Haviland Lake Campground
We spent two nights at Haviland Lake Campground in the San Juan Forest about twenty miles from Durango. It was a beautiful campground with tall pines. Our site had a creek running through it with a walkover from where the Minnie was parked and the rest of the site. Once we were settled in Flo soaked her feet in the creek. Haviland Lake is very popular with the locals for fishing because it is stocked with fish and open year round. During our stay Larry and I hiked the trails, walked Flo to the lake to swim and relaxed in our chairs. The hike was about two hours and went through the forest and climbed up and down the hills. The trails were well maintained and used by hikers, trail runners and horse riders and dogs are allowed. We hiked the Wagon Trail which started at the day area and went to Chris Park the group area and we hiked the Miners Track Trail back. While hiking the Miners Track we saw an old mine and walked over a creek a few times via a bridge or rocks. We stopped a few times to rest and enjoy the forest. We heard birds, frogs, squirrels and chipmunks and we saw a pretty waterfall. The hike was very nice and challenging when climbing up hill. We had fun at Haviland Lake.
