It's cold |
I don't think the temperature got to 40 today, along with the cold was misting and wind from the north. It was cold. I guess I shouldn't complain, at least I'm not shoveling snow and the temperatures aren't in the single digits. Thank goodness for heaters.
Today we attended two C1 workshops. Workshops are good because the callers work on calls that are giving people problems and they put you in positions you usually don't dance.
The first one was with Bronc Wise at 9:30 at the Peppermint Palace. He had seven squares and an extra couple. We danced every tip. We were glad that Charlie was feeling better and he was there with his wife Regina. Bronc worked on Regroup, Triple Boxes and Phantom Formation. In both triple boxes and phantoms you work with invisible people which makes it very hard. When you work with triple boxes the center box has it easy because it doesn't work with phantoms. Bronc is a great teacher. There were three couples and an extra woman from our class. Fia made sure that the computer didn't put us in the same square, which was great. We had fun.
We had an hour and a half break for lunch before we went to Pharr South for Darryl's Workshop. When we got out of Bronc's workshop it was cold so we decided to go to Wendy's and have their chili. It seemed like everyone was having chili. We asked the clerk what she thought we wanted, she didn't hesitate and said chili. We both had a bowl of chili and we shared the seasonal fruit cup for dessert.
Darryl's workshop started at 1:00. He was shy one person to make six squares. He worked on Chain Reaction, Finish the Call and the Different Tracks. Once again he put us in different positions with the calls. He made the moves challenging. The three couples from the class were there. He didn't separate the new dancers so when we were put in a square together one of us would go and ask a more experienced couple to switch with us. They were more than happy to do so. We sat out one tip. We were sitting out with Kathy and Scott from the class and the experienced dancers asked if we wanted to dance. We all declined because we wanted to rest. All the dancers are more than happy to let us get the floor time we needed by letting us take their places. We had another good workshop.
In the evening J-Five had Entertainment, this week was Classic By Classic. The group was two men (Gary and Larry) and a woman that sings different classical songs, that are Country, Rock 'n' Roll, R&B and Gospel. Gary played the violin and guitar. Larry did the keyboard and sang. The lady was the main vocalist. The group was very good. There were 40 to 50 people. I had a good time.
