9-12 & 9-13 Good-bye Alberta Hello Saskatchewan

Don't forget to have fun

Tuesday 9-12-2017

What a fabulous day we had!!! We finished a week in Alberta Canada and entered into Saskatchewan Canada. We have been on the road for three weeks and have traveled 3246 miles and we're still having fun.

After spending a couple of nights at Elk Island National Park we decided to move on. We had planned to travel 401 km (249 miles) to a Provincial Park but ended up stopping at David Laird Campground in Battleford Saskatchewan.

On the way we stopped in a couple small towns to do a little site seeing. As we were driving to the first town we saw a herd of bison on the edge of the road. The first town was Mundare to check out the largest sausage in the world. It is 42 feet high and represents the Ukrainian sausage that is processed there. The next town was Vegreville where we stopped at Elk Park to see the worlds second largest Pysanka Egg. It is 31 feet long, weighs 5,512 pounds and is three and a half stories high. It's made on an aluminum frame. It represents the Ukrainian Easter egg. The egg rotates around and is very beautiful.

After leaving Vegreville we continued our adventure down the road. We saw a lot of farmfields and ponds with ducks swimming. We saw Canadian geese flying overhead and laying in the field of wheat. We saw a lot of old combines sitting in the fields. A few of the fields were being cut but most of them weren't. While we were driving I took a nap until the GPS scared me by saying something.

As we were crossing the border from Alberta to Saskatchewan there were some pillars to identify the border. We stopped at the Visitor Center to get information but it was closed for the season. Larry programmed the GPS for Battleford and we continued our adventure. When we got to Battleford we stopped at their visitor Center where Larry picked up information about Battleford and Saskatchewan..

It was after 2:00 and Larry was getting tired so we stopped for the day in North Battleford. Larry had read there was a casino in town called Gold Eagle. It is a small casino and has a small parking lot. When we got there we couldn't find a place to park but we saw a RV parked in the back in a dirt parking lot so we parked the Minnie and discussed if we were going to stay there for the night, we decided due to the dust from people driving through the parking lot we would stay someplace else.

Larry and I walked over to the casino to check it out. It didn't take long considering it was small. It has a smoking area where the smokers are in a glassed in room separated from the non-smokers, very nice. Larry walked next door and walked around the Canadian Tires Store to check it out considering he had never been in one. He said it was huge and didn't just sell tires. Then he walked back to the Minnie and read while I gambled for a couple of hours. I didn't do bad, I started out gambling $20.00 Canadian and ended up with $25.00 Canadian. At one point I was up $13.00 dollars. I had fun at the casino.

The rain was was suppose to come in during the night and we decided we would like power because the temperature was going to be in the 30's. Larry found a municipal RV Park called David Laird Campground, which was a couple of blocks away. .

David Laird Campground is a nice size RV Park with bathhouses, showers, playground and a field to play in or walk your dogs in. The sites are full hook-ups, service (electric) or non service. We went with a site with just power. The internet was setup weird. The dish for it was setup on the bathhouse and where we were parked you couldn't get to it unless you went to the bathhouse. But once you were connected you could stay connected even when you went back to the site. Larry tried to get connected to the internet at our site it didn't work so he went to the bathhouse. He got connected but when he got back to the Minnie the connection was lost. He worked on getting back on the internet for awhile, then he got a connected. The only reason he got a connection was because he had built an antenna years ago.

Once we were setup I made dinner. Then I walked around the park for a half hour. We had a super day.

The rain came in during the night and was still raining in the morning so we decided to stay put for another night. We stayed inside the Minnie most of the day. At lunchtime we went outside and barbecued hamburgers. Later on in the afternoon we went over to the bathhouse and took a shower. After dinner I walked around for a half hour. We spent the day reading and keeping warm. It rained a little through out the day. We had a very relaxing day.
