Tom and Don rotated the calling. During the A2 tips we had 59 participants and C1 had 51. We had great time dancing to Don and Tom and with friends.

In between the dances Larry watched a couple of episodes of GizWiz.

I finished reading Silence in Hanover. After the last dance we watched a couple of episodes of Downton Abbey. Then I watched a couple of episode of Star Trek: Voyager. We were surfing through Amazon and Acorn to decide on what to watch next, we came across the Murdock Mysteries and it said I didn't finish watching the 13th season so I watched them. I ended up doing 27,000 steps, which kept me in 2nd place in my group.

We attended two virtual square dances. The first was Dayle Hodge's Weekly C1 at 11:00. We had 28 participants for the two couple C1 and 16 for the four couples tip. Dayle put us in challenging positions and cued very little but we had a great time.

Wednesday 4-21 Record Low and Second Covid Shot

Beautiful cold day

We had a record low of 37 degrees, this broke the old record of 47 which was set in 1910. We had a high of 60, which is about 20 degrees lower than usual. We had a strong wind out of the north. Even with it being cold we still had the squirrels and birds visit us, including a couple of hummingbirds.

A dove enjoying its food

I'm back

Yesterday, we received this years property tax assessment for our house from the Bell County Appraisal District. This year I turn 65 and in Texas when a homeowners turns 65 their school property taxes are frozen. This morning we went to the Bell County Appraisal District office to fill out the form. Now we just have to wait until October to see if it goes into effect this year or next year. The lady who helped us didn't know.

When we got home I did the Daily Challenges and the Event: Easy Street Mini of 5 games. It took me 11 minutes and 11 seconds, which put me in 22nd place in my group.

When we go out of town we ask our neighbor Thomas to look after our home. Larry made him and his wife (Debby) a thank you card.

Thank you card for Thomas and Debby

We attended two virtual square dances. First was Dayle Hodge's Weekly A2 at 11:00. He called five tips. During the two couple tips we had 41 participants and 37 during the four couples tip. Dayle cued through out the dance and walked us through moves when necessary. We had a great time.

The second was Doren McBroom's Weekly A2/C1 at 6:15 for an hour and a half. This week Doren asked Jeremy Butler to call the dance. Jeremy called four tips of A2 with 12 participants. He called three tips of C1 with 10 participants. We had a super evening of dancing to Jeremy and friends.

In the afternoon Larry took me to get my second dose of COVID-19 vaccination. Now I'm fully vaccinated and so is Larry. We're very excited about this.

After the last dance we watched a couple of episodes of Downton Abbey. Then I watched a few episodes of Star Trek: Voyager. Then I read a little while. I ended up doing 26,500 steps, which put me in 2nd place in my group.

Tuesday 4-20 Gorgeous Day and Square Dancing

Gorgeous Day

We had a gorgeous day of sunshine with a high of 70 degrees. We had wind so it was a bit chilly.

I'm excited, the hummingbirds are returning. Yesterday, we had two show up and they were back again today. They hung around drinking nectar for a while.

While we were on our trip I didn't feed the birds, it took a few days before the birds started to show up. A couple of days ago we had a few doves and some sparrows. It's always exciting watching wildlife. I usually bring the bird feeder in around 6:00 but lately I have waited until 8:00 because the birds are still using it.

The hummingbird has returned

Today was a busy day of square dancing, we attended three dances. First was Dayle Hodge's Weekly Plus at 11:00. He called four, two couple tips and one four couple tip. He had 29 participants for the two couples tips and 25 for the four couples tip. We had another outstanding hour of dancing to Dayle and virtual friends.

The second on was Di Green's Weekly A1/A2 at 1:30 for two hours with a fifteen minutes break. Di and Terry rotate calling and each session has five tips. During the A1 session they had 36 participants and A2 had 38. I dance the A1 session by myself and Larry joins me for A2. It is always a pleasure to dance to Di and Terry because they are very enthusiastic and dance while they call. They celebrate with the dancers when they get home. We had a great time.

The third dance was Don Moger's Weekly A2 at 6:00 for an hour and a half. He had 47 participants and called five tips. The fourth tip Don worked on full square material with phantoms. We had a fun evening of dancing with Don and friends.

Square dancing with friends

In between the dances I did the Daily Challenges and the Event: Medium Mayhem of 27 games. It took me 1 hour, 31 minutes and 34 seconds, which put me in 13th place in my group. I read.

Larry started the day out by going to Walmart. He did some grocery shopping, picked up oil for the car and truck and ant killer.

After the last dance we watched a couple episodes of the fifth season of Downton Abbey. Then I watched three episodes of Star Trek: Voyager. Then I read a bit. I ended up doing 26,000 steps, which put me in 3rd place in my group.

Monday 4-19 Back to Dancing & Yardwork

Great Day

We had an overcast day with a mild 72 degrees.

In the morning it was in the 40's. Larry finished making a couple of envelopes. Then he got a box ready to be shipped to his mom for Mother's Day. I did the Daily Challenges and the Event: Two Game Tango Mini of 10 games (5 Klondike and 5 Tri Peaks). It took me 1 hour, 6 minutes and 45 seconds, which put me in 24th place in my group. I started playing some Star Club Klondike games in the Retro 30th Anniversary section.

When it warmed up Larry went outside and did a few yardwork projects. He has been waiting for a day where there wasn't much wind and it is not suppose to rain for a few days. Today was the perfect day. He started out by running the sprinklers to wet the yards. Then he applied weed and feed fertilizer to the yards. After that he sprayed all of the weeds in the gravel areas. The next project was treating for fire ants. We usually don't have a lot of fire ants hills but today he said he had to treat about 20 hills. He thinks maybe it had something to do with the winter ice storm and all the rain we had.

We haven't square danced in over a month. Today we attended two virtual square dances. The first one was Joachim Ruehenbeck's A1/A2 two hour dance at 12:30. I danced the first session A1 by myself while Larry finished the yardwork. Joachim called five tips and had 31 participants. Then we had a half hour break. Larry joined me for the A2 session. Di Green was there and welcomed us back. Everyone did the same. We were really rusty but Joachim thought we were doing fine. He called four tips with 33 participants. We had a great time.

The second dance was Daryl Murphy's Weekly A2/C1 dance at 5:45 for two hours. This week he invited Betsy Gotta to call the A2 session. Daryl called the C1 session. During the A2 session we had 14 participates and Betsy called four two couple tips. During the C1 session Daryl had 10 participantes. Usually Daryl calls three tips of two couple and one of four couples but this week he decided to work on T-Bones and Concentric concepts. We had a great evening of dancing.

In between the dances I did some housework and started to read the ninth book of Charlotte and Thomas Pitt series, which is Silence Hanover.

Larry worked on something new using his Cameo.

After Larry went to bed I watched a few episodes of Star Trek: Voyager. I continued to read. I ended up doing 26,000 steps, which put me in 4th place in my group.

Sunday 4-18 Visiting Louise

Just having fun

We had a wonderful day. It was cool all day with the high of 68 degrees.

We started the day out by going to Round Rock to visit Larry's sister, Louise. Before we went on our trip Larry had made Louise an Easter bag full of candy (jelly beans, chocolate egg, peanut butter egg, box of chocolate candies and small chocolate eggs). She was surprised and happy. Next up was taking care of a few home maintenance items. One of the transition pieces going from her laminate floor to her tile had become dislodged, Larry repaired this by gluing it down. In the same area he re-glued part of another transition that was loose. We have had the same problem at our house. We have laminate flooring and the transition strips can be easily broken or loosen. When I vacuum I have hit the strips and broken them off. Other times I have kicked them and broke them. Larry has fixed them multiple times. He also replaced one of her garage light led bulbs. Next up were her two outside water hose attachments, both of them were leaking, he was able to adjust the packing nuts and get them to stop leaking. While he did these projects I played with Alice her dog.

We had brought lunch, which was bacon and baked beans. We put the bacon on hamburger buns. Louise made peanut butter cookies for dessert. We had a super visit with Louise and Alice.

Easter bag

I did the Daily Challenges and the Event: Klondike Mini of 10 games. It took me 22 minutes and 36 seconds to finish, which put me in 15th place in my group.

Then I finished reading Cardington Crescent. We watched a couple of episodes of GizWiz and a few YouTube videos.

In the evening we finished watching the third season of Downton Abbey. Then I watched Star Trek: Voyager. I ended up doing 26,000 steps, which put me in 5th place in my group for the week with 186,722 steps.

Saturday 4-17 Laid Back Day

Laid back day

We didn't have anything on the agenda today so we hung around the house. The weather was cool with a high of 53 degrees. In the afternoon we had a little rain.

Larry finished a paper crafting project.

We have a cast iron griddle in the Minnie that we have used for many years. I asked Larry if he could clean it up for me. Today he cleaned it up and re-seasoned it via directions from Lodge Cast Iron. To further season it Larry suggested I use it to cook bacon for dinner. The bacon came out delicious.

I did the Daily Challenges and the Event: Spider Mini of 5 games. It took me 14 minutes and 54 seconds, which put me in 19th place in my group.

We spent the afternoon reading.

In the evening we watched the movie Fiddler on the Roof. We own the DVD and over the years we have watched it many times. It is about 3 hours long but we really enjoy it. Then I watched three episodes of Star Trek: Voyager. I ended up doing 27,000 steps, which put me in 5th place in my group.

Friday 4-16 Making Nectar

Wet dreary day

The heavy rain is gone be it was misting all day. It got to 65 degrees. It was cool but not cold.

Look at all the rain we had yesterday

Water draining off the neighbor's roof

I started the day out by finishing reading Bluegate Fields by Anne Perry. In the afternoon I started another book by Anne Perry called Cardington Crescent. The books I have been reading are Historic Fiction from the a series about Charlotte and Thomas Pitt. Thomas Pitt is a inspector in the series, Charlotte is his wife who is from high society. She has to adapt to Thomas's way of life, which is looked down on by the high society. She is an outspoken woman and reads newspapers in the 1800s. Thomas talks about his cases with Charlotte and listens to her input if he likes it or not. They are very well written.

Reading is fun

Larry did a paper project using the Cameo. It has been over a month since he has done a project because we have been camping.

I did Daily Challenges and the Event: Two Games Tango of 10 games (5 Free Cell and 5 Pyramid). It took me 1 hour, 18 minutes and 13 seconds, which put me in 17th place in my group.

Larry saw a hummingbird flying around outside our living room window. I hadn't made any nectar for them this year so off to the kitchen I went. Larry went on the internet to get the recipe for making nectar ( 1 cup of water and 1/4 cup of sugar). I boiled 4 cups of water and added 1 cup of sugar. After the sugar was dissolved I let the mixture cool. While the nectar was cooling Larry put some Command strips on the back railing to hold our homemade hummingbird feeders. Once the nectar was cooled off I filled the bowls. I am ready for the hummingbirds to return.

Ready for the Hummingbirds

In the evening we continued watching the fourth season of Downton Abbey. Then I watched a couple episodes of the third season of Star Trek: Voyager. While I was watching television I did 27,000 steps, which put me in 4th place in my group. Then I read.

Thursday 4-15 Minnie Project and Second Dose

Enjoying the rain

A front came in at midnight with rain. When we woke up the rain had stopped but it came back around 4:00 in the afternoon. It rained hard but stopped about a half hour later. A little while later it started to rain again and it stayed around all night. The front kept the temperature at 61 degrees

The construction workers next door have been plugged into our power and when it started raining really hard the breaker tripped, Larry noticed it because a couple of our security cameras are on the same circuit and they went offline. Larry tried to reset the breaker and it kept tripping so he unplugged the construction workers extension cord and he was then able to reset the breaker. When it stopped raining he plugged the extension cord back in and I told the workers they were back in business.

Larry started the day out by replacing the drain valve for the fresh water tank in the Minnie. He also installed new tank level sensors. This took him all morning.

I did the Daily Challenges and the Event: Pyramid Mini of 5 games. It took me 12 minutes and 34 seconds, which put me in 11th place in my group.

After lunch we went to Baylor Scott and White to get Larry the second dose of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine. They gave him a nice sticker that says he's vaccinated. I'll get mine next week. On the way home we stopped by Walmart and did a little grocery shopping.

When we got home I put the groceries away.

Larry moved the Minnie to the side of the house and filled the water tank, the new sensors worked perfectly along with the drain valve and there were no leaks. Everything works great. Way to go, Larry!!! While Larry finished up his project I read.

 We're so excited

We watched more YouTube videos. Then we started to watch the fourth season of Downton Abbey. When Larry went to bed I continued reading. I ended up doing 27,000 steps, which put me in 5th place in my group.

Wednesday 4-14 Doing This and That

What should we do day?

We had another cool overcast day with wind out of the north. It was perfect weather for doing things outside.

Larry started the day out by going to the dentist. While we were on our camping trip Larry cracked a tooth so he called and made an appointment for this morning at 9:00. He left a little early to swing by the UPS Store to pick up our mail, we hadn't done this in over three weeks. The dentist put a temporary crown on the tooth and now has to go back in three weeks for the permanent. While there the dentist put the crown back on another tooth.

While he was gone I did the Daily Challenges and the Event: Solitaire World Tour of 30 games. I got stuck on a couple of expert games. It took me 5 hours, 50 minutes and 11 seconds, which put me in 12th place in my group. When I wasn't working on solving the Solitaire games I read.

Reading is fun

After lunch Larry went outside and replaced the sprinkler heads on the septic system. There are four of them and while they all still worked the years of sun and weather had deteriorated them. Rather than waiting for one to fail he decided to replace them. He was able to order them from a company out of Houston.

Larry was busy doing this and that

In the evening we continued watching YouTube videos that we follow. We're almost caught up on them. Afterwards I started to watch the third season of Star Trek: Voyager. I ended up doing 27,000 steps, which put me in 6th place in my group.
