Saturday 9-15 Site Seeing and Dancing

Awesome Day!!!

We had an awesome day. We started the day out by doing some site seeing. We drove to Downtown Stillwater. It is a quaint little town on the St. Croix River and the birthplace of Minnesota.. The first thing Larry wanted to see was the Lift Bridge, it was the first bridge that crossed over the St. Croix in 1876. The lift bridge was completed in 1931 and is one of the three remaining verticle-lift bridges built in Minnesota and Wisconsin. The good news is that the bridge is being restored, the bad news is due to the work we could not go on the bridge and the lift part was inoperable. Next we walked a few blocks up a hill to Teddy Bear Park, it is a park with Teddy Bears throughout the park. It was a cute park for kids to play in. We picked up a booklet that told us the different sites to see in the downtown area. We saw sculptures and old buildings. Some of the sculptures were made with silverware, very cool. We saw the National Guard Armory which was built in 1922. The Brunswick House, which was built in 1848. The Post Office, which was opened in 1905 and closed in 1967. The Lowell Inn, which was built in 1927 and is a inn and restaurant today. We walked by many more old building. We walked by a candy store with a cute statue of Linus from Peanuts advertising for them. We had a very nice walk around the city. By the time we got back to the Minnie it was starting to get warm and humid.

A bit further north on the St Croix river was the town of Marine on St. Croix, where an art fair was being held. Marine on St. Croix is a very small quaint town, less than 1000 people live there. The art fair was very nice. There were over 100 artists showing their wares. We saw pottery, jewelry, arts and crafts, photography, sculptures, a weavers, soaps and many more. There were a lot of unique items to see. We had fun walking around.

We had a super day and evening of dancing. A workshop was from 1:30 to 4:00. We had three squares. Bill Haynes put us in some weird positions and made it very challenging. The night dance was at 7:30 to 10:00. We again had three squares. Bill continued making the dancing very challenging. The club supplied more snacks. The dancers were very good and we had a great time dancing with them. Bill did an excellent job.
