6-6 Happy Monday

Happy Monday

What a beautiful day!! We woke up to sunshine. Larry decided to do some yard maintenance before it got hot. He started off by fertilizing the yard with weed and feed, the instructions indicated it was best to do this while the grass was damp so he ran the sprinklers for a couple of minutes before he treated. Next he sprayed the weeds in the gravel that goes around the house and then he treated the yard for bugs. While he was doing this I was sleeping. When I woke up I made breakfast for Larry and me. After breakfast we loaded Flo into the car and went to The Car Wash Barn. We have had so much rain that we couldn't give the car a bath and it's was terribly filthy so off to The Car Wash Barn. If you get there before 10:00 you save two dollars on any wash you wanted. After giving the car a bath we went home. We hung around the house all day relaxing. Larry and I read. I worked out for an hour on my WII Fit. In the evening we met up with Louis and Belinda to drive with them to our Monday night A lessons. We were short one man to make two squares. Dale Smith was the teacher and he tried to teach and call at the same time as he filled in for the missing man. It didn't work out for him so he worked with one square at a time. Larry and I did each session but we didn't mind considering we had a chance to practice the moves. We were introduced to three moves. It was a very nice day.

6-5 Outstanding Day of DBD Square Dancing

DBD Square Dancing

Wow, what an outstanding day, first thing we did this morning was have breakfast. Then I put a couple of coolers together to take with us to a day of DBD square dancing at Briarcliff. Briarcliff is about 120 miles away, it is a small community located by Spicewood, Texas. The last time we went to the all day DBD square dancing in Briarcliff we took the Minnie and Flo but this time we decided not to take the Minnie so Flo had to stay at home. The DBD event started at 2:00 and didn't get over until 7:00. We had enough people for three squares. They had two sessions of dancing 2:00-4:00 and 5:00-7:00. The squares are organized via a computer so you get in whatever square the computer puts you in, for better or worse this forces everyone to dance almost every tip. In between the sessions we had an hour dinner break. The last time we had a pot luck but this time you brought your own dinner. We brought stuff for sandwiches, this worked out great. We had an outstanding day of DBD square dancing.

When we got home Flo was very excited to see us. I let her out to do her business and I gave her a snack. Before going to bed we watched some YouTube videos about RV living. I read a little before I went to bed. LIFE IS GOOD!!!!! 

6-4 A Day of Rest and Relaxation

Relaxing Day

We didn't have anything to do in town and it was going to rain so we hung around the house. Larry and I read most of the day. In the afternoon I took Flo for a walk around the block. It was humid but it wasn't hot. I wore her out, she had to rest three homes away from the house. Our neighbors drainage ditch had water in it so she walked in it and drank some water. I told her not to drink too much considering it had a film on the top. She was so tired she refused to go the rest of the way home. She stood in the water and then she laid down in it. While I was waiting for her to finish her rest a neighbor came by with a truck and asked if we needed a ride home. I told him it was ok we were almost home, I thanked him for his concern. Flo got up as soon as he stopped so when he left we continued our walk home. She is exhausted and I feel guilty for walking her too far.  I worked on my jig saw puzzle. We watched the weekly GizWiz show, Chad and Dick talk about different electronic devices. We watched YouTube videos about RV'ing, some were interesting and some were funny. Some of the videos had been viewed by 10's of thousands of folks, others by less than 20. Can you believe some people live full time in vans? Not only that but some of these RV/Van folks are in Canada where the winters are brutal. There are videos on YouTube for anything you can think of, some of the videos are really good and some are not. Want to know how to fix something, there is probably a YouTube video on it. In the evening we watched the second episode of Endeavour second season. We had a very relaxing day.

6-3 Why was Flo disappointed?

Disappointed

We woke up to overcast skies but no rain. On Sunday we're going to a DBD square dance and we have to bring our own lunch so we needed a few things from the store. We loaded Flo into the car and went to HEB to pick up what we needed. Before going to HEB we stopped by the library to return Windigo Island, we had picked the book up on Tuesday and both of us finished reading it. Flo hasn't gone swimming since Monday so we drove by Nolan Creek and she got very excited, she really wanted to go swimming but the creek was up and the current was too strong. After leaving Nolan Creek we drove towards the house. All the boat ramps are closed but Lake Belton is still open. We stopped by Miller Creek Park, which is still open. We didn't see a good place for her to swim and there were too many people fishing. We left Miller Creek Park and went down the road to another park. We looked at the road to the ramp and decided that it was to steep for her to walk back up. The last place we stopped was by the marina but the road was flooded. We struck out. That's why Flo was disappointed, she couldn't go swimming.

Reading is fun

While we were hanging around the house I worked on my puzzle and Larry read. We had ordered a book from Paper Pack Swap called Inferno written by Dan Brown. Today we received it in the mail so I started to read the book. 

Square Dancing is fun

In the evening we went to the Killeen Kickers dance called The Pie Dance. The club provided pies for refreshments with tea, water and coffee. They had Dutch apple, apple crumb, buttermilk and cherry. There was whipped cream and ice cream, which went very fast. They had five squares and in between the square dancing tips there were line dancing. Dan Clairmont is the Killeen Kickers new caller called the dance and Christina cued the line dancing. We danced five tips out of seven. There were two line dances in between tips except for the last two tips which had one. I danced all the line dances except for one when I sat down and ate some pie. We had a very nice night dancing and visiting with friends.

6-2 Another Wet Day

A Wet Day

We woke up to rain and it stayed in all day, occasionally it was just muggy. The Corps reported to the paper that the boat ramps were going to be closed until the end of June. It rained so hard that the creek in our backyard was flowing and you could hear the waterfall going to the lake. The neighbor across the road from us had a mini waterfall. We stayed in the house all day. After taking a day off of assembling my jig saw puzzle and reading a book I was back working on it. Larry started and finished reading Windigo Island.

 The TIPS Club moved their dances from the first and third Sunday of the month to the first and third Thursday, so this evening when the rain subsided we met up with Louis and went to their first Thursday night dance at Allemande Hall. We had just enough dancers for two squares. The third and sixth tips were A tips for dancers who are taking lessons. There was enough for a square and three extra dancers. We did a good job during the A tips. Dale Smith did the calling for the dance. We had a nice time.

6-1 Summer is Close

Getting Ready For Summer

This morning the sun was shining but by the afternoon the clouds rolled in. Summertime starts this month. We have been having a lot of rain and lots of places in Texas are flooding. Lake Belton is overfull, The Corps of Engineers has had the gate open to lower the lake but because of all the flooding south-east of us they had to close the gate and now the lake is going back up. Yesterday they said all of the boat ramps are underwater and had to be closed on both Lake Belton and Stillhouse Hollow. They have even closed most of the campgrounds on both lakes. Not sure when we will be able to put the boat in the lake.

I started reading the last Cork O'Connor book, Windigo Island and Larry moved our back up camera on the truck. While we were eating lunch we received an e-mail from The UPS Store that said we had a package waiting for us, we loaded Flo into the car and went to pick up our package. We were trying to figure our what the package was, it was a belt buckle that he had ordered a couple days ago, he wants to use it with his new beaded belt. He was surprised it was here, it was coming from India and the vendor indicated it could take up to a month to arrive. When we got home I read some more and Larry relaxed.

We decided to take the night off of square dancing, it's suppose to be raining so we watched television. The first show we watched was on our local PBS channel KNCT, it was A Town Hall Meeting with President Obama. The next show was through the ROKU, American Masters: August Wilson - The Ground On Which I Stand. It was a documentary about August Wilson, he was a Tony and Pulitzer winning playwriter. It was very interesting. We then streamed some music videos from YouTube and I read. By the time I went to bed I had finished reading Windigo Island.

5-31 Doing Odds and Ends Before the Rain

To Do List

The weatherman had predicted fog this morning, however, we woke up to overcast skies but no fog. I went to the weather channel and checked out when the rain was going to be here. It looked like it was going to be here about 2:00 or 3:00. Larry and I decided we would mow the yard and then go to town. I mowed and Larry weedeated, blew leaves and grass off the drive and porches, put bleach in the septic system and he did a little trimming on the trees. It took us about two hours, by the time we finished we were tired and it was time for lunch. We rested a little before I made lunch. After lunch we went to town to do a couple of errands. The first stop was the Temple Public Library to return a couple of books, make copies of a rebate for our air springs and they had a book on hold for us. The next stop was The Dollar Store to pick up some bleach for the septic system, each month it uses about two gallons. Then we swung by The Goodwill Store to check to see what they had. Larry wants to get some short sleeve shirts that button. We didn't find any so we went to The Scott and White Hospice Store where we found a couple. After buying the shirts we went home. Flo was recuperating from yesterdays swim so we didn't take her swimming but she still got to go for a ride with us. Since we were going to hang around the house for the rest of the day I did the laundry.

In the evening we watched an episode of American Masters: The Day Carl Sandburg Died. It was a documentary about Carl Sandburg's. He was a writer and poet born Jan 6, 1878 and died Jul 22, 1967. Then we watched an episode of Independence Lens: Knocking, which was about the Jehovah's Witnesses. Both films were good. We had a relaxing evening.
