Ready to Begin Our Adventure
Thursday 6/16/2016
In the morning I vacuumed the house and finished getting the Minnie ready. I finished a bit early so we watched a few YouTube music videos of Stevie Ray Vaughan. Since it was only 60 miles and the festival didn’t start until 7:00 we we didn’t leave the house until noon. Before leaving we loaded the car onto the dolly. Larry is getting good at this so it didn’t take as long as the last time. We decided to stay at the I35 RV Park and Resort. We stayed there last year and it was a great place to stay at. We arrived around 1:30 and checked it. It cost $30.00 a night which isn’t bad at all. It has a swimming pool, spa, workout room and free breakfast. Once we setup I took Flo for a walk. After the walk we had time to kill so I did some Sudoku and Larry read. For dinner we had the noodle casserole I had prepared in advance. After dinner we got read to go to the dance.
Round Dancing to Wayne Weston Cueing
Our friends Square Dancing during the Trails End Dance
The dance started out with Pre-Rounds at 7:00 and the actual dance started at 7:30. Larry and I both counted 20 squares, which is great for a Thursday night dance. We sat out one tip to rest. The callers were Brad Caldwell, Wade Driver, K.O. Jeanes and Wayne Weston. Wayne filled in for Michele Vieira for the rounds. After the dance they had a half hour of plus dancing. The after party tonight was Caller Idol, they were raising money for the Texas State Callers’ Association Lesson Grant Fund. If your club is going to have square dance lessons it can apply to get some money to help pay for the lessons. This was the third time the festival had Caller Idol. The first two times Brad Caldwell won but tonight he was the mc so he didn’t participate. This year three callers (Wade Driver, K.O. Jeanes and Wayne Weston) participated. Each caller sings two songs and the audience votes on their performances by putting quarters in a bucket if they like the caller. The winner tonight was K.O. The entertainment was fun. We had a super time dancing and hanging out with our friends.
