Doing This & That
I woke up before 7:00 and after having breakfast we went to town.
When we came from South Fork over to Gunnison we had to cross two mountain passes, on one of them Larry noticed the brakes were fading a bit and our tire pressure monitor indicated the front brakes was heating up a bit. He has lots of experience driving the Minnie in the mountains so he was being careful to stay in lower gears and use the brakes as sparingly as possible. Today he wanted to go into Gunnison and see if we could get the rear breaks adjusted. We would have tried to find a place to do this via the phone but without cell service that was not possible.
Going through Gunnison the other day we had noticed a couple of repair shops on the main highway so we headed there. We stopped at two different places that work on brakes but neither would work on RVs. Larry found a place on the web that said no job too small or large, we can do it all. He called them and they said they don’t work on RVs but H & H Towing does. Larry called them and the gentleman said they really are a towing company but they do work on RVs a little bit. So off to H & H Towing we went. The gentleman worked on the brakes for about an hour. He really wanted to remove the drums to look at the breaks but he was unable to get the drums off, he didn’t have the correct tools or knowledge. He finally gave up and just adjusted the brakes (which is all Larry wanted). When we move on we will be going over a difficult mountain pass so we will keep an eye on things.
Afterwards we parked at Walmart where we had a cell signal so I could make a couple of blog posts. We also walked to City Market and bought a couple of things. After putting the items away I made lunch. During lunch Larry read his e-mail and news stuff. Then we went back to the campground where we spent much of the day relaxing with a book.
Reading is fun
We didn’t do a hike this morning so I hadn’t gotten many steps in so in the afternoon I did eight laps around the campground which took me an hour and a half, in the evening I walked another seven laps for an hour and a half. By the end of the day I had done 26,335 steps.
