54th Texas State Festival
Saturday 6/18/2016
Today was actually the 54th Annual Texas State Square & Round Dance Festival. Before driving to the convention center we walked over to JB’s Café to have breakfast with other square dancers staying in the RV Park. This mornings breakfast was a buffet style. They had scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage patties, toast, biscuit and gravy, cereal and cinnamon rolls, they also had apple juice, orange juice, milk and coffee. There was dancing all morning, afternoon and night and they had vendors selling products, the Chisholm Hall was for Mainstream, McLennan 208 & 209 was for Plus, McLennan 207 was for Teen and Brazos North was for Round Dancing. The dancing started in the morning at 9:30 to 12:00 and then we had a hour and a half lunch break. There was a fashion show at 1:00 to 2:00, we attended it the first year we danced. The dancing resumed at 1:30 to 4:30 in the afternoon. They rotated the callers in and out of the rooms at fifteen minutes intervals, everything ran very smoothly. We danced to almost all of of the callers. We were still tried from yesterdays events so we sat out a couple of tips each session during the day. When it was time for lunch we went to lunch with friends. We had a great lunch at Jake’s. Larry and I shared a cheese burger and fries, while the rest had salads. We had another super day of dancing. We had seven squares both sessions. When we got home Flo was laying on the floor waiting for us. I took her for a walk and then I heated up the rest of the enchiladas for dinner.

We relaxed for a couple of hours before we went back to the convention center for an evening of more Plus square dancing. This evening it was setup pretty much the same as this morning except the first tip of the dance started in the Chisholm at 7:20 and the last hour of the dance everyone came back into the Chisholm room to dance Mainstream for the rest of the dance. There was a round dance in between each square dance tip. We danced another three hours at night. There was a half hour left of the dance when we decided to call it a night. We danced with people we hadn’t danced with in a long time and we danced to callers we hadn’t danced to before. In the evenings when we went dancing we dressed up. We’re known for the hats, we try to wear a different hat every session. We were exhausted but had a super time.
