After spending two night at Lake Chicot State Park we moved on to a Corps of Engineer Park called Pendleton Bend Park, still in Arkansas. On the way there we stopped in McGehee to visit a Japanese-American Internment Museum. The museum is in an old railroad depot. We arrived at the museum a few minutes before it opened so we walked around the area. We walked through a small rose garden and a city park. In the city park there was a Veterans Memorial, a Japanese Water Garden, and a Human Sundial. The Human Sundial was very cool, you stand on the current month and your shadow indicates the time (add an hour for daylight saving time). We tried it and it really works. The Japanese Water Garden was dedicated to the Japanese-Americans who were relocated to Rohwer/Jerome during World War II. By the time we finished walking around the museum was open.

The Japanese-American Interment Museum was very nice. You can watch two movies (a twenty minutes one and an hour one). We decided on the twenty minutes one. As we walked around we learned how the Japanese-Americans were treated during World War II. Over 17,000 Japanese-American were relocated to Rohwer and Jerome. After World War II only one of the families stayed in Arkansas. The lady that was managing the museum was very nice.

After touring the museum we continued on to Pendleton Bend Park. We arrived at around lunchtime. We stopped to check in but there was no one attending the gate so you self-register. There cost was a little confusing considering there were three different prices ($18.00 for premium sites, $16.00 for 30 amps and $19.00 for 50 amp). We drove around to look at the sites. The sites that were looking over the Arkansas River and with a P on the site were premium. The sites that have a triangle on them were sites that can be reserved. All the sites were good sites but when we drove in the C loop it had a great view of the river and Larry fell in love with them so we decided to stay there. We found one that had shade so we set up the Minnie and then I made lunch. After lunch Larry and I walked over and paid for the night. When we got back I put out the chairs. We spent the rest of the afternoon enjoying the site. When we were coming in we saw a tug boat pushing a barge down the river and we thought we would be able to watch others but no more came by. Larry and I read all afternoon. While we were reading families showed up for the weekend. When it was time for dinner Larry barbecued hamburgers. After dinner we went back outside considering it was too pretty to stay inside. I walked around the park for an hour. Pendleton Bend Park is a beautiful Corps of Engineer Park.
