Buescher State Park
Today was our last day of camping at Buescher State Park. We had three great days.
The temperature in the morning was 54 degrees with fog and overcast skies. At 2:00 the sun broke through the clouds and it was sunny the rest of the day. The high today was 78 degrees. There was a little breeze now and then so it didn't seem that hot.
I crawled out of bed about 7:30 and made pancakes for breakfast. Then we went on a 5 mile hike. We did the same trail as yesterday but we changed it up. We walked the road until we got to the cancer research center. Then we picked up the Winding Woodland Trail, which was a mile. Next we hiked the trail until it Y's off. Yesterday, we went to the left to the parking lot but today, we went right to Roosevelt's Crossover Trail (.5 mile trail). While hiking the trail we met a gentleman and his dog. They both were very friendly. The gentleman talked with us for about 10 minutes. He would have talked longer but the dog was getting restless. We were hiking Roosevelt's Crossover and met up with him again, he said hi but kept hiking because the dog was pulling him down the trail, she wanted to continue. They live close by. By the time we got to the parking lot and overlook we had done 3 miles. While resting we noticed there was so much humidity in the air it seemed like it was sprinkling. We rested for 10 minutes. Then continued our hike back to the campground. The remainder of the hike was 1 mile down the trail to the research center and 1 mile on the MD Scenic Road, which is the park from Buescher Park to Bastrop Park (11 miles) and the park road. By the time we got back we had been hiking for 2.5 hours. We were tired so we rested.
Fog during our hike
I had forgotten my phone in the Minnie. If I have my phone with me my band uses it's GPS, if not it works via step counting which is not as accurate. My band recorded 4.5 miles instead of the actual 5.. Larry's band has GPS in it so his tracked the entire hike of 5 miles. I like his band because every mile she will verbally tell you how far you went and how fast you hiked. At the end of the hike it will verbalize a summary of your hike, very cool. It also has a hiking mode whereas on mine I have to use walking. My band doesn't verbally tell you anything but it does record it and you can review the results via the built in screen or the phone. The voice feature isn't important but it's cute to hear and know what's going on during your hike. I almost forgot you can also pause the workout while you rest, which makes it more accurate. Below are a couple of pictures of plants we saw while hiking.
Post Oak
Yaupon Holly
In the afternoon I played my games. I did the Daily Challenges of Solitaire Mahjong. The event was Event: Medium Mayhem of 27 games. It took me 1 hour, 20 minutes and 33 seconds, which put me in 6th place in my group. I played Angry Birds Friends and Angry Birds 2.
Reading is relaxing
After dinner I did a 1.5 mile walk around the campground. It took me 40 minutes. I did the same route as yesterday. While walking around I noticed that one of the screened shelters and the cabin there were rented out. At the tent sites four of the sites were occupied. Cozy Circle was only half full. It was a very nice walk.
By the end of the night I had done 17,000 steps.
