Thursday 7-30 Busy Day of Virtual Dancing

Square dancing virtually with friends

We started the day by going to town to pick up our mail at the UPS Store. While in town we stopped buy The Dollar Tree to pick up a few items we couldn't get at Walmart. On the way home we stopped at Jack 'n' Jill and bought a couple of donuts.

Today we attended four virtual square dances. The first dance was Dayle Hodge's weekly C1 dance at 11:00 am. We had 38 people zoomed in. Dayle cues and helps the dancers through each tip to make sure everyone gets through the tip. The third tip was a workshop tip where he walked us through Box Transfer in different positions. Today was his girlfriend, Cathy's birthday so we sang Happy Birthday to her. We had a great time dancing to Dayle.

The second dance was Joachim Ruhenbeck's C1/C2 dance. We attended the C1 dance, it started at 12:30 pm. We had 48 people zoomed in. Joachim is a very steady caller, if you spend too much time thinking about what went wrong you fall behind. The dance was challenging and fun. Joachim is the caller who sets up two cameras. We watch the back camera, which makes it easy for us to see where we should be when we fall behind. Joachim is a very good caller.

The third dance was Jeremy Butler's weekly A2/C1 dance at 6:00 pm. This week Jeremy called 4 A2 tips and 1 C2 tip. We had 40 people zoomed in. Jeremy did an outstanding job of calling the dance. He was very steady and challenging. We had a lot of fun.

The fourth dance was Loren Smith's weekly Plus dance at 8:00 pm. This week Loren called 4 tips. We had 41 people zoomed in. We did three of the tips because they were two couple tips. We didn't do the last tip because it was a four couples square. We had a great time.

In between the dances I worked out for a half hour with my Wii Fit and a half hour with Just Dance. I worked on my puzzle.

Larry received the re-build kit for the septic pump so he rebuilt our old pump. Now we have a backup pump.

I did my daily challenges and The Event: Pyramid Mini, which had 10 games. Today when ever I did a Pyramid games the points were doubled. It took me 54 minutes and 43 seconds, which put me in 27th place in my group.

Having fun working out

After Larry went to bed I continued watching the fifth season of Psych. I did 23,000 steps.

Wednesday 7-29 Just Having Fun

Smile and have fun

It was another hot day and we stayed indoors under the air conditioner. Last night Larry submitted our weekly grocery order via Walmart's home delivery site. They did have to substitute a couple of things, the items were the same except different brands. Our groceries arrived at 9:00. It's great getting our groceries delivered to the house because we don't have to go into the store.

Grocery shopping

After putting the groceries away I did my daily challenges and The Event: Two Game Tango Mini of 6 games, 3 games of Klondike and 3 games of Spider. It took me 17 minutes and 44 seconds, which put me 19th place in my group.

The new air pump for the septic arrived and Larry installed it this morning. It works fine and no more alarms going off. The rebuild kit for the old pump is still on its way.

We attended two virtual dances today. The first dance was Dayle Hodge's weekly A2 dance. We had 52 people zoomed in. Dayle made the dance challenging by putting us in different positions. When the dancers were having problem he walked us through the move multiple times to make sure everyone understood the move. During the third tip, which is a workshop Dayle called a lot of Pass and Roll Your Neighbors in different positions. The dance was a lot of fun. Dayle did an outstanding job of calling.

The second dance was to Doren McBroom C1 dance at 6:30. Doran invited Eric Henerlau to help him call the dance. The dance was very complex and we broke down a lot. We got frustrated so we only stayed 45 minutes. We weren't the only dancers having problems. Doran and Eric are both good callers but too complex for us.

In between the dances Larry built a frame for the basketball project. He couldn't use the machine for this, he had to do it the old fashioned way with an x-acto knife and some black foam board. It looks super.

  Framed

Side view of the frame

While Larry worked on making a frame I worked out for a half hour with my Wii Fit. I worked on my jigsaw puzzle.

After the second dance we watched an Amazon movie called Marvelous, which was based on a true story of Neil Baldwin. Neil Baldwin shrugged off his limitations and live an incredible life. No matter what problems Neil came about in life he was always positive. It was a great movie. Afterwards I started watching the fifth season of Psych. I did 26,000 steps.

Tuesday 7-28 Dancing and Working Out

What should we do about the squirrel?

Today we continued chasing a squirrel out of the bird feeder. The squirrel was bolder today, he didn't wait until the blinds were closed to get in the feeder. Every morning Larry opens the blinds in the living room and dining room. I slept in until 8:45 am and looked out the living room window. What do you think I saw? It was the squirrel enjoying eat the food out of the feeder. Larry scared it off. Afterwards he checked the food out, the squirrel had eaten all the nuts. The squirrel came back after lunch. I scared him off.

We attended two virtual dances. The first dance was Dayle Hodge's weekly Plus dance. This week Dayle is on vacation in Michigan but he's still going to do his dances. Dayle had 59 people signed in this morning. He called a lot of Cloverleaves from different positions. Some of the dancers were having problem, this included me so Dayle walked us through the move a few times. We had a super time dancing to Dayle and with the other dancers.

The second dance was with Don Moger at 6:00 pm, it was an A2 dance. Don Moger is out of Montreal. This was his first virtual dance. We had 80 people zoomed in. He did an excellent job. We had a lot of new dancers who had never used Zoom before so Don walked us through the moves. We had a great time dancing to Don.

In between the dances we did another project on the Cameo, which was a basketball. It had eight layers. Each layer has a frame, which made the layering easy. We layered the basketball using the foam inserts. The basketball came out outstanding.

Look at all the layers

I did my daily challenges and The Event: Tri Peaks Mini of 5 games. It was a special day so every Tri Peak games players played the points were doubled. It took me 9 minutes and 58 seconds, which put me in 9th place in my group.

I also worked out for an hour using my Gold's Gym program and Just Dance program. We watched YouTube videos.

Having fun working out

After the second dance we watched an Amazon movie called Another Mother's Son. It was base on Louisa Gould's life. It took place during World War II on a British, Jersey Island, where a woman named Lou took in an escaped Russian POW and hid him during the war. It was a very good movie. Then I finished watching the fourth season of Psych. I did 28,000 steps.

Monday 7-27 Squirrel in the Feeder

Chasing a squirrel out of the bird feeder

We had another beautiful day with the temperatures in the mid 90's.

Last night at about 1:30am the alarm on our septic system went off. The control box is mounted below our bedroom window so it was easy to hear. Larry got up and silenced the alarm and went back to bed. This morning he figured out that the air pump was not working and that caused the alarm. The original air pump lasted about 4.5 years, we bought a new one and it lasted less than two years. According to what Larry has read they normally last between 4 -7 years, in the south normally closer to 4 years due to the heat. Since we had two of the same brand fail in a fairly short period of time Larry ordered a different brand. He also took the failed pump apart and discovered the diaphragms were bad. He added a rebuild kit to his order so along with our new $300 pump he will repair our old pump for a backup. The good news is the septic will work fine without the air pump so at least we don't have to worry about it.

While Larry was working on the septic I did my daily challenges and The Event: Hard Road Mini of 5 games. It took me 1 hour, 9 minutes and 59 seconds, which put me in 26th place in my group.

We attended three virtual dances today. The first was a A2 dance called by Joachim Ruhenbeck from Germany. The dance was in two sessions, the first session was 12:30 to 1:30 and the second session was 2:00 to 3:00. The dance had 57 participants. The first hour was A1 and the second hour was A2. Joachim is a great caller. He called very fast and you have no time to think about what you did wrong because you will breakdown. Joachim had two cameras setup so dancers could see him and his wife dance from behind and from the front. This helped us a lot because you can see where you should be. At times by looking at the back camera you can catch up with the moves when you breakdown. We had a great time.

The second dance was Ett's weekly C1 Workshop at 6:30. She had 72 participants. She played around with four couple moves and put us in positions we weren't used to being in, which made it very challenging. We spent a lot of time broken down and getting frustrated so we only danced 45 minutes instead of the full hour.

The third dance was a half hour C1 dance with the Topcats Club in California. Joe Dehn called the dance tonight. The club is a C2/C3 club and meets every week. The club decided to do C1 dances for a half hour. Then take a half hour break and dance another half hour to C2 or C3. At the beginning of the dance Joe had internet problems but once the problem was solved it went very well. Joe called put us in weird position. We danced well and the dance was ok.

We dance in our living room and close the blinds otherwise the light coming in from the window makes us dark on the camera. Before the first dance I saw a squirrel on the back porch eating seeds that had fallen on the porch. I kept an eye on him to make sure he didn't get in the feeder. When the squirrel finished eating he left. After the first dance I opened the blinds and the squirrel was in the feeder enjoying the birdseed. Larry scared him and he jumped onto the railing and ran off. When the second dance came around I closed the blinds again. When I opened the blinds the squirrel was back in the feeder. Larry scared him off. He came back a little while later and tried to get in the feeder but he was unsuccessful. He knocked the hummingbird feeder over. We scared him off and he didn't come back after that. We'll continue watching for the squirrel.

In between the dances I did some housework. After the last dance Larry worked on getting our next project ready for the Cameo. Then I continued watching the fourth season of Psych. I ended up doing 23,000 steps.

Sunday 7-26 Fun Day of Dancing

Smile and have fun

We had a busy day dancing and having fun.

We started the day out by doing a couple projects using the Cameo. First we made a couple of easels to hold the finished projects. The second was making a paper flag. In order to do the Cameo projects Larry has to import the files and separate the layers. The flag project had eight layers. A couple of the layers didn't import correctly so Larry had to manually edit the files. To create the layer look we used a combination of glue and foam. It took us most of the day because we worked on the flag in between the four virtual dances we attended. The flag came out super.

The easels Larry made out of a poster board and paper

After lunch I did my daily challenges and The Event: Klondike Mini of 10 games. It took me 53 minutes and 46 seconds, which put me in 26th in my group.

We attended four virtual square dancing. The first dance was a C1/C2 with Lynn Webster at 11:00 am. She called two tips of C1 and two tips of C2. We danced the two C1 tips. The first tip was an easy two couple tip. The second tip was a little more complex because she added two more couples now and then to do some moves. We had 30 people participating in the Zoom. Lynn did a great job of calling. She cued us through the dance and walked us through moves we had problems with.

The second dance was Ett's weekly C Series dance. This week she called two C1 tips and two C2 tips. The dance was very complex and the dancers broke down a lot. It was a hard dance.

The third dance was a DBD Plus dance with Doren McBloom at 1:00. Doren did a great job of calling. He had 23 people participating in the dance. Doren called five tips. It was nice to dance and have fun.

The fourth dance was a A2/C1 dance with Loren Smith at 7:30. He invited a caller out of Toronto, Barrie Clasper. Loren called the first and third tip. The first tip was a two couple A2 tip and the third tip was a four couple A2 tip. We sat out the third tip. Barrie called the second and fourth tip. The second tip was a two couple A2 and the fourth tip was a two couple C1. Both Loren and Barrie did a great job of calling.

After the last dance we watched an episode of GizWiz. Then I continued watching the fourth season of Psych. I ended up doing 20,000 steps, which I missed my daily goal by 800 steps. I also missed my 175,000 challenge goal by 1500. I only did 173500 steps for the week.

Saturday 7-25 Super Saturday

We had a super day of having fun. It was overcast all day and by mid afternoon we had a small rain shower. We got over a half of inch of rain. I know this because our rain detector was activated so the sprinklers won't run. The temperature stayed in the mid 80's.

I started the day by doing my daily challenges and The Event: Easy Street Mini of 5 games. It took me 9 minutes and 10 seconds, which put me in 19th place in my group.

After lunch we continued playing on making layered pumpkins with the Cameo. We did two different pumpkins, each one had different colors of paper. The pumpkins had seven layers. It took us a while because the Cameo had to be adjusted now and then so it would cut correctly. We put the pumpkins together by gluing the first two layers and then we put foam spacers in between each layer. They came out excellent.

In the evening we watched an Amazon movie called Agatha Christie's The Witness for the Prosecution. It starred Kim Cattrall and Toby Jones. It was a mystery drama about a murder. It was a great movie until the end. Then I finished watching the third season of Psych and started the fourth season. I did 21,500 steps.

Friday 7-24 Pumpkin Project

Just having fun

We had a fun day.

We started the day out by going to the lake. While we were driving through Morgan Point to get to Rogers Park we saw a few deer. We saw a couple of does with two fawns each. It was a nice thing to see early in the morning. When we got to the ramp there were a lot of vehicles in the parking lot. There was very little wind but the lake was a little rough because of the jet skis and boat traffic. Larry drove the down the lake to find water that wasn't too rough. We decided to wake surf. When Larry was getting up he felt something pop in his side and he released the rope, he thinks he pulled a muscle. He had a similar problem a couple of years ago also caused by getting up on the wake surfer. He got back in the boat and I got ready and did a set of wake surfing. When I got finished we swam a little bit. We had a nice morning on the lake. I hope that Larry's muscle feels better tomorrow.

Wiping down the boat

After putting the boat in the garage we took the truck to town to fill it up with gas. On the way home we swung by Jack 'n' Jill Donuts to get a couple of donuts.

After lunch I did my daily challenges and The Event: Free Cell Mini of 10 games. It took me 1 hour, 16 minutes and 35 seconds, which put me in 17th place in my group. Today Microsoft Solitaire had a special day, it was called Fun Friday, where the points on any Free Cell people play will be doubled.

Afterwards Larry and I spent the rest of the afternoon working on a project on the Cameo. The project was making a pumpkin using paper. Larry showed me and explained how to use the Cameo. The pumpkin project has seven layers of paper. First thing we did was decide on the colors to use for each layer for the pumpkin. We used both card stock and regular paper. In order for the Cameo to cut the paper Larry had to adjust the blade to cut for both card stock and paper. Each time he did a layer he had to adjust the blade and did a practice cut to make sure that the blade cuts through the paper. After the layer was cut I did the weeding. The first layer was the hardest because it had a lot of detail. It was a fun project. We'll continue playing with the pumpkin using different colors.

In the evening we watched a documentary on Amazon called Every Little Step. It was about auditioning for the Chorus Line. It was very good. Then I continued watching the third season of Psych. I did 26,000 steps.

We had an outstanding day of having fun.

Thursday 7-23 Walmart Home Delivery

We had a wonderful day hanging around the house and having fun.

Since the coronavirus began we have been doing our weekly grocery shopping via Walmart and picking our order up using curbside service, it works out very well. Walmart also offers home delivery, for $98 a year you get unlimited deliveries to your front door, the order has to be a minimum of $35. They have a free fifteen day trial going on so we decided to give it a try. Last night we did our weekly grocery shopping online and asked for it to be delivered between 8:00 am and 9:00 am. When Larry chose home delivery the application automatically changed the order to the store location that was closer to us. When this happened some of the items on our list weren't available at this store. We had to substitute the items we could, which was ok. The order was delivered to us at 8:30. The driver placed all the items by our front door, rang the doorbell and left. After the order was delivered we also received a text message saying our order was delivered and asking if we wanted to tip the driver. They recommend 10% but you can tip whatever you feel like. It worked out great.

In the morning I did my daily challenges and The Event: World Tour Mini of 7 games. It took me 16 minutes and 21 seconds, which put in in 15th place in my group.

We attended three Virtual Dances. All three dances were weekly dances. The first dance was Dayle Hodge's C1 Dance at 11:00. We had 42 participants in the Zoom. We had a super time dancing to Dayle.

The second dance was Jeremy Butler's A2/C1 Dance at 6:00. Every week Jeremy makes the dance more challenging but fun. He puts us in different positions that we're not use to being in. He didn't cue much during the dance. We had 49 participants in the A2 and 34 people in the C1. We had fun dancing to Jeremy.

The third dance was Loren Smith's Plus Dance at 8:00. This week Loren invited Gary Smith to come and call one tip. Loren called three tips and Gary called the third tip. We had 43 participants in the Zoom. Loren tried something new this week. The plus level of square dancing his a call called Teacup Chain, he changed it up a little. The ladies chain three quarters and left turn thru with their partner. As the ladies chain three quarters the men move up a quarter. We continued doing this four times to complete going around the square. We had a great time dancing.

In between the dances we worked on learning more about layering vinyl graphics. Larry made some small modifications to the design and cut new pieces. Watching YouTube videos layering looks fairly easy but for us it is very time consuming, you cut each color separately and lay them on top of each other. We made another Micky Mouse sticker, it came out much better than yesterdays attempt.

The Micky on the left was from yesterday the Micky on the right was from today

New Micky Mouse sticker

I've been using a small lamp from the spare bedroom when I work on my puzzle so I can see the pieces better. Larry has been using it to weed his projects but he wanted more light so he ordered a LED Light. The led light puts out a lot more light than the lamp. The light is very nice.

The new LED Light for projects

I worked on my puzzle and worked out with Just Dance for a half hour.

After the last dance I started watching the third season of Psych. I did 28,000 steps.

Wednesday 7-22 Day of Dancing

We had a great day of having fun.

In the morning I did my daily challenges and The Event: Medium Mayhem of 15 games. Today the points in the event were doubled. It took me 56 minutes and 1 second, which put me in 25th place in my group.

We attended three virtual dances. The first dance was A2 at 11:00 with Dayle Hodge. Dayle called a little faster than normal and put us in more complex positions. Dayle cued us throughout the dance and when we had problems he walked us through the move. We had a great time.

The second dance was at 1:00, which was Ett's C1 Workshop/Dance. She took us through the calls she went over on Monday.

The third dance was at 6:30. The dance was C1 to Doran McBroom and Bill Harrison and was for an hour and a half. This was the first time we danced to Doran. The dance was very hard and the dancers broke down a lot. In between the tips dancers gave some feedback. At the end of the dance Doran said he would have the sequences shorter and not as complex the next dance. We had a nice time.

In between the dances I worked on my puzzle and Larry continued playing with the Cameo. Today he played with layering vinyl. He found a picture of Mickey Mouse on the internet and using the program that came with the Cameo he separated each color, then he cut each color separately and layered them together. Learning and doing this was difficult. The eyes are not perfect but he will work on it a bit more. The project came out good.

Micky Mouse

In the evening we finished watching the 21st season of Midsomer Murders. Then I continued watching the second season of Psych. I ended up doing 23,000 steps, which put me in third place in my group.

Tuesday 7-21 Happy Tuesday

We had a relaxing Tuesday. The temperature didn't get out of the low 90's.

Larry much of the day learning more about the Cameo. He made a sticker for the back window of the Equinox. The sticker says I love virtual square dancing. It came out excellent and is very crisp on the window. While Larry worked on the sticker I slept.

Sticker made by Larry using the Cameo

At 11:00 we attended Dayle Hodge's weekly plus virtual square dance. It is always a pleasure to dance with him. He is very consistent in his calling and cues when necessary. Today he worked on Peel Off in different positions. At times it was very complex but when he walked through the call it became easier. He called four tips. The third tip was like a workshop. The fourth tip he did a singing call. We danced with 40 other virtual dancers. We had a super time.

After lunch I did my daily challenges and The Event: Two Game Tango Mini of 3 Spider games and 3 Tri Peaks games. It took me 12 minutes and 52 seconds, which put me in 17th place in my group.

Then I worked out for a half hour using my Wii Fit and a half hour using Gold's Gym. It had been a week since I worked out using my Wii Fit. Before I could do the Gold's Gym workout Larry had to reset one of my hand controllers. The last time I used the Wii Fit I had to change the batteries in one of the controllers and it wouldn't work. I thought maybe the controller was broken so I put the batteries in a backup controller. That controller wouldn't work. I cried to Larry about it so he got the operating manual out. Then he reset the controller, that solved the problem. Now, I'll have to find something else to cry about. I had a great workout.

In the evening we watched an episode of Midsomer Murders. I continued watching the second season of Psych. I did 28,000 steps.

Monday 7-20 Back on the Lake Belton

Boating on Lake Belton

We had a beautiful day with a lot of sunshine. It was hot, the temperature got up to 99 degrees.

We started the day out by going to Lake Belton. It has been a week since we have been there. We were on the lake by 9:00. There was a little breeze but the lake was very nice. The only wakes we had were from boats going up and down the lake. We saw fishermen and people wake boarding. While there we did a set of wake boarding and air chairing. We had a super morning on the lake.

After lunch I did my daily challenges and The Event: World Tour Mini of 10 games. Microsoft Solitaire did a special day today called Monday Fun Day, where players who do the daily challenges and the event get double the points. It took me 28 minutes to complete the event which put me in 10th place in my group.

I did some computer games and took a nap.

Larry continued playing with the Cameo machine. He did some reading on layering designs, where the design has multiple layers to cut out to make the design. Then he moved on to another type of design, it was creating a pop up card. He surprised me by making me a great card. That was his project today.

The inside of the card. I love you too Larry

While Larry worked on the card I worked on my puzzle. Later on we watched YouTube videos.

In the evening we attended Ett McAtee's weekly C1 Workshop/Dance. We went over a couple more C1 calls. We had a good time.

After the dance we watched an episode of Midsomer Murders. Then I started watching the second season of Psych. I did 27,000 steps, which put me in fourth place in my group.

Sunday 7-19 Fun Day

Just having fun

We had a fun day.

Larry spent a large part of the day playing and learning more about our Cameo machine. He learned how to weed the design, this is removing the extra paper, vinyl or other material from the design. He made labels and a Christmas ornament. The machine is very fast it took less than five minutes for the Cameo to cut the designs. The weeding takes the longest. The more Larry weeds the more he learns on how to make it easier, the hummingbird took a bit because of the really thin points. Larry put the label on the bottle and it looks super. As he was browsing the internet for projects he came across an ornament design, he found a Cinderella  coach to put in the middle. The entire ornament is made out of cardstock paper. The ornament came out excellent.

The projects Larry made

While Larry was working on his projects I worked on my puzzle. I also did my daily challenges and The Event: Two Game Tango Mini 5 games of Free Cell and 5 games of Tri Peak. It took me 2 hours, 26 minutes and 49 seconds, which put me in 12th place in my group. It took me so long because I got stuck on the Expert game in the Free Cell.

In the afternoon I worked out using Fitnation, I did the eighth episode. This episode was called Total Body Workout. It was for 20 minutes and now I have completed all the episodes. Afterwards I continued my workout by doing the third episode on 21 Day Transformation. It was At Home Yoga Stretch for 17 minutes. I had a great workout.

Working Out

We watched YouTube videos.

In the evening we attended Loren Smith's weekly A2/C1 dance. The schedule was three tips of A2, we sat out the third tip because it was a four couple tip. The last tip of the evening was C1. We had a super time.

After the dance we started watching the 21st season of Midsomer Murders. Then I finished watching the first season of Psych. I ended up doing 22,000 steps, which put me in third place in my group.

Saturday 7-18 A New Toy

Smile and be happy

After a week of having the temperature in the 100's, we had a break, today it didn't get out of the high 90's. We had a super day.

Larry started the day out by going to Walmart at 7:00am to pick up our groceries. They were out of stock on two items. On the way home he swung by Jack 'n' Jill Donuts to buy us a couple of donuts. While he was gone I was still sleeping.

By the time I woke up our groceries were put away and Larry had finished eating. After breakfast I did more daily challenges and The Event: Spider Mini of 5 games. I had a nice surprise from Microsoft, every spider game I solved my points were doubled. It took me 14 minutes and 23 seconds, which put me in 10th place in my group.

We're out of projects to do and Larry is looking for some kind of new hobby. He decided to buy a Silhouette Cameo 4. He placed an order a week ago and while waiting for it to arrive he ordered some supplies he knew he would need, they arrived a few days ago. The actual Cameo 4 arrived after lunch today. The Cameo 4 is a desktop cutting machine used to cut different designs, you can design your own or download them from the internet, some are free some you purchase. The machine doesn't come with any directions but you can watch YouTube videos or read about how to use the machine on the web. It was easy to setup. Once Larry had the machine setup he played with it. He cut a design on cardstock paper and adhesive vinyl, they came out great. The software to control the machine is very powerful and is a bit difficult to learn. Tomorrow we'll play more with the machine to learn more about the Cameo 4.

The first cut Larry did using cardstock paper

The same design on adhesive vinyl

We attended two virtual dances. The first dance was at 1:00 to 2:30 dancing C1 to Ett and Di Green from England. Both Ett and Di called 3 tips. The first tip was a little tough for me I'm not sure why. I think maybe it was because Di had a strong accent and the music was too loud. The second tip Di called was a lot better. I think as the dance went on I got better. We had 57 people for the dance. Even though I made mistakes I still had a great time. Ett and Di did a good job of calling.

The second dance was at 4:00 to 5:00 dancing plus to David Mee and Mike Seastrom. David and Mike called five tips together. Four tips were Plus and the last tip was A2. We had 52 people in the Plus and 48 in the A2. David and Mike did a super job of calling the dance and we had a great time.

In the evening we finished watching the 20th season of Midsomer Murders. Then I continued watching the first season of Psych. I did 26,000 steps, which put me in third place in my group.
