2-5 Homeward Bound

Homeward Bound
This morning we woke up about 7:00. Larry isn't feeling 100 percent but he's getting better. He fed Flo and took her for her morning walk. While they were gone I got up and got dressed. We had breakfast and then got the Minnie ready to go home. Before leaving town we had to return the rental car to the Airport. It didn't take too long so we were on the road by 8:15. It took us eight hours to get home. We traveled about 400 miles. Normally we would have driven I35 through San Antonio, Austin and Round Rock but Larry decided to take the Texas 130 Toll Road. The distance is about the same but there is a lot less traffic and stress. The speed limit was 85 but Larry still drove 55 to 60. There was hardly anyone on the toll until we got close to Austin. Larry had checked the toll road pricing on the web and he said it was very confusing, he thought it would cost about $10 dollars but as we were driving we saw pricing signs at some exits and it appeared our RV might be classified as a larger vehicle and it would be costing a lot more money. The beginning part of the toll road with the 85mph speed limit is run by a private company and they had lots of different prices depending on your vehicle type, once you get closer to Austin the road is run by the state and the pricing is simple, you pay for each axle on your vehicle, our RV has two axles just like a car so we pay the same as a car.

Checked our toll tag bill online and we were way off on the price, cost us $30, the private part of the road costs about 3 times as much as the state run part. The next time we want to avoid I35 through Austin we will only use the Toll road to get around Austin and we will do our best to avoid the private part of the toll road. Guess we know why the private part of the road had very little traffic.
