Friday 10-13-23 North Ranch Escapee's RV Park in Arizona

Arizona

We had two super days in Las Vegas now it's time to move on.

We got up with the low of 59 degrees in Las Vegas, NV and the high was 72 degrees in Congress, AZ. We started the day out with the sunrise in Nevada and ended the day with the sunset in Arizona.

I got up at 6:00 and got dressed. Then we got the Minnie ready to go because we wanted to miss rush hour. After everything was securely down we had a quick breakfast. Then Larry unplugged us and I put the step in. We were on the road by 6:30. It was already busy on the highway. It took us over a half hour to get out of Las Vegas because of construction and a couple of accidents. It wouldn't have been that bad if people would have drove better. Some people would change lanes and force themselves back into traffic when the lane ended. At the accidents some people followed the rescue vehicles and forced themselves over. Good thing we weren't in any hurry. I was glad Larry was driving. Once out of Las Vegas it went very smoothly.

Today Larry drove 230 miles. We mainly drove divided highways. The scenery was desert and mountain ranges. The air was very clear today you can see the mountains. We stopped a few times to use the restroom and stretch our legs. I dozed off a little bit. We drove 24 miles past Las Vegas and entered into Arizona. We drove by Hover Dam and Lake Mead. Lake Mead was very low. Some places the mountains were very picturesque. We didn't see any wildlife but we did see saguaros. We saw some nice bridges over the highway.

The roads in Arizona have been terrible. The Hwy from Las Vegas to Kingman was very rough. From Kingman to the turnoff for Hwy 89 was not too bad but certainly not smooth. Areas of hwy 89 were so rough Larry had to drive 45 mph. Where it was divided he had to drive in the left lane because it was smoother. In the two lane areas he knew some drivers were probably upset, due to him going so slow traffic would back up behind us until we got to a passing lane. He simply couldn't drive any faster without beating the Minnie up more than he had to. There weren't any shoulders either. He was happy when he finally got to our destination.

Our destination was North Ranch Escapee RV Park in Congress AZ. This was the first time we ever stayed in an Escapee RV Park. We arrived here at 11:30. Larry checked in and our site was just across the street from the office and the bathrooms. They have bicycles for the public to use and a recreation center for you to play cards and games with other people staying or living there. It's an older place and needs some maintenance. The decor in front of the office was very cute. They have a fountain in a shape of an old water pump, an old saddle on the porch post, a few rocking chairs on the porch and cactus. On the other side they had a totem pole made out of tea cups, wreath and truck. On the porch there was a boot cleaning station. On the side of the office there was a fountain with a fish in it, cactus and a gnome.

After checking on we backed the Minnie in it's spot and Larry plugged us in for the night. He also dumped the tanks and filled the Minnie up with water. There is no hiking and it was very dusty so we just relaxed with a book under the air conditioner. It's an ok place to stay for the night. It's in the middle of nowhere.
