Monday 1-30-23 Dancing, Games & Keeping Warm

Cold Front

It was cold all day. The temperature started at 28 degrees and didn't get much warmer, it only got to 30 degrees. We stayed inside trying to keep warm.

We started the day out by attending Di Green and Terry McCann's Weekly C1 at 9:00 for an hour. Di called five tips with 20 participants. Di put us in challenging positions and walked us through the moves when necessary. We had a super time.

I did the Daily Challenges of Solitaire and Mahjong. The event today was Event: Two Game Tango Mini of 10 games (5 Free Cell and 5 Pyramid). It took me 1 hour, 21 minutes and 57 seconds, which put me in 13th place in my group. I played Angry Birds 2 and Angry Birds and Friends.

We played pinball games. I spent an hour or so playing Tron so I could post my high score.

Larry continued having fun with his new project. He is working on getting the buttons to work on various programs. It's very challenging and he is enjoying it a lot.

It was cold so I made a pasta bake to help warm up the house a bit.

Pasta Bake

In the evening we watched Thor: Ragnarok on dvd. Then I watched Fried Green Tomatoes on Freevee. I watched a couple of episodes of Rockford Files. I ended up doing 27,000 steps, which put me in 2nd place in my group.

Sunday 1-29-23 Another Nasty Day & Dancing

Overcast day

The day started out in the low 60's with a little rain and it was overcast all day. As the day went on the temperature kept dropping. By 6:00 it was in in the mid 30s. It's suppose to be rainy and cold for next few days.

Larry made pancakes for breakfast.

A couple of days ago Larry asked me if I would like to join a group of virtual pinball players who post their high scores for a specific game each week. This week the challenge game is Tron. Larry installed the game and I started playing it. I like the game and it will be interesting to see how I do against other players. This is a fairly new group, there are normally 20 - 30 people who participate.

We also played other games. One we played was Mustang. I pushed the button twice, which sets it up for two players. So I challenged Larry to the game. Larry is Grand Champion with the score of 62,287,260. This game is fun, it is fast, has great music and funny comments. We had a great time.

I played the Daily Challenges of Solitaire and Mahjong. The event today was Event: The Hard Road of 16 games. It took me 2 hours, 23 minutes and 22 seconds, which put me in 12th place in my group. Then I did some Angry Birds.

I attended two virtual square dances. First was Ett McAtee's Weekly C Series at 1:00 for an hour and a half. This week she was out of town so she asked Tony Collingwood from U.K. to call for her. Larry and I have danced to him with our tape group and he was very challenging. Today I attended this dance by myself and had a great time. He called six tips with 24 participants. He was challenging because he didn't click when he went from full square material to two couple. He also put use in challenging positions. He struggled a bit but still had fun. Tony did a great job of covering for Ett.

Second was Loren Smith's Weekly A2/C1 at 7:30 for an hour and a half. Loren called three tips of A2 with 13 participants, one tip of C1 Teach with 12 participants and three tips of C1 with 12 participants. During the teach tip Loren worked on Rotate, Single Rotate, Reverse Rotate and Single Reverse Rotate. He also worked on Any Hand Swing the Fractions. This move was very challenging because the dancers were single dancers and danced with seven phantoms. We lost our phantoms. The dance was very challenging but was fun.

After Larry went to bed I finished watching the second season of Hope Street. Then I watched an episode of Rockford Files. I ended up doing 26,000 steps, which put me in 4th place in my group for the week with 185,255 steps.

I spent most of the day working on the 3D jigsaw puzzle. I played some pinball games.

While I did my games Larry continued working on his new gaming machine.

In the evening we watched O Brother, Where Art Thou? on Amazon. It's an old movie put it's still cute. Afterwards I watched three episodes of Hope Street. Then I watched two episodes of Rockford Files on Freevee. I ended up doing 28,000 steps, which put me in 4th place in my group.

Friday 1-27-23 Dancing, Puzzle, Games & More

It's Friday let's dance

The day started out with the temperature of 30 degrees and got to 60 degrees. There was a little breeze so it was cold all day. We hung around the house having fun doing this and that.

I played my games. I did the Daily Challenges of Solitaire and Mahjong. The event today was Event: Two Game Tango Mini of 10 games (5 Klondike and 5 Spider). It took me 55 minutes and 26 seconds to complete, which put me in 19th place in my group. I played Angry Birds.

I read The Cape Doctor on my Kindle for an hour. I started to assemble the 3D jigsaw puzzle.

Larry continued working on the mini computer.

In the evening I attended Ett McAtee's Weekly A2/C1 dance at 6:30 for an hour and a half. Ett was out of town so she asked Loren Smith to cover for her. He called 6 tips of A2 with 18 participants and 1 tip of C1 with 16 participants. Usually Ett calls 4 tips of A2 and 1 tip of C1. Loren did an excellent job calling and everyone had a great time. I danced by myself.

After the dance we watched an episode of Hope Street and an episode of Death in Paradise. After Larry went to bed I watched Rogue One: A Star War Story on dvd. Then I watched an episode of Rockford File. I ended up doing 27,000 steps, which put me in 3rd place in my group.

Thursday 1-26-23 Dance, Puzzle & Having Fun

Just having fun

We had a great day of having fun

We started the day by attending Dayle Hodge's Weekly C1 dance at 11:00 for an hour. Dayle called four tips of two couple C1 and one tip of four couple C1 with 13 participants. Dayle worked on virtual tag and left virtual tag. He put us in complex positions but we had fun. Larry danced with me and we had a great time dancing to Dayle and with friends.

I played my games. I did the Daily Challenges of Solitaire and Mahjong. Then I did the event, which was Event: Two Game Tango (10 Klondike and 10 Pyramid). It took me 1 hour, 54 minutes and 9 seconds, which put me in 14th place in my group. Then I played Angry Birds 2 and Angry Birds and Friends.

We decided to take the Minnie back to storage. Once we put it away we plugged it in and setup the small heaters. Larry put the charger on the battery. Afterwards we went to the UPS Store to mail a package and pickup our mail.

Shirley gave me a jigsaw puzzle for Christmas, which is Puzz3D Traditional Collection. It's has 264 pieces but it's going to take some time because it's 3D. The puzzle came with directions on how to assemble it. It has five steps. Separate the waste pieces from the pieces to assemble. I did this before we went camping. Today I examined the pieces and separated the pieces by color.

I played some pinball.

Larry spent the day working on the new mini computer. He installed a couple of pinball games on it to see how they run with the mini computer and small monitor. They worked great. Then he started working on his new project.

In the evening we watched a couple of episodes of the second season of Hope Street. Then I watched Hugo from our dvd collection. The movie was about a boy who lived in a clock and can fix anything. It's a good movie. Then I watched a couple of episodes of Rockford Files. I ended up doing 28,000 steps, which put me in 3rd place in my group.

Wednesday 1-25-23 Hiking, Home & New Pinball Game

Awesome Day

We had an awesome day.

We started the day out in Meridian State Park with the temperature at 34 degrees. We baked cinnamon rolls in the oven for breakfast. The oven helped the two small heaters keep the Minnie warm.

After breakfast we went on a 5.5 mile hike. We did a similar hike to Monday except we added the Shinnery Ridge trail (1.5 mile loop) and skipped The Little Forest Junior Trail. Once again we started at the refectory.  Due to all of yesterdays rain some places were a little muddy but not too bad. We had a super hike.

Bosque trail entrance sign at the tent campground

When we returned we had lunch. After lunch we started to get ready to go. We had paid for the night but Larry was expecting a package at the house. We weren't going to do much here but read so we decided to go home. Larry dumped the tanks, this was easy because we had full hookups. I  did the little bit of dishes and put things away making sure they were secured for the trip home. Before we left I went over to the dumpsters and got rid of our trash and recycled our cans. We were on the way home about noon.

We got home by 1:30. Larry turned on the water and made sure everything was working ok in the house. I unloaded the Minnie. It only took about a half hour because I had already bagged the items we were going to take in the house.

We had a super trip to Meridian State Park.

After putting things away I played my games. I did the Daily Challenges of Solitaire and Mahjong. Then I moved on to the event, which was Event: World Tour Mini of 10 games. It took me 54 minutes and 51 seconds to complete, which put me in 17th place in my group.

The day we left on our trip Larry loaded The Lords of the Rings pinball game on the pinball machine. He was having problems getting the sound to work correctly but when we got home he had a new idea and it fixed the problem. He played it a few times and it works great. He was the Grand Champion with the score of 40,640,040. I played it once and I had a super game. I ended up knocking him down to 1st place because I got the score of 50,903,990, now I'm Grand Champion. It's an outstanding game. The playfield has outstanding graphics, a lot of activity going on and the sound works great.

My score

In the evening I attended Dave Eno's Weekly C1/A2 dance at 6:30 for two hours. This week Karin Rabe, Greg Moore and Dave Hutchinson helped Dave call the dance. The format was two tips of C1 with 9 participants, five tips of A2 with 12 participants and one tip of C1 with 11 participants. The two Daves called the first two C1 tips together. Karin and Greg took turns calling two of the A2 tips, Dave Eno called two of the A2 tips and the last A2 tip Karin, Greg and Dave Eno took turns calling. The last C1 tip Dave Eno called by himself. In between the A2 tips we played Trivia. I had a great time dancing with friends.

The day before we left on our trip Larry received a mini computer he's going to use in his new project so he worked on it.

After Larry went to bed I watched K-Pax from our dvd collection. Then I watched an episode of Rockford Files, which was the second part of the last episode I watched before going camping. I ended up doing 28,000 steps, which put me in 3rd place in my group with 76,087 steps.

Tuesday 1-24-23 Rainy Day

It rained on and off all day. At times it rained hard. We spent the day keeping warm under the heater reading.

I finished My Notorious Life by Kate Manning. It was based partly on a true story about Ann Tow Lohman (1811-78). It was a great book about the struggles of a female physician in New York City in 1800s. I had started reading it a couple of weeks ago. I read it in between dancing and playing pinball. Today I started reading The Cape Doctor by E.J. Levy. Larry thought it was an excellent book. So far I agree.

Larry read two books and wrote reviews on them on Goodreads.

I did the Daily Challenges of Solitaire and Mahjong. Then I did the event, which was Event: Tri Peaks Adventure of 20 games. It took me 1 hour and 32 seconds to complete, which put me in 8th place in my group.

I tried to do my steps outside after dinner but it was too cold and it was sprinkling on and off. I really don't like doing my steps inside the Minnie because it's too small and it's not made for you to be jumping around. I just step in place but it still moves the Minnie around but I wanted to do at least my daily goal on my Garmin of 16,726, I ended up doing 20,000 steps. It put me in 5th place in my group for my weekly challenge of 175,000 steps. I'm only 2,000 steps behind but I'll catch up.

LIFE IS GOOD!!!!

Monday 1-23-23 Camping & Hiking at Meridian

Meridian State Park entrance

We had a gorgeous day. We had sunshine and a lite breeze. The low was 24 degrees and the high was 55 degrees.

Camping at Meridian State Park

Yesterday, we set up the two small heaters (one on the table and the other at the kitchen sink). When I went to bed I adjusted the heaters controls to 66 degrees. Larry gets up a couple of hours earlier then I so he turned the controls up to 70 or so. The heater on the table was running on high when I got up. It was a little nippy but comfortable. After I got dressed we had leftover danishes for breakfast.

To prevent blisters on longer hikes Larry has to apply tape to multiple places on both feet. When he finished we went on a four mile hike. We started at the CCC Refectory and picked up the Bosque Trail (blue dots). We hiked over the CCC dam to the trail on the other side of the lake. We hiked the trail to a cove where we had to climb a few steps to get to the road. From there we hiked the road for a little ways to the tent campground. We walked by a tenter and their dogs barked to say hi. We rested there and enjoyed the view of the lake. After our rest we continued on the blue trail. As we were climbing up a hill I tripped and fell. Larry tried to catch me before I hit the ground but my momentum was too fast. I scrapped me knee but I was alright. I bounced right back up and we continued our hike. We walked the trail until we reached the Bee Ledge. The ledge got it's name because there use to be a giant bee hive hanging from the ledge. Years ago people used to carve their initials in the limestone. We climbed the steps to get to the overlook of Lake Meridian. After looking at the view we took the trail to where it joined Little Forest Junior Trail (yellow dots). We hiked this trail to Little Springs Trail (orange dots). Then we hiked this trail back to the campground. We had a super hike.

Beach area on Lake Meridian

The Bosque trail is 2.2 miles around Lake Meridian, at places it was challenging because you had to climb up hills and take a cable down a steep hill. The Little Forest Junior trail is .8 miles through the forest and through a meadow, where in the springtime you can see wildflowers. The Little Springs trail is .7 mile loop that goes up and down hills through the forest. All the trails have rocks and roots on them so you have to be careful but they're beautiful trails.

In the afternoon I went on a walk for an hour. I hiked the Little Springs Trail three times. It was an easy trail and nice.

Before dinner I did the 16 games to earn the gold ticket so my points would double while playing Solitaire. I did the Daily Challenges of Solitaire and Mahjong. Then I did the event, which was Event: Medium Mayhem Mini of 5 games. It took me 13 minutes and 3 seconds, which put me in

It's suppose to rain all day tomorrow so after dinner I folded up the chairs and put them away. We had barbecued pork sausage patties for dinner so Larry put the grill away after it cooled off.

Afterwards we went for an hour walk. Larry walked with me for 40 minutes. We walked the park road. We started at the Minnie and turned right by the Refectory. We walked the road past the CCC bridge towards the main entrance. By the time we got back to our campground we had walked over 2 miles. When we got to the sign to go to our site and the smaller sites Larry turned to go back to the Minnie I walked to the Little Springs trailhead. I visited with the campers there for a bit. Then I walked the trail. By the time I got home I had walked 3 miles. It was a great walk.

When I got home I finished my steps. I ended up doing 28,000 steps, which puts me in 1st place in my group for the start of a new week of my challenge of 175,000 steps.

Sunday 1-22-23 Camping at Meridian State Park

Beautiful cool dy

We had a beautiful day with sunshine. The low was 34 degrees and it got to 57 degrees in Belton. There was wind so it was chilly all day.

We started the day out by going to Walmart to pickup a few items to take with us on our trip.

Grocery shopping

When we got home I finished loading the Minnie for our trip to Meridian State Park. After lunch I did the dishes and put a small cooler together. Larry loaded the electronics into the Minnie. Before leaving he went around the house and made sure everything was secure and he turned the water off going to the house just to be on the safe side.

We were on the road by noon. Meridian State Park is about 70 miles from the house, it took us an hour and a half to get there. It was easy to check-in because you have to make reservations and we have been here before.

There are only 15 sites in the park and it was easy to find our site, which is #3. It's right across the street from the bathroom. The sites in our loop are pull throughs with full hookups. It's a great site with a lot of trees to give us privacy. It has a picnic table, hook for trash or lantern and a fire ring with a grill on it. The site is level so we didn't need to use blocks.

Larry parked the Minnie and I put our chairs outside. After setting up the Minnie we relaxed in the Minnie because it was still a little chilly.

For dinner we had soft tacos. I seasoned the hamburger with a new taco seasoning, Great Value Chipotle flavor taco seasoning. It was good. For dessert we had a Walmart chocolate creme mini pie. It was delicious.

After dinner we went for a walk around the campground. This time of year it starts to get dark around 6:00 pm. Larry walked with me for about a half hour and I walked another half. hour. We walked part of the trail that goes around the lake (Bosque). When I walked by myself I walked the park road that goes around the lake. I took a few pictures while I walked. I walked by the CCC road bridge, CCC Reflectory building, cabins, boat dock, over a bridge on the trail and campsites. It was a great walk.

A couple of rental cabins that are the lake

Bridge on the Bosque trail

The CCC Refectory building

Have you ever wondered what a Refectory is, according to Wikipedia.....

A refectory (also frater house, fratery) is a dining room, especially in monasteries, boarding schools and academic institutions. One of the places the term is most often used today is in graduate seminaries. The name derives from the Latin reficere "to remake or restore," via Late Latin refectorium, which means "a place one goes to be restored" (cf. "restaurant").

When I got home I finished my steps. I ended up doing 20,000 steps. I would have done more but it was getting cold outside. I came in 4th place in my group for the week with 187,143 steps.

Last night before I went to bed I did the Daily Challenges of Solitaire and Mahjong. After Larry went to bed today I did the event, which was Pyramid Mini of 5 games. It too me 9 minutes and 32 seconds, which put me in 11th place in my group.

Saturday 1-21-23 Going Camping

Awesome Day

We had a busy day.

We haven't been on a camping trip since we got back from our fall trip in October. The next week is suppose to be beautiful with temperatures in the high 50's and 60s, there is a chance of rain on Tuesday, we decided to go camping. Larry got on the Texas state parks web site and made reservations for Meridian State Park for four nights.

We went to the storage center and picked up the Minnie. On the way home Larry stopped and filled it with gas. About a month ago we had a really cold spell where temperatures were below freezing for a few day so we had drained and winterized the Minnie. When we got it home Larry parked it on the side of the house and filled the water tank and water heater. Then he ran the water through the pipes. Next he drove the Minnie to the front of the garage.

After getting home from our fall trip Larry did some maintenance on the Minnie but we didn't get around to washing her, she was filthy. It took us over two hours to wash it. There were a lot of bugs and we had to scrub them off. After washing and wiping it down Larry did the wheels. Now it looks good.

Afterwards Larry plugged it into power and I turned on the refrigerator.

Next project was for me. I loaded up the clothes we were taking with us. Then I made the bed. I'll finish getting the Minnie ready in the morning.

I did a few loads of clothes, cleaned the bathrooms and vacuumed the house.

Doing chores

I played the Daily Challenges of Solitaire and Mahjong. The event today was Event: Spider Adventures of 20 games. It took me 3 hours, 32 minutes and 30 seconds, which put me in 17th place in my group. Then I played Angry Birds.

In the evening we watched Men in Black 2 on dvd. Then I watched Finding Forrester on dvd. Afterwards I watched a couple episodes of Rockford Files.

Friday 1-20-23 Day of Having Fun & Dancing

Have a great weekend

We had an overcast day. There was a breeze. The temperature started at 38 degrees and the high was 55. It was a bit cool and we hung around the house.

I did the Daily Challenges of Solitaire and Mahjong. The event today was Event: Experts Only Mini of 5 games. It took me 50 minutes and 28 seconds, which put me in 9th place in my group. Then I played Angry Birds.

I read a little bit.

Relax with a good book

Larry continued doing research for his next project.

He is also doing small adjustments to the pinball games sound. The sound effects have always been very good but we will notice one effect that could be better and Larry will work on adjusting that one sound in a game. He has figured out how to edit the programming of specific sounds, on one of the games when the ball hits an upper bumper the sound was very harsh, he was able to edit that specific sound and tone it down. Depending on the programmer this does not always work, sometimes they do their sounds differently. While the sound effects don't actually change how the game plays they might affect how you view playing the game.

I played pinball for over two hours. Larry also played a bit of pinball. As we continue to play our scores are improving, not for every game but each day it seems that one of us will get a new high score.

Having fun playing pinball

I attended Ett McAtee's Weekly A2 dance at 6:30 for an hour and fifteen minutes. She called five tips to 16 participants. She walked us through sequences the we were having trouble with. I danced very well and had a super time dancing with friends.

Afterwards we watched the first Men In Black from our dvd collection. Then I watched Lara Croft: Tomb Raider from 2018 starring Alicia Vikander as Lara. It was about daughter, who goes in search of her missing adventurous father. It was good. Then I watched a couple of episodes of Rockford Files. I ended up doing 28,000 steps, which put me 4th place in my group.

Thursday 1-19-23 Laid Back Day

Laid back day

We had a laid back day.

We started the day attending Dayle Hodge's Weekly C1 at 11:00 for an hour. He called four tips, which were three tips of two couple and one tip of four couple with 10 participants. Dayle usually call five tips but he had a meeting at 12:00. Larry danced with me and we had an outstanding time dancing to Dayle and with our virtual friends.

I did the Daily Challenges of Solitaire and Mahjong. The event today was Event: Medium Mayhem Mini of 15 games. It took me 43 minutes and 19 seconds to complete. which put me in 16th place in my group. Then I played some Angry Birds games.

After lunch we went to town to do errands. First stop was the UPS Store to pick up our mail. Then we walked across the parking lot to Walmart and did our weekly grocery shopping.

Grocery shopping

After putting the groceries away I played pinball. Larry continued doing research on his next project.

We watched some YouTube videos.

In the evening we finished watching the first season of Hope Street and started the second season. After Larry went to bed I watched the second National Treasure called National Treasure: Book of Secrets from our dvd selection. Afterwards I watched a couple of episodes of Rockford Files on Freevee. I ended up doing 28,000 steps, which put me in 4th place in my group for the week.

Wednesday 1-18-23 Dance Day & Playing Games

Beautiful Cool Day

When I woke up it was sprinkling. A couple hours later the clouds rolled out and the sun came out. There was a lite breeze. By noon it was a cool 68. It got up into the mid to high 70s.

I attended my four weekly virtual square dances. First was Di Green and Terry McCann's Plus at 10:00 for an hour. I only danced four of their five tips. They took turns calling the tips to 10 participants. Di called two four couple moves: Acey Duecy and Spin Chain the Gears When she called the Spin Chain the Gears she did an excellent job of cueing the move so everyone would be successful. Terry usually doesn't call full square material but today he did a few doing the tips he called. He did a great job of calling. I had a fun time dancing to Terry and Di.

Second was Dayle Hodge's A1/A2 at 11:00 for an hour.He called two tips of two couple A1 with 11 participants, two tips of two couple A2 with 13 participants and one tip of four couple A2 with 13 participants. He did an outstanding job of calling. He explained to the dances where they should be and what formation they should be in. Larry danced with me and we had a super time dancing to Dayle and with friends.

Third was Ett McAtee's C1 at 1:00 for an hour and fifteen minutes at 1:00. Ett called five tips to 22 participants at the beginning and the last tip had 18 participants. I made a lot of mistakes because she put us in a lot of complicated positions for working with seven phantoms. The dance was very challenging and I didn't have a lot of fun.

Fourth was Dave Eno's C1/A2 for two hours at 6:30. The format was two C1 tips, five A2 tips and one C1 tip. This week Dave invited Joe Uebelacker to come and help him call the dance. Joe and Dave called the last A2 tip and last C1 tip together. They had 8 participants during the two C1 tips and 6 participants for the last C1 tip. During the A2 tips they had 9 participants. In between the tips we took turns tells three true statements and one false statement about ourselves and the other dancers had to guess which one was false. It was fun doing this. I had a great evening dancing to Dave and Joe and with friends.

While I danced Larry continued working on the pinball games we have, he continues to read and experiment on each individual game, the improvements are small but noticeable and more importantly he is enjoying working on them. Being able to easily move the machine is terrific. Since I was going to be doing a lot of dancing it the living room Larry rolled the machine into his workroom.

I played the Daily Challenges of Solitaire and Mahjong. The event today was Event: Easy Street of 30 games. It took me 1 hour, 6 minutes and 35 seconds to complete, which put me in 11th place in my group. I played Angry Birds. I played pinball for about a half hour, I usually play for a few hours.

I also read a little bit.

Relax with a good book

After the last dance we watched a couple of episodes of Hope Street. Then I watched the first movie of National Treasure. Afterwards I watched an episode of Rockford Files. I ended up doing 27,500 steps, which put me in 4th place in my group.

Watching television

Tuesday 1-17-23 Just Another Tuesday

Awesome Day

We had an awesome day hanging around the house and having fun.

We started the day by attending Di Green and Terry McCann's Weekly A2 dance at 10:00 for an hour. Di and Terry took turns calling five tips to 9 participants. Larry danced with me. We just danced because there were no request on moves to be worked on. We had a super time.

I played pinball for a couple of hours. Larry had to work on adjusting the volume on a couple of games, they were too loud. We could turn the volume down using the buttons but we almost had to turn it totally off. There are multiple volume adjustments for each game and depending on the developer they can be set in different ways in different places. Larry had to get into the actual game file and dig around to figure these out. He did a super job getting the volumes adjusted. Thank you, honey.

I did the Daily Challenges of Solitaire and Mahjong. Today's event was Event: World Tour Mini of 10 games. It took me 1 hour, 2 minutes and 47 seconds, which put me in 19th place in my group. Then I played Angry Birds 2 and Angry Birds and Friends.

In the evening we continued watching the first season of Hope Street. Then I watched the fourth movie of Indiana Jones, which was The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. We didn't have it but it was playing on Amazon. Afterwards I watched a couple of episodes of Rockford Files.

While we were watching television I did my steps. I ended up doing 28,000 steps, which put me in 5th place in my group.
