Sunday 9-9 Boulder Lake Campground

Camping at Boulder Lake Campground

We had a super three nights at Boot Lake Campground and now it’s time to move on.

The morning temperatures have been in the 50s, we have been sleeping without heat but this morning I decided to turn on the furnace to get the chill out of the air.

After breakfast we walked around the campground and down to Boot Lake. The lake was so clear you could see fish swimming on the ramp. Steam was rising up off the lake because the air temperature was cooler than the lake.

Our next destination was  Boulder Lake Campground, about 15 miles away. A few miles down the road we stopped at the Fire Department and parked for a bit. We have been without internet and cell service for the past three days and we needed to get a bit of information. While sitting there Larry had a chance to check his e-mail and update my blog. We saw a couple of cranes walking through the farmers field next door. They weren’t scared of us. By the time Larry was finished it was time for lunch so I made sandwiches. Afterwards we were on the road again.

We arrived at Boulder Lake Campground around noon. We were going to get a power site but we decided we didn’t really need power. We drove around the campground and found a site, then we went and paid for the night. We walked around the campground and hiked some of the hiking trail. There is a 2 mile hiking trail that goes around a swamp and through the trees. As we hiked we went up and down hills, under canopies of trees and around the swamp. The trail was very nice but some of the trees need to be trimmed back. By the time we got back to the Minnie we had walked about an hour.

After our hike we went down to the bathhouse and took a shower, this is one of the reasons we came here.

When it was time for dinner Larry barbecued the last of our HEB poppers. After dinner we walked around the campground, down to the beach/boat ramp and down the main road to where we had seen a sign about an old CCC site. The beach and lake are very nice. What’s weird about the lakes in the area is that there are specific times where the entire lake is a no wake zone. At Boot Lake between 4:00 pm and 11:00 am and Boulder Lake between 5:00 pm and 10:00 am. I guess it’s because there are people living around the lake. We had a great walk.
