Tuesday 5-31 COVID Test Kits, Weedeater/Blower & More

Smile and have fun

We had a great day. It got up to 95 degrees.

We kept busy doing this and that.

Larry started the day out by working on some tech stuff with the router.

I attended Di Green and Terry McCann's Weekly A2 dance at 10:00 for an hour. Di and Terry's local clubs are celebrating Queen Elizabeth's Jubilee by wearing red, white and blue so I decided to continue the celebration with our UK friends, I wore a pair of blue jeans and a western shirt. One of the dancers remembered the hat I wore yesterday so I put it on. Some of the other dancers including Di and Terry wore red, white and blue.Di and Terry took turns calling five tips of A2 with 13 participants. I had a great time.

After the dance I played computer games. I did the Daily Challenges of Solitaire and Mahjong. Then I did the Event: Easy Street Mini of 5 games. It took me 9 minutes and 49 seconds, which put me in 18th place in my group.

Most years we have a lawn crew that comes and mows our yard every other week and we mow the front yard the week they don't come. After we mow we weedeat, edge and blow off the driveway, porch and out the garage. We have two old cordless weedeaters, both of them were used and given to us by friends. Larry has replaced the batteries in them a number of times and one of them again needs a new battery. Larry decided it was time to move to something new so he has been looking around. Today we went to The Home Depot and bought a Ryobi package that included a weedeater and a blower.

On the way to The Home Depot we stopped by Walmart to exchange our empty propane tanks for the grill.

When we got home Larry put the weedeater together and charged up the battery. Once the battery was charged Larry played with the weedeater and blower. It looks like they will work great. We will try them out in a couple of days.

Three weeks ago we decided to go back to some in person square dancing. We have since seen on the news and heard from online square dancers that vaccinated people are testing positive for COVID in increasing numbers. Larry went over to talk to one of our neighbors last week and he said that the previous week his wife wasn't feeling well and she tested positive, he was now not feeling well and tested positive, they are both vaccinated and boosted. We also have some friends who traveled to London and had to delay their return home due to one of them testing positive, they were also vaccinated. Apparently the vast majority of vaccinated people who are testing positive aren't being hospitalizing, they feel bad for a bit but tend not to get too ill. We have also heard of people in the square dancing community coming down with it after attending a big dance. Last weekend there was a large square dance event in Minnesota and two of the callers had to cancel because of positive Covid tests. This event required all attendees to provide proof of vaccination and to be tested before attending.

A while back the government had a program where you could get Covid test kits for free. We hadn't taken advantage of that but last week Larry read they were starting the program back up. He ordered the kits and they arrived today. At least with the kits if we are not feeling well we can test ourselves and if by chance we do test positive we can avoid passing it on to someone else.

We plan to continue in person dancing at a limited amount of small dances.

In the evening we watched a documentary about Stevie Ray Vaughan called Lonestar: Stevie Ray Vaughan. It was very good. While watching television I did a jazz program I learned years ago. I did 27,500 steps, which put me in 2nd place in my group. After Larry went to bed I continued watching the 15th season of Murdock Mysteries.
