Contra Dancing |
We woke up to a cold north wind. The car was filthy and needed a bath so we loaded Flo in the car and went to The Car Wash Barn. It's a drive through car wash and if you get there before 10 you get two dollars off your wash. We got the middle wash for $6 and after the wash you can vacuum it for free. On the way home we stopped by Home Depot to dispose of a couple of fluorescent light bulbs. Afterwards we went home and I heated up leftover enchiladas for lunch. After lunch I took Flo for a walk around the neighborhood. While we were walking she said hi to her friend Velcro and met another male dog. She walked for 45 minutes and had a great time even though she's tired now.
Have you ever heard of contra dancing? Well, if you haven't I'll explain what it is. Contra dance is folk dancing similar to square dancing, except instead of a square formation, it is danced in lines of couples, every other couple is up or down the hall. Though out the course of a dance, the couple progress up and down the lines, dancing with each other couple in the line. The dance is led by a caller who teaches the sequence of the dance before the music starts. It's a social dance where you don't have to be a couple you can show up single. The caller calls 6-12 figures, which are repeated as the couples progress up and down the lines. Each time through the dance takes 64 beats. You dance to a live band. We thought contra dancing sounded a lot of fun and Larry found out that there are contra dances on Wednesday nights in Austin. We decided to give it a try. We had a get time.
