We’re Back Home

It was so noisy at the Walmart in Sweetwater that we had trouble sleeping so about 1:00 in the morning we moved to the Walmart in Abilene. Abilene is 40 miles from Sweetwater. The Walmart was farther away from the highway so it was a lot quieter. We woke up at 7 and got ready to continue to the house. Abilene is 240 miles away from Belton, we were home by noon which was great. I worked all afternoon getting things out of the Minnie and doing some laundry while Larry got everything hooked up in the house. Flo kept me company outside while I was working in the Minnie, she was afraid we were going somewhere and she didn’t want to be left behind. We had a super time on our trip.

We were on the road for 45 days and drove 3375 miles. We camped in Texas for 3 nights, Colorado for 20 nights and New Mexico for 22 nights. We didn’t start out planning to have a square dancing trip but it kind of ended up being one. We spent two weeks at Fun Valley in South Fork Colorado dancing to Brad Caldwell. The first week Brad called with Bear Miller and the second week Brad called with Wade Driver. We met a lot of wonderful folks and got to know folks we knew a lot better. While there our new friends asked us to go to Red River for a three days event dancing to Hunter Keller and Jerry Gilbreath. The third square dancing event was in Albuquerque dancing to Mike Sikorsky. We had a great time at the dances. During the two weeks in Fun Valley I had fun playing Polish horseshoes and betting on the horses. While in Colorado we camped at Big Meadow Campground in the Rio Grande National Forest for a night. We camped at three campgrounds (Junction Creek, Haviland Lake and Vallecito) in San Juan National Forest for five nights. We stayed at Sky Ute Casino and RV Park, where Larry and I went for a swim.

While in New Mexico we camped in five state parks El Vado Lake for 3 nights, Heron Lake for 1 night, Blue Water for 1 night, Villanueva for 1 night and Manzano Mountains for 2 nights. We stayed at two casinos Buffalo Thunder and Sandia, where I did a little gambling. We camped in the Albuquerque Square Dance Center parking lot for the night and danced with the club. We stayed at the Red River RV Park for three nights while dancing to Hunter and Jerry. We camped in three National Monuments, Wild River for three nights at two campgrounds Montoso and Rio Grande, El Malpais for a night and El Morro for a night. We stayed two nights in Santa Fe National Forest at Field Tract and Jacks Creek Campgrounds. We stayed one night in a Big K parking lot. We toured The Albuquerque Museum and walked through Old Town shops in Albuquerque. We did a couple of hikes while we were in New Mexico. We attended the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, which was outstanding.

At the beginning of our trip we camped in Throckmorton RV Park for a night. On the way home we stayed in the Walmart parking lot in Abilene. It’s always great to travel around the county, seeing marvelous places and things and meeting folks but after awhile you just want to be home. Life Is Good!!!!!
