Awesome day |
We had an awesome day of having fun.
We started the day off by staining the shelves we have been working on with Ebony stain. It's real close to the shade as the shelves that came in the shelving kit. Larry applied stain with a rag, after letting it sit for a few minutes he wiped the excess off and blended the stain. After letting it dry he flipped it over and stained the other side. Tomorrow we'll install the shelves.

After staining the shelves we decided to do something different. Lampasas has a swimming pool called Hancock Springs, it is a free-flowing spring-fed pool. It is a cool 68 degrees all year. It is fed by Sulfur Creek so it has sulfur in the water. It has been a famous tourist attraction, convention and encampment in the late 19th century. In 1911 Dan Culver excavated a large open-air pool in the Hancock Park. Charles Baker and L.N. Little bought the property in 1929 and the stone from the Baptist Encampment dining hall was used to build the Hostess House south of the pool. It is a two store building with a recreation hall and changing rooms for the pool and an open-air dance platform. On the second floor the local bands would perform. The City of Lampasas bought the house during World War II and leased it out to the U.S. Government for recreation for the soldiers that were at Fort Hood. In the 1990's the city leased the building to Oran Milo Roberts Charter of the Daughters of the Republic. They raised money and restored the building. It is still used today for recreation purposes.

On the way to Lampasas were stopped at Fuddruckers to have lunch. The pool is open 12 to 7 Thursday, Friday and Saturday and on Sunday 1 to 6. Admission is $3.50 for adults and for children and seniors $2.50. The facility is very nice. It has restrooms to change in. It has a ramp you can walk down to get into the pool. When you first get in it's cold but once you move around you warm up a bit. There are life guards and the staff is very friendly. We were there about an hour and had a great time.

Having fun swimming in the pool |
In the evening we went square dancing in Killeen with the Killeen Kickers. The club has a dance every first and third Friday of each month. There were three squares. Dan Clairmont called the dance and Christina Wiggins cued line dancing in between the tips. We danced every tip and I did the line dancing. The club supplied a lot of food to snack on. We had a nice time dancing with friends and Dan and Christina.
