Kar Kaddy by Demco |
We have been camping with the Minnie for over 10 years and there have been a few times that it would have been nice to have a car with us. A few weeks ago when we went to the Rio Grande Valley it simply was not possible to drive the RV to every dance so for the two weeks we were there we rented a car. Over the years Larry has been done a lot of research on towing a car but he simply didn't think it was worth it. He also talked with people that towed and many of them said they didn't tow that often, they said it was a pain to load and unload the car, you can not back up your RV when you are towing and for the little they really needed a car it was easier just to rent. Even with all that Larry has decided to give it a try using a tow dolly. He researched them thoroughly and figured out exactly which one he wanted and he stating watching Craigslist for a used one, by buying a used one it would be much less expensive and if we decide we don't need it we can sell it to someone else and not loose much money. Yesterday afternoon one showed up in Lakeway. We decided not to go square dancing with the Killeen Kickers and go get the dolly. In order to get it home we had to drive the truck so Flo had to stay home. It took us a couple of hours to get there, we had to stop and get money and we had to go through Austin during rush hour on a Friday night. When we got there the dolly was in excellent condition so we bought it. Larry said it towed great.

Smoking the brisket |
Do you remember the other day when I wrote that Larry played with apple pellets for smoking meat? Well, this morning Larry woke up early and started the pellets so we could smoke a brisket. We smoked the brisket for a bit over ten hours. We had to check once in awhile to make sure that the temperature was right and to make sure that the pellets were still smoking. Part way through the pellets burned out so Larry added some more. After removing the brisket from the grill and letting is sit we discovered it was a bit over cooked, it was not ruined and it made wonderful sandwiches. Our first brisket was cooked perfectly but had no flavor, this one tasted smoky and you could taste the seasoning but was over done. We have more brisket and more pellets and we are not giving up.

Reading directions to loosen the straps |
While the brisket was smoking Larry and I played with the new car dolly. Larry had the manual so he had directions on how to load and unload the car. We hooked the dolly on the truck, put the ramps down and loaded the car on the dolly, next step was strapping the car on the dolly. Once the car was on the dolly Larry and I went for a ride. While driving around we stopped at HEB, Papa Murphy's Pizza and then the UPS Store to pick up our mail. When we got home we put the groceries away and unloaded the car. It took awhile to unload because we couldn't figure out how to get the straps loose. We read the directions but we couldn't figure it out. Our neighbor across the road Bobby came out and said hello to us, we visited with him about an hour. While visiting with Bobby, Larry and Bobby
figured out how to release the straps. Then we unloaded the car. We had a great time playing and learning about the dolly.
After a long day in the evening we just relaxed. We had a very exciting day.
