Doing Little Projects Around the House |
It was a beautiful day. It started out cool so Larry decided to do a boat project. The last time we took the boat out on the lake Larry noticed the speedometer didn't work. Who knows how long it hasn't worked. We have a Perfect Pass cruise control that controls the speed of the boat, it has a digital speedometer built in so we don't really look at the original speedometer. He blew out the hoses and the pitot tubes on the back of the boat and he got some stuff out of them. He asked me to get in the boat and see if the speedometer moved when he blew air in the hoses, it didn't. Then he climbed in the boat and removed the instrument panel cover. He cleaned the connections on the speedometer and blew air through the hose again and it still didn't work. Our boat originally came with two speedometers but when he installed the Perfect Pass he had to remove one. He unhooked the speedometer that was not working and plugged the one in that he had removed, that speedometer worked. He was one happy guy considering if this didn't work he would have had to replace a control box under the dash that would have cost over $400.00 to purchase.
The next project was the Minnie windshield. The other day we worked on fixing a crack and today Larry decided to work on a star that has been in the windshield since we bought the Minnie over ten years ago. He used the 3M kit we had bought. I didn't have to help him because he could reach the star by reaching around the door. Before doing the project he read the directions. The other day he had read some reviews on the 3M kit and remembered some of the problems people had. One problem was that some people cracked the windshield when they used the tool. So he was very careful not to tighten the tool too tight. Another problem people had was they said the resin didn't cure. He remembered when he used the Rain-x kit on the crack the directions said put the strips of plastic with a little resin on them on the crack this will help the curing process. So he used the strips on the star even though the 3M kit directions did not mention using them. Later on he removed the strips and everything was cured correctly. It didn't get rid of the star completely but it looks a lot better, then again the star was over ten years old and they tell you that the longer you wait to do the repair the less successful it will be, over time dirt works its way into the damage and this affects the repair.
The final project was playing with the Q-see Security Camera System. Over the last few days Larry has spent many hours working with and understanding the system, he really likes it but he has found one of the backup programs seems to have a problem, he has figured out how to work around it but he decided to call the the help desk and see if they have a better solution. Found out they are only open Monday through Friday. He will call them on Monday.
