Sunday 5-5-19 Louise's New Lawn Mower

Visiting Louise

We started the day out by going to Round Rock. Larry called Louise the other day and she told him that the carburetor on her lawn mower was falling off. She said it probably wasn't worth fixing and maybe she should buy a new one. She told him that she wanted another self propelled mower but she wanted an electric starter. That started him off on researching mowers.

This morning we loaded our lawn mower along with Larry's small tool box into the back of the truck and headed to Louise's. We took our lawn mower just in case he couldn't fix hers and she could mow her lawn. Larry screwed the carburetor back on and got the mower running but it didn't sound good, along with that the wheels were shot and wobbly and the poor old thing is burning oil. He looked on the tag and found out that the mower was nineteen years old. She thought abought it and decided it wasn't worth fixing. She decided she was better off to just buy a new one. They went to the computer and Larry showed her the electric start mowers he had found. Mowers are expensive these days and electric start mowers are really expensive. She decided to get the Honda, we like ours and they also had the best reviews. One of the reviews was from a 71 year old woman who loved her new mower, a number of the reviews were from people getting on in years and they all loved the electric start.

The website said The Home Depot in Pflugerville had four of them in stock. When we got to Pflugerville we looked around and couldn't find them. We even had a couple of employees helping us. One of them looked all over the store and couldn't find them. He called The Home Depot in Georgetown and they said they had four of them, he asked them to physically go check since the system had indicated they also had four in stock. They located one and pulled it for us. When we got to Georgetown the lawn mower was waiting for us at Customer Service so we were in and out in a few minutes.

When we got back to Louise's house Larry assembled the mower and showed her how to work it because it was different from her old one. The new one has an electric starter and rear wheel drive, her old one was front wheel drive. Larry tried it out first just to make sure it worked properly, then it was Louise's turn. She finished mowing most of her front yard and then I got to finish it up. The new mower came with a bag and a switch where you can either bag the grass or mulch. We thought it was on mulch but it had slipped over to bag so it was hard to maneuver because the bag got full. It had rained two days ago and the grass was still wet. Larry emptied the bag and then made sure the switch had popped into the mulch setting. After the mower was running and Louise was comfortable with it we said good-bye to her and Alice. We didn't get back to the house until after 5:00. It was a long day.

In the evening we watched a movie on Amazon called Woman Walks Ahead. It was based on a true story about Catherine Weldon, a portrait painter from Brooklyn in 1890s. She traveled to Dakota to paint a portrait of Sitting Bull. It was a good movie. Afterwards I finished the fourth season of Wire In The Blood.
