Monday 3-25-24 First Day of Spring Trip

 Spring Trip begins

We started our spring trip at noon. We were going to start earlier but a front came through with rain. It started to rain at 2:00 am and didn't stop until after 9:00 am. There was still rain around in the direction we were going to travel.

Enjoying the rain

While waiting Larry downloaded hiking trails and got caught up with his reading on the web. I did the Daily Challenges of Solitaire and Mahjong. The event was Event: World Tour Mini of 10 games. It took me 33 minutes and 52 seconds, which put me in 17th place in my group. I finished putting the rest of the food in the Minnie.

Before leaving Larry backed the Minnie on the side of the house and filled the water tank. While it was getting filled he turned off the water to the house. Once the tank was filled we were on the road.

As we were leaving the neighborhood we passed our neighbors Jason and Courtney and we all waved. Shortly afterwards Jason texted us and wished us a great trip.

Larry drove 225 miles before calling it a day in Wichita Falls, TX at a Walmart at 5:30 pm. He fought a strong wind all day and was tired, winds were gusting over 30 mph. The Minnie is especially difficult to handle in high winds.

As we drove we saw a lot of beautiful wildflowers along the highway. The further north we went the less flowers we saw but the grass was very green. The scenery was very pretty.

We saw cattle, goats, sheep and horses. We saw a dog walking along side of the highway on the shoulder in the middle of nowhere. We saw a lonely turkey. We also drove by a dairy. We got stuck in construction multiple times. The first time was at Fort Hood right outside of Gatesville. We were stopped for over a half hour. The other couple of stops weren't as long.

After parking the Minnie for the night Larry rested a bit. Then we went to dinner. There were a lot of fast food places that we could walk to. We decided to try something new, we walked to the Northside Grill. Before walking over we looked it up on the web. They have a big menu and have their prices. People were very happy with the service and the food.

As we were walking in the grill a couple of gentlemen were walking in and held the doors open for us. They figured we were new to the grill so they told us just to seat ourselves and a wait person will come and take your order. We ordered the pulled pork sandwich with freshly cut fries. We shared the meal. The service was excellent and fast. The order was huge. The food was delicious.

The other day when we went to Walmart we stopped in Subway and bought one of their foot-long cookie chip cookies. When we got it home I cut it into eight pieces so it would be easier to eat. We weren't that impressed with how the cookie tasted. I like their other cookies better.

I spent most of today sleeping on and off. Larry had to point out most of the things, such as the dog and turkey.

We didn't do too much but we are very excited about getting away. I ended up only doing 1500 steps, which put me in 10th place in my group.

Louise thank you very much for buying us the beef jerky because we snacked on it as we drove.

Tomorrow we'll be in Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge and according to their website they don't have cell service. We're having fun.
