Wednesday 5-9 RV Maintenance

RV Maintenance

We had a busy day doing maintenance on the Minnie. We have driven about 5000 miles since we last rotated the tires so Larry had made an appointment for this morning at 8:30 with Discount Tires. We arrived at 8:00 and they took care of us right away. The people who work at Discount Tires are not used to working on RVs so everytime we get the tires rotated on the Minnie Larry tries to make sure they do it right. The outer tires can be rotated all around but the back tires are dual tires, the inner tires have extra long valve stems that make it easier to check the air pressure and they can only be rotated from side to side and have to be put back on in the inside. It took about forty-five minutes to get the tires done.

On the way home we stopped by Academy Sports + Outdoors to buy Larry a pair of shoes. Larry found the shoe he has been wearing for years but they didn't have his size in stock. The clerk checked other stores and found a pair in Round Rock but we didn't want to go all the way to Round Rock. The clerk said we could order the shoe and it would be delivered to the house in a few days and the shipping was free, we ordered a pair.

When we got home Larry parked the Minnie on the side of the house to change the engine oil and the transmission fluid. While he changed the oil and oil filter I kept him company. Then I helped putting the old oil in the empty containers and cleaning up. Next was changing out the transmission fluid. Larry has done this before, before we stated he refreshed his memory by reading his notes. I helped by holding the funnel while he poured the fluid in and I told him when to stop when he was removing the fluid. We removed one gallon of fluid at a time and then added one gallon of fresh oil back in. It took five gallons to flush the transmission. Afterwards we put the old oil in the empty gallon containers. Then we cleaned the bucket and funnel before putting them away. It took about and hour to do the entire job.

In the afternoon I started a paperback book titled Heretic, it is the third book of a series. I already read the first two books and liked them. It is a historic series that took place in 1347 about wars between the French and the English for power and control.

Reading is fun

We were on the road for over six weeks and we didn't do any Advanced square dancing during that time so we refreshed our memory of the moves by using a program called Taminations. We had a relaxing evening.
