Friday 4-5 Bill Haynes Weekend

Weekend get away

We are going to Schertz, Texas for the weekend. Schertz is located a few miles north of San Antonio. We have never danced there so it's very exciting. The club there invited Bill Haynes to call a C1-C2, A2 Weekend of square dancing. We have danced A2 with Bill multiple times, he is a really good caller.

This morning I packed an overnight bag. Then we loaded everything into the car. After lunch we started our adventure to Schertz. It is 133 miles from the house. We started by driving I35 until we got to the toll road that goes around Austin. We usually don't take the toll road because it can be expensive but today we took it it all the way to Buda, where we got back onto I35. The toll road was a lot less stressful considering we avoid driving through Austin. We arrived at our hotel around 3:00.

It looked like they had remodeled the Super 8, they did an excellent job. The motel is located 12 miles from Schertz but it's right off the interstate. When dinnertime came around we went to Denny's.

Tonight's dance was a two hour C1 session with a half hour C2 Star Tip at the end. We had four squares and an extra couple. There were a few folks we didn't know but we knew most of them. A few folks from home are here (Nancy/Dan, Glen/Char). Bonnie and Paul, from Houston are also here, they were very excited to see that we are dancing C1. Randy Dougherty showed up and hung around all evening. He was on his way back home and was invited to go to Marble Falls. A group of A dancers invited him to call a dance. It was great to see him. Jim didn't hold back and called fast and challenging. We made some mistakes but overall I think we did good. We had a super time dancing with friends and to Jim Haynes.
