Welcome sign to Wabamun Lake Park |
Friday 9/8/17
Today we decided to get out of the smoke so we moved east. We drove about 200 miles to Wabamun Lake Provincial Park. We decided we would stay there a couple of nights.
As
we were leaving Jasper National Park we saw elk grazing
along side of the road. The smoke seemed to be thicker today you
couldn’t see any of the mountains. We did see the river flowing. We
drove on a four lane highway to Wabamun Park. The drive was mainly
plains. It was a relaxing drive and I napped a little. We stopped to
fill up the Minnie in Edson. We saw a Tim Hortons and bought a couple
of doughnuts and 10 doughnut holes, which were called Tim Bits.
We
arrived at Wabamun Lake Park at 12:30 and checked in. The electric
sites were almost full but we didn’t need any power so we were
assigned a non-power sites. The office people were very friendly and
helpful. The park does have showers but they are coin operated. The
road to the loops was paved but the loops are dirt. The sites were
smaller than the National Parks but very nice. Each site has a fire
ring , picnic table and a lot of trees. Each loop has volt toilets
and shared water.
Once
we were settled in I made soup for lunch. We spent the afternoon
relaxing in the Minnie. When it was time for dinner I heated up some
pull pork and we had a couple of wraps with it.
Camping at Wabamun Lake Park |
After
dinner Larry and I went for a walk around the campground to see if we
could get to the lake. We walked a trail through trees. It was a nice
trail the only thing you have to watch out for are the roots of the
trees in the trail. We got to the end of the trail and it ended in a
lake front housing community. A couple from Canada was also there and
we visited with them. They didn’t know how to get to the lake
either. We walked around the neighborhood and saw some nice houses.
When we got to the end of the road we turned around and went back to
the campground. We walked for about an hour. It was a nice walk. I walked around the loop for fifteen minutes. Then we
spent the rest of the night in the Minnie. LIFE IS GOOD!!!!
The trail we walked |
Saturday 9/9/17
During
the night the rain came in so in the morning we woke to overcast skies and
everything was wet. We couldn’t hike the little trail by the lake
or do anything so we stayed around the Minnie and read. It rained a few
times during the day so we didn’t even walk around the campground
until after dinner. We walked for about thirty minutes. We got
back and we sat in our chairs and enjoyed the campsite until the bugs
started to pester us. We bagged the chairs and went inside for the
rest of the night. We had a very relaxing day.
