Tuesday 10-17-23 Iraan City RV Park The Landing

Sunrise in Texas

We slept with the fan going. We thought we would have to get up and turn it off. They predicted it was going to get into the 50's but it only got to 64 degrees. We slept very well.

We woke up at 5:30 so we would be ready to go by 6:00. We got dressed and then got the Minnie ready to go. Once everything was secure we had a quick breakfast. Then Larry unplugged us and I put in the step. We were on the road by 6:00.

We started in New Mexico but 1/2 mile down the road and across the railroad tracks we were back in Texas. Today Larry drove 325 miles. We started on I10 going through El Paso. The traffic wasn't bad but it took us a half hour to get through the city because it was so big. The drive was through West Texas so I slept most of the way. There wasn't much to see. We saw mainly flat desert scenery. Occasionally we saw a farm field and oil pumps. We saw windmills on the mountains. We stopped in Van Horn to get gas. When we got to Fort Stockton we stopped at Walmart to pick up a few things and had lunch.

After lunch we got back on I10. We had another 60 miles to get to our destination. The last 20 miles were on highway 190. It was a two lane highway with a little shoulder. We got to our destination about 2:00. We filled the Minnie with gas so we don't have to do it in the morning.

Our destination was Iraan. The city has three rv parks at $15.00 a night with full hook-ups. They tend to be filled with permanent oil field workers. The first two parks were full. The third, which was The Landing had one spot available. We were glad we had stopped this early.

Larry plugged us in. Afterwards we walked over to the fee area and paid for the night. It's not a fancy place and the roads are gravel but it a great place to stay overnight. It doesn't have a bathroom but the sites are full hook-ups. We spent the rest of the day reading.

As we were relaxing in the evening we saw a herd of six deer walk through the park. This was the most wildlife we seen at one time besides the elk in Hoh Campground during our trip.
