Tuesday 4-4 A Driving Day

drive (2)

A few days ago when we were talking to the two ladies that had a Minnie like ours and she asked if we had problems burning the bottom of food we baked in the oven, yes we do, she said the solution was to get a pizza stone and put it in the oven above the burner that way the temperature is more evenly distributed. You keep the stone in the oven the whole time you’re baking. Before getting on the road we went into Walmart and bought a pizza stone.

Todays destination was Paducah Kentucky but we weren’t in any hurry so we took our time. We started out on the Great River Road and crossed over the Mississippi river a couple of times. When we were leaving Tennessee we saw a cool bridge that went over the river so we took the road towards the bridge which took us into Missouri. We didn’t plan on gong to Missouri so we turned around and crossed the Mississippi river back into Tennessee.

We moved on to Kentucky where we drove by a lot of farmland and fields and fields of yellow flowers. As we were driving through some small town we came across one that had a nice mural on a concrete retaining wall that holds back the river during times of flooding, we stopped at the park to check it out. We needed to stretch our legs and Flo needed to go for a walk. After our walk we went back to the Minnie and had lunch.

Paducah was our next stop. Larry had some things he wanted to see in Paducah so we drove around and located them. By the time we arrived it was starting to get warm and Larry was getting tired so we didn’t stay long. We walked around just a bit and decided to return tomorrow.
After leaving Paducah we went across the Ohio River to Illinois. We stopped at the Illinois visitor center to pick up a state map. Then we headed to Metropolis which is the home of Superman. We had to stop by the Superman Museum, Larry had read you couldn’t miss the museum because it has a giant statue of Superman. They were right and of course I needed my picture taken with Superman. We walked through the gift shop, it has a lot of souvenirs and was very nice. We walked around downtown Metropolis where we located a statue of the actress that played Lois Lane in the Superman TV shows. When we got back we drove to the Harrah’s Casino. It was too warm to call it a night in the parking lot so we went to Fort Massac State Park.

Fort Massac State Park is very nice. It has a day area, which is free to use. There is camping but we didn’t really need power and I prefer staying in the casino parking lot where I can walk over to the casino and enjoy myself. We hung out at the park until it cooled off. While there we walked around and the historic Fort Massac site. The park is well maintained and is used by the citizens. People walked their dogs, jogged the trails, walked around the fort, played in the playground and picnicked. It was very peaceful relaxing in the Minnie.
