Camping at Jim Hogg Park at Lake Georgetown
We have returned. I am sorry that I was unable to blog while we were gone but there was no internet access in the campground and since we were only going to be gone for a few days we did not activate our hotspot. The weather here in Central Texas has been gorgeous and it feels like springtime. The plants are starting to bloom and trees are getting their leaves back. The live oaks are losing their old leaves and replacing them with the new leaves. The temperatures are in the 70’s and high 60’s, perfect camping weather. We haven’t done any local camping in the last few years. Before we retired we camped at the state parks, Corp of Engineers parks and some county parks. One of the Corp parks we camped at a lot was Jim Hogg, it is one of two campgrounds located on Lake Georgetown, the other being Cedar Breaks. Lake Georgetown has a hike and bike trail that is 25 miles long and goes all the way around the lake. We like to hike and the Corp parks are always very nice so that’s why we like going to Lake Georgetown.

Tuesday March 1. We loaded the Minnie with clothing, food and everything we needed for our camping trip. We weren’t sure how long we were going to be gone so we loaded enough stuff for five days. Once the Minnie was loaded we loaded Flo and away we went. Lake Georgetown is not very far, took about an hour and we arrived at 12:30. We stopped at the gate house to check in, the host gave us a map and a list of available sites and how long they were available for, he told us to drive around and pick a couple of sites we liked in case one of them became unavailable. With the new reservation system people can reserve sites online immediately so by the time you get back to the gate house your site may no longer be available. On the off season at Jim Hogg they usually close one of the two camping loops but this year they left both open. Also during the off season people can stay as long as they want but today started the on season so some of the people may have to move. We found a couple sites we liked and then went back, we were in luck, our first choice was available for three nights. After checking in we setup the Minnie and then Larry barbecued hot dogs for lunch.
In the afternoon Flo wanted to go for a walk. I knew that if we walked very far she would be tried and her hips would be in pain but I let her talk me into doing the whole loop. We were almost back to the site when her hips gave out. She picked herself up and continued on. When we got back to the site she was limping and she laid down in the shade. She relaxed the rest of the day. Larry and I stayed outside with her the whole afternoon and read books. I finished another Cork O’Connor book called Mercy Falls.

Larry barbecued cheeseburgers for dinner and we had baked beans to go with them. After dinner Larry and I went for a walk to the boat ramp. When we were there we saw a fisherman putting his boat in. He was with another couple and they were having problems starting his boat. By the time we left the boat was trying to start but we have no idea if he ever got it running. When we got back to Flo I took her for a little walk. This time I made sure we didn’t go far considering she was still in pain.
