Thursday 6-14 Weekly Chores

Happy Flag Day

The 14th of June is Flag Day to celebrate the adoption of the United States flag in 1777 and the Army celebrates its birthdays.

I did my weekly cleaning, vacuumed the house and mopped the floors. While I was doing my chores Larry worked on a couple of small projects in his workroom. He also played with the Amazon Fire Tablet and I worked on my puzzle.

In the evening Larry and Patricia came to the house and we all went to Sun City for our weekly Thursday dance. We had three squares and two extra couples. We danced to very challenging tapes and had a super time.  

Wednesday 6-13 New Toy

We had a hot day

It officially got to 100 degrees today. I was glad we were in the house under the air conditioner. 

Larry likes keeping up on new technology. Yesterday at the dentist office they had installed Amazon Alexa Shows in the patient rooms and Larry was able to play with it and listen to it, he was really impressed, when we got home he started doing research. The Echo Show is on sale for Fathers Day but for what it does it is still too expensive. While researching it via forums and YouTube Larry discovered that the Amazon Fire Tablets would do everything the Show would do, the sound is not as good but if that is a problem it can be fixed with speakers. The tablets were also on sale, Larry decided to purchase a Fire HD 8, it will do all the same commands as the Alexa devices and it has a screen to display timers, music, weather, and everything else you can do via a tablet and almost all of it can be done via voice commands. It was on sale through Amazon for 60% less than the price of a Show. He also found Best Buy had one in stock for the same price. He ordered it online and when the store opened we were there to pick it up. When we got home I opened the package. It was very well packaged and came with a power adapter and cable. It is a bit bigger than our old tablet and heavier.

The Fire HD8 Tablet is an Amazon device and since Amazon and Google don't play nice with each other it was not able to use Apps. from the Google's Play store. By watching YouTube videos Larry was able to figure out how to get the Google Play Store to work. He can now download and install the Apps. he uses on our other tablet and phone. Larry likes figuring things out. He spent the entire day getting it setup and playing with it. The Fire works great.

In the evening we watched the Wonder Woman dvd we have. Then I worked out for a half hour with Just Dance. We had a super day.

Tuesday 6-12 Back to The Dentist

We started the day by going to the dentist. I had written that the dentist who initially placed Larry's implant had died, he was the owner of the practice and the only dentist on staff. His wife put the practice up for sale and kept it open by bringing in temporary dentists. When the implant failed we were not sure what would happen but one of the dentists she brought in was trained on implants and was able to remove the failed implant. The practice has now been taken over by, Dr. Fairbanks. Larry met him for the first time this morning. He does implants,lumineers, veneers, Orthodontics and crowns. He is a quiet guy and took his time putting in the new implant. He used a smaller implant and it appeared to line up a bit better. Hopefully this time it will work. Larry has to go back in two weeks to get stitches removed and then he has to wait until October for the crown to be put on. When Dr. Fairbanks took over the practice he kept the same staff. So far it looks like he's going to stand by the other implant and not charge us a second time.

On the way home for the dentist we stopped by the UPS Store and picked up a package and our mail. Then we went to Walmart and picked up the fertilizer we ordered last week.

The rest of the day I worked on my puzzle and Larry read.

In the evening we watched the third Star Trek movie Star Trek Beyond. I worked out with Just Dance for a half hour. We had a very relaxing evening.

Monday Two Days of Having Fun

Sunday 6-10 Monthly DBD Dance

Today was the day of Jimmy Johnson's monthly DBD dance in Briarcliff, which is about 110 miles from our house. Before leaving I baked Hershey Reese's Peanut Butter Cup Bars for dessert. There were exactly enough people for two squares. We danced two two hour sessions and an hour in between for dinner. Jimmy did a super job of calling the dance and we had a great time. 

After the dance we didn't go home because we were invited to spend the night with Sharon and Gary in Marble Falls. On Thursday in Sun City we had talked with them about flying an Air Chair, they hadn't seen one before and wanted to play with one. Marble Falls was about a half hour away from Briarcliff. 

We got there about 7:30. They have a beautiful home on lake front property. We spent the evening touring their neighborhood and visiting.   

Monday 6-11 Hanging Out with Friends

We woke up to a beautiful day. Sharon made a huge breakfast, we usually just have a bowl of oatmeal but today we had scrambled eggs, bacon, hash browns and tortillas. It was delicious. 

After breakfast Sharon and Gary took us to town and Sharon gave us tour of the Marble Falls Museum. We learned about the history of Marble Falls. Years ago there were actually falls but the lake has covered them up. After our tour they drove us around town and talked about the buildings that were standing from the 1800's and built using Marble Falls Pink granite. 

When we got back to the house we launched their boat and went for a drive around the lake.They pointed out different things on the history of the lake and city. We had a very pleasant ride. 

At 2:00 7 more friends showed up for a barbecue and to have fun at the lake. Gary barbecued hamburgers and corn on the cob and the ladies brought side dishes. After lunch we all went for a swim then we loaded into the boat and went for a ride. During the ride Larry and I flew the Air Chair. Then Gary took the boat into a cove and we all went in for a dip.

When we got back to the house it was about 5:00. We changed clothes and danced "A" for two hours. We had enough people for one square and an extra couple. We had a great time dancing with friends.

After the dance we thanked Sharon and Gary for their hospitality and said good-bye to everyone.

By the time we got home we were tried. We relaxed for a bit before calling it a night. We had a outstanding day with friends.   

Saturday 6-9 Visiting Louise

We started the day out going to Round Rock to visit Louise and Alice.

Last year we bought a couple of Amazon Alexa's and we love them. Larry has added many Alexa enabled light switches so that Alexa can turn the lights and ceiling fans on and off. Amazon is constantly updating Alexa with new commands. Alexa turns the TV on and off, changes the channels and turns the volume up and down. Larry has been wanting three-way switches, they came out a few months ago and he has waited to see how they work. The three-way switches are expensive but they come with two switches so it wasn't that bad. The instructions said you need both switches in order for them to work with the Alexa, however some reviewers said you really only needed one which allowed you to use the second switch somewhere else. He ordered a set of switches and they came in the other day. He installed one switch and discovered our three way switch worked fine. We don't really need the other switch and Louise has been wanting one for her living room.

This morning we went to Round Rock to install the three-way switch and another switch. Years ago Larry had installed a light in Louise's garage to give her light when she was in the garage. When she forgets to turn off the light it messes up her television signal and she has get up to turn it off. He installed one switch for the garage light and the three-way switch for her ceiling fan light fixture and programmed Alexa to turn the lights on and off. Louise is a happy woman. She treated us to lunch. We didn't have to go anywhere because she had bought a pepperoni pizza and 5-cheese bread from Papa Murphy's. This was the first time we tried the bread and it was delicious. Of course I played with her dog Alice. We had a very nice visit.

In the evening we watched the second Star Trek: Into Darkness. I worked on my puzzle. We had a super day.       

Friday 6-8 Just Another Day

We had another wonderful day. We didn't do much, we did go to town to do our weekly grocery shopping at HEB and then we stopped by the UPS Store and picked up our mail.

The rest of the day Larry read and I worked on my puzzle and annual book. In the evening we watched the Star Trek movie. We have watched it a few other time but we still enjoy watching it again. We had another relaxing day.

Thursday 6-7 A Windy Day

It was a windy day. I worked on my puzzle and Larry read.

In the evening Larry and Patricia came by to ride with us to Sun City to dance with the Sundancers. We had enough people for two squares and two extra couples. We danced to tapes and they had the recordings sped up. This made it challenging and when you make a mistake you don't have time to think about it because you will fall behind. We had a super time dancing with friends.

We were back at the house at 9:00 and I watched my weekly shows on KLRU. The shows were Midsomer Murders and Father Brown. We had a very quite day. LIFE IS GOOD!!!!!
