Weekend get away

Every year in August the Lubbock Area Square and Round Dance Club invites Darryl Lipscomb to call an Advanced Square Dance Weekend. Since Lubbock is 350 miles away along with it being summer and hot we have never attended. Well, this year we decided to attend because the club expanded the schedule to three sessions Friday and three on Saturday. 

We started from the house around 8:30 am and arrived in Lubbock at 3:15 pm. The drive was two lane highways and four lane divided highways. We drove by a lot of farmland and ranches. I was pretty good at staying awake until we got to Abilene and then I started to doze. By the time we got to Lubbock it was 100 degrees, thank goodness for air conditioning. 

Before we checked in the motel we drove around to locate where the Lubbock Area Square Dance and Round Dance Center was. It is a big metal building in a dirt lot with plenty of parking. There was a very nice sign on the main road, which was 120th Street. After finding the hall we went to the motel.

We are staying at the Howard Johnson Inn, it is about 7 miles from the hall. We have stayed here a few times, the first time was years ago when it was brand new. Over the years they have done some maintenance (poorly) and the rooms don't look as nice. They are roomy and very clean. After checking we spent the rest of the day relaxing and reading.
