Tuesday 10-10-23 Death Valley RV Park

Back in Nevada

We started the day out with the temperature in the low 40's at Mammoth Lakes, CA. We ended the day with the temperature in the mid 80's in Beatty Nevada.

I woke up at 6:00 this morning and started to get the Minnie ready to go. Larry had gotten up a few minutes earlier. We wanted to get an early start because the wind was suppose to come up. The Minnie can be very difficult to handle when the wind is a blowing.

We had a quick breakfast and we were on the road by 6:40. Our next destination was only 200 miles away at Death Valley RV Park in Beatty, Nevada. We drove a four lane divided highway before reaching a narrow 134 mile two lane highway that took us through and over mountain ranges. It was a beautiful and scenic highway. Lots of sharp turns and mountain areas to negotiate. We saw a lot of desert scenery with the mountains in the background. The desert had some Joshua trees. We drove through open range area. When we got into Nevada I was dozing off and Larry woke me to show me some wild burros.

The highway in California was very good but when we got to Nevada it changed. Nevada had just finished resurfacing the road but they apparently used tar and gravel, while it was new it was a bit rough and felt slippery to drive on, there were even signs warning it was slippery. We arrived at Death Valley RV Park around 12:30.

Burros walking through the park

As we were pulling in there were four wild burros walking through the park. Larry went in the office to get a site and the lady said they come through all the time. She also told Larry he was in luck because they only had one site left. We found our site and Larry plugged the Minnie in. The site was full hook-ups for $35 dollar a night. Once we were setup we had lunch.

The park is very well maintain but has dirt roads. They have restrooms with showers. After lunch we went over and took a shower. The ladies restroom had two private stalls with a door on each one, two big shower stalls and a handicap stall with a shower and toilet. They were very clean and the showers were good.

There was no where to walk so we spent the rest of the day relaxing with a book.

We had a great day.

  1. If you get the chance go to Rhyolite ghost town, very interesting. And check out the statues of Last Supper just before Rhyolite.

    1. Hi Carol: Unfortunately we missed that. By the time we got your comment we had already left Beatty. Maybe we will get back this way and see them. Thanks for letting us know!
