2-10 Political E-Mail

Do friends of yours ever send you e-mail that contains political messages? You know, the ones that are probably false and want you to believe that someone is a bad person or might belong to a different religious group. Normally these e-mails are spreading false rumors so you will not support or vote for a specific candidate. Most people who send these out did not originate them, they received it from someone else and forwarded it to you and their other friends. I am sure you have never done something like this, you haven't have you?  If you know or believe the message to be false what should you do? Should you simply delete it and move on? Should you reply back to the sender saying look you gullible imbecile please don't forward these types of things to me in the future and oh by the way I hope to never hear from you again? Or should you take the time to verify the e-mail is truly false and reply back to the sender in a nice manner informing them as such?

A few days ago a friend of ours sent us multiple e-mails of the type I described. Larry looked each of them up on the net and via either Snopes.com or Factcheck.org he discovered they were false. He replied back to our friend with the following "Not sure where folks find these things, from the following this appears to be untrue" and he included a link to the site that indicated they were indeed false, normally the site will even comment on how this is a false chain e-mail that people are forwarding.

Our friend replied back that they should have checked this out better before they forwarded it, is that what will happen in the future or will they simply not forward things of this nature to us?

We have had friends in the past who knew these things were untrue and still insisted on sending them, explaining to them that they were not true did not change their ways, the only alternative was to simply delete any political e-mail they sent. How do you handle these?
