Thursday 9-14 Travel Day

Restocking Groceries

It wasn't suppose to rain today so we left David Laird Campground and went to Prince Albert National Park. The drive to the park was all farm fields until we got to the city of Prince Albert. As we drove we saw Canadian geese flying and laying in the cut wheat fields. We drove two lane highways. What's nice about Canada highway system is that it bypasses most of the small towns. But if you want to visit the town the highway system gives you a way to it. The highways were rough at a lot of places but it didn't stop me from napping. We drove 170 miles.

When we got to Prince George we stopped at Walmart, can you believe we have been on the road for three weeks and we only needed three items. The next stop was to fill the Minnie with fuel. Then we were back on the road.

We arrived at Prince George National Park at 3:00. We were greeted by a friendly worker at the entrance gate, she gave us information about the park and where the campgrounds were located. The park has a small town called Waskesiu with a few shops and Waskesiu Lake . There are two campgrounds near town. Red Deer Campground has full hookups and Beaver Glen Campground has electric. We decided on Beaver Glen. The lady that worked the gate assigned us a site. We parked the Minnie on the site and hooked it up to power. While doing this we noticed there were a lot of  gnats flying around and pestering us so we walked around the rest of the campground to find another site. A lot of the sites we're not level but we found one we liked and there weren't any bugs. We walked back to the gate, which wasn't far and asked to change our site number. It wasn't a problem. We moved the Minnie to the new site and set it up for three nights.

By the time we were set up it was 3:30 so we relaxed until dinnertime. After dinner we went for a walk around the campground to find the hiking trails. Once we located the trailhead we decided we would walk the trail. Actually there were two trails; Red Deer Trail Blue Loop and Red Deer Trail Yellow Loop. We hiked the blue loop, which was about 3 miles. It took us around Beaver Glen Campground, through a forest and up and down hills. At times you could see Waskesiu Lake. At the beginning of our hike we saw a beautiful Prairie Chicken. It was a very peaceful hike. We had a great day.
