Monday 10-16-23 Leaving Tucson

Arizona

We had a two great days in Tucson visiting with family. It cooled off last night to 70 degrees. We woke up about 5:30 so we could be on the road by 6:00. We wanted to beat rush hour.

We got the Minnie ready and then had a quick breakfast. Larry unplugged the Shirley's extension cord and put it in her Arizona room. I put the step up and we were on the road by 6:00.

Larry drove 325 miles. We took I10 the entire way. We started in Arizona, drove through New Mexico, into Texas and then back into New Mexico. As Larry drove I slept most of the way. We saw a lot of desert, mountain ranges and a few dead coyotes on the highway. We drove through Dragoon Canyon, where we saw a lot of beautiful rock formations. When we crossed the New Mexico stateline the time changed and we lost an hour. We stopped in Deming for gas and to have lunch.

Texas

Larry had planned to stay overnight in Las Cruces but during lunch he changed his mind. He was thinking about going on through El Paso but he found that the Sunland Park Race Track & Casino had RV parking with power. It was located just before El Paso which should make it a bit easier to get through the city early in the morning. I can also do a little more gambling. That's whats nice when you don't have reservations, you can change your mind.

The location of the casino was a little weird because we drove into Texas for about 10 miles. Then we turned on the casino road. When we got to the casino we were back in New Mexico. We got to the casino by 2:30. We found a space for the Minnie and plugged in. Then we walked over to the casino and checked in with security and pay for the night. There are eight spaces for RVs and it works on first come first serve. The gentleman, who checked us in was very nice. Security people in the casino were also nice and opened the door for you. Once we paid we walked through the casino. The casino was decorated for Halloween. They had a great looking witch display. Then we went back to the Minnie.

The casino is very clean, it has a non-smoking section and a smoking section. Both are about the same size. There is also a horse race track located at the casino. No racing tonight. They have a small motel. Across the street there is an amusement park.

After relaxing I went over and gambled for an hour before dinner. After dinner I went back and gambled for another hour. I ended up giving the casino $20. Even though I didn't win any money I still had fun.
