Tuesday 10-9 Gorgeous Day

Gorgeous Day

We had a gorgeous day. The sun was shining and the temperatures were in the high 80s.

Today's drive was about 165 miles. We drove through more Amish communities but only saw a few buggies, one was actually a small wagon with a mother and four kids. We drove by a lot of farm- fields. Some of them were ready to be harvested but the farmers are waiting for the fields to dry out from all the rain. We drove through many small towns, as we were passing through one there was a truck in front of us filled to overflowing with a crop, we finally decided it was small red potatoes. We traveled behind it for a number of miles before it turned into a packing plant. We drove through a lot of road constructions and at times we had to take a detour. One detour went for miles, it seemed like we were never getting back on the highway. We left Indiana and went into Ohio where we continued driving by farmfields. We drove through a couple of towns with a University of Miami campus in them. They were really busy and we had to stop a lot to let the students get across the street.

We arrived at Winton Woods Park around 12:30. It is a big park with hiking trails, campground, golf course, fishing piers, horseback riding, playgrounds and picnic areas. We had to pay a day use fee to enter into the park before we could go to the campground. Larry checked in at the office, he was told that during the week they have a lot of openings but on the weekends during October to the middle of November they are full a year in advance because they have a Halloween Creepy Campout. It's been a tradition for the last 20 years. Each weekend they have hayrides, storytelling, trick-or-treating and contest on the best Jack-O-Lantern and best decorated campsite. The park has 123 campsites, 10 rustic cabins, 8 large cabins, 68 tent sites, laundry with a washer and dryer, playground, bathrooms with showers and a launch area for canoes and kayaks. Some of the sites are by the lake. The park is very pretty.

Once we were setup we relaxed a bit. We both went over to the bathroom and took a shower. When dinnertime came around we barbecued Italian sausage patties. After dinner I walked around the park for about a half hour to get some of my steps but didn't get to my goal, I only did half, 6000 steps.
