Saturday 4-1-23 April Fools Day & The Texas Fandango

April Fool's Day

Did you play any jokes on anyone? I didn't. We had a wonderful day with a lot of sunshine. The high today was 74 degrees.

We started the day off by going to Fredericksburg to attend The Texas Fandango. It is a vintage motorcycle swap meet, bike show and races. It is put on by the Cherokee Chapter of the AMCA. It started Friday and ends Sunday. It was held at the Gillespie County Fairgrounds, about 145 miles from the house.

Last night Larry mentioned the event and this morning we decided to go to it. After breakfast I put a cooler together and a bag of snacks.

We drove through the hill country, it was beautiful drive with lots of beautiful wildflowers. Much of the drive was two lane highways. On the way we stopped at a Taco Bell in Llano to have lunch. We arrived at the fairgrounds about noon. The entrance fee was $20.00 and it got you into the event for the entire weekend. After putting on our wrist bands we went through security where they wand you down and check womens purses. We were surprised to see so many people. This was a much larger event than we had anticipated.

We started by walking through the bike show. There wasn't a lot of bikes but it was nice. There were far more bikes in the parking lot, many of them nicer then those in the show. The races ran from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm. They consisted of flat track, chopper dirt drags and mini bikes. The flat track had different groups some were age groups (70 years and older, 60 years and older, 50 years and older) and they had a kids race, the youngest was 3. For awhile they had both the dirt track races and drag races gong at the same time. The drag races were really informal, race whatever bike you brought, no safety equipment required. The flag lady would jump up and wave the flag to start the drag race of two bikes at a time. I figured she had to be tired at the end. After the drags were done they set up a circle track for the mini bikes to go around. All the races were done on dirt and it was very dusty. We stayed cool because the bleachers were covered. During one of the heats (70 years and older) there was a wreck, one rider had to be placed on a stretcher and taken away by ambulance. Another wasn't moving for a long time but the paramedics got him on his feet and he was ok. Fortunately these races were organized and full safety gear was required. We watched the races for about an hour and a half. Then we walked through part of the swap meet. We left the event about 3:00 pm.

On the way home we stopped at Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers in Killeen. This was our first visit, we thought it would be similar to KFC, nope, they only sell chicken fingers, they come with a cold dipping sauce. Larry was disappointed they didn't come with nor could you get gravy. They were good. We were home by 6:00.

We watched YouTube videos.

I played the Daily Challenges of Solitaire and Mahjong before going to bed. While watching YouTube I played the event, which was Event: World Tour Mini of 10 games. It took me 49 minutes and 38 seconds, which put me in 18th place in my group. I played some Angry Birds.

Afterwards we watched a couple of episodes of Poirot. After Larry went to bed I watched Biscuit Eater on Disney. It was about to boys who trained a dog to be a great bird dog. It was a good movie. Afterwards I watched an episode of Hinterland. I ended up doing 28,000 steps, which put me in 4th place in my group.
